Used to carry full kit anywhere, anytime. Took many years of alternate means and methods to finally try one and it's everything it promises. The material is just what's needed to accommodate a bit extra or a bit less kit without collapsing or being impossible to move about yet doesn't collapse when lifting a twenty pound load by the shoulder strap or internal clip-on strap handle. And it still forms to the body well enough when carried over the shoulder. Truly well designed unlike many many others I've tried over the years. There's seemingly no limit to what can be done with the limited number of pockets which are few but no fewer than necessary, a welcome change from the typical endless lint collectors in so many other products. The clasps aren't as the original but they're serviceable and with the appropriate adjustment to their strap length they're easily operated with one hand with some practice. The top won't fit as tightly as it might otherwise but the hook and loop will keep it as tightly closed as needed even if the clasps' straps aren't pulled tight, that can be done for transport or storage and readily loosened for live work as needed. The sewn-in shoulder strap is a huge plus in that it wraps around the entire bag and given the stout material used it isn't going to fail sooner than the bag itself. Since it runs across the bottom of the bag it acts also as a means of avoiding excess wear on the bag material itself, a clever feature. No worries about skidding it about on rough ground or concrete or brick, etc. All in all a justifiably brilliant and classic design I wish I'd acquired a long time ago.

I am not clear why so many pros like this. I guess I will be the lone dissenter. On the outside it is a beautiful bag with dimensions that are PERFECT! And nice huge pockets.
But:
1) The 4 lens insert is too small for the width of many pro lenses with reversed hoods, any lens with a hood bigger than about 3" (this excludes Canon 70-200L F4, 24-70, 24-105, 24L, 100L, any many other pro medium size lenses). Maybe 1 can be fit, but not 2-4. You can remove the hoods, but then there is no place to put the hoods. If you jam them in there with the hoods on, it will stretch to fit, but you won't be able to get them out, and a 5DII will then be too tight in the camera compartment.

2) With the insert installed, the remaining space is not large enough for a pro body with a lens on (1Dx, D3x). Who carries a bag like this around without a lens mounted. It is certainly not a bag designed for transport (little padding). It must it must be for active use.

3) With the insert installed a 5DII, D700, or cropper will fit with a medium lens (lens pointing down). But there are no dividers to stabilize it or to utilize the space around the lens. And, it is not quite big enough to leave a quick release plate mounted.

4) If you forgo the insert, there is not enough Velcro mounted to place your own divider system. So that means you have to individually encase the lenses for protection. This ruins any fast access to lenses.

5) The "military grade" clasps are horrendous. They are sharp and awkward and time-consuming. They'd be fine for attaching a shoulder strap, but not for frequent access. They are sewed on. And, in my opinion mount backwards with easier clasping action then unclasping action. And while intending to keep caps on lenses in the case, if they fall off accidentally or you are in the process of changing lenses, the metal clasps can damage the lenses.

6) If you don't like the shoulder strap, tough luck, it is sewed on. You could cut it off and mount your own on the D-rings. Really?

7) I don't see any way to use this bag with a larger zoom lens like a 70-200 2.8 or 100-400.

Bag sizing is a highly personal taste. But, I think a good test of a bag in this size class is to get a F2.8 kit, a prime, and and a flash, plus a few accessories (ie 14-24, 24-70, 70-200, 1-2 specialty pro prime (TS-E, 24L, 50L, 85L, 135, etc), and a 5D or D700 camera. This one fails miserably.

The perfect size on the outside. But to carry what? Certainly not a pro camera kit.

Well Built Bag

By JD

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Black):

This is my first Domke bag, replacing another shoulder bag that's showing it's age. The F2 is really well built - definitely going to be rugged and looks to offer protection for two cameras when out in the rain. That's why I bought it - I need something where I can stow two cameras if conditions get nasty. I don't think it's built for transport - that's for a different type of bag, but I'm still experimenting with what I can carry with it. If you're shooting M43, it might be useful for transport, with a little extra padding. My large Nikon DSLR's - not so much.

This bag is exactly what I needed

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Sand):

I wanted a bag to hold two mirrorless cameras with extra lenses and this bag does fit the bill. I plan use use this bag when I travel. Previously, I used two single bags for each camera. The bag is deep and I can hold both two cameras with at least four lens. There are two side pockets and two in the front. There is a large pocket in the back where I have carried my iPad. The build quality is excellent. I have used it primarily for carrying to and from the car to hotel room, so I cannot say how it would be having it on my shoulder all day. The bag is not padded but that does not seem to be a problem as the holders for the lens are padded. It is definitely a class product. I am glad I chose it.

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Sand):

I have 4 camera bodies , 3 A7 bodies , three 50 and 55 mm lenses and the 40mm lense along with the A600 with the 35 F2.8 mounted in this cavernous monster ... Wow. Crazy Good... Going out to shoot the Oyster Run in Anacortes, Wa. I will be loaded .. Only complain is there is no ties , or attachment for a tripod and its sleeve. The bag is outstanding Domke F-2 is sick. If you are shooting APS-C you can get more in the bag .. Insane amounts in it, same shooting Leica equipment max it out baby. The bag rocks with a Utilakilt too , Go North West Kilts and Domke . Love the bag ~

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Olive Drab):

I am an active concert and event photographer. When I need durability and total functionality in a camera bag, I always turn to Domke camera bag systems. The original F-2 Domke bag is just one of several Domke bags I now own. I also have the smaller F-3X and the larger F-1X. When you want to carry like a Pro, then you carry Domke!

Highly accessible camera bag

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Olive Drab):

What's in my bag? Nikon D7100, 70-300mm, 50mm, 10-24mm wide, 18-55mm, SB-700, extra batteries, cleaning kit, and various shooting accessories. Easy access to your gear without having to zip and fuss with velcro. The other two bags I own prior to this one are a Lowepro back pack and sling type bags. Those bags are superior for carrying your gear on a longer walks, however if i'm shooting in outdoors with them I'm having to lay those packs on the ground to fish out my gear. Once I'm done shooting, those packs that were on the ground are going onto my back. Not a problem if all I'm doing is shooting that day, but if I'm expecting to engage in a social setting between shots, it's a hassle to try to stay clean. I looked at messenger bags before this one, but those I found to be a lot higher in price for less room for my gear. If I could improve on this bag, it would be to update two front quick release hooks and add a zippered inner liner to the main compartment for weather & security protection.

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Black):

The F-2 is an old standby. I've gone through at least six in 40 years in photojournalism. The earlier bags (back in the Jim D days) seemed to better hold their color and resist tearing than newer versions, but it remains the most convenient working bag I've ever used for 2-3 lenses and a body.

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Olive Drab):

I have had this bag for a few years and not until recently have I grown to appreciate the simple but yet functional use of this bag. This is not a fit everything you own into type of bag, but put what you need for the days shoot and head out the door. It comfortable, rugged, and easy to access what you need without making a huge ordeal. Switch a lens, clean a lens, or add a filter. Shoot and move kinds of bag that works well for me when shooting landscapes. In my bag I usually carry a 70-200/2.8, 10-20, and a mounted 24-85 on a nikon 7200. Also are multiple grads, polarizer's, remotes, and cleaning gear. I give it a 4 because the insert it comes with is a little outdated for smaller lens sizes. I highly recommend the strap padding in conjunction with this bag, because it can weigh quite a bit loaded up. for the insert i switched out the one from my lowepro sling, fits much better.

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Olive Drab):

This replaced my older bag as I need something just a bit larger but small enough for daily use. It holds my D7100, 50mm prime, 17-50, sb700 flash, 55-200kit, and a handful of small accessories. One pocket holds my batteries and charger, the other is actually empty. Then of course papers, pens, cards, ect. All fits fine. Although, when the body is attached to the large 17-50, it takes a bit of wrestling to get it in/out the bag.
It does its job well being a camera bag.
First complaint, is velcro. I just hate velcro, its not that loud, but still.
Secondly, while waterproof, I wouldn't rely on it in the rain or sand even.

It's a good bag overall, but when it says it can hold 6-10 lenses, apparently that means small lenses only. It doesn't handle my 70-200 very well at all. I'd buy a bigger one if you plan on using any lenses much larger than a 16-35.

This is a great bag and i dont need to reiterate its great features. However, I want to point out two fatal flaws are (a) not weather proof and (b) two front metal latches.

I got caught in the middle of a nasty thunderstorm on location in China a few years ago,and my F2 was soaking wet inside out. As a result the fabric color was coming off. I'd like to suggest Domke use waterproof nylon instead. Secondly, the two metal latches should be plastic so they can't accidentally bumped into gear while changing lenses in a rush. Preferably just one plastic latch in the middle.

Still room for another lens or two. If I ever need a bigger bag, it will be another Domke!

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Black):

I have owned eight DSLR camera bags for last ten years include backpack and shoulder bags, but Domke-F2 is my best camera bag now, because it is mid-sized bag it can carry most of my gear that I need for walk around street photography. I like thick and rugged canvas materials that are superior to any other nylon fabric bags. I would buy different size Domke bags to carry more or less gear in the future.

Comments about F-2 Original Shoulder Bag (Sand):

This bag is built to WORK.

Bought my first one in the late 1970's and, while it certainly has a "been there, done that" look, it's still in use.

Ruggedly constructed. I once put it down at a firemen's muster, and the stream from a loose hose knocked the bag about 30'. The bag got wet, the gear was unharmed.

I keep a hi-vis highway vest in the top flap pocket, which provides some extra padding.

The movable insert is great, allowing me to configure the interior to hold 2 DSLRs with attached lenses, a speedlite, and extra batteries all inside. The outside pockets contain pens, note pads, passes, passport and tickets, remote cables, WIFI adapter, and other sundry items.

Best quality is how "invisible" the bag is, especially when it gets a bit shop-worn. Nothing worse than carrying a bag that screams "expensive cameras inside."

I tend only get about a year out of the strap before it needs to be replaced, but I always have it on my shoulder.

Only area I'd like to see improved are the 2 clasps. They take a little bit too much time to open, a serious matter when seconds count. Fortunately, I can just not clasp them. The bag is deep enough to hold the gear securely. They do CLOSE relly fast though.

                          Highly recommend this bag.
