When my Canon TC-80N3 timer remote suddenly died recently I decided to replace it with this timerless RS-80N3. I did this because in 5 years of heavy professional use I had never once used the timer function of the original, far more expensive, TC-80N3.

Comments have been made in other reviews about the construction of the RS. It's virtually the same as the far more expensive TC-80N3, less the timer. Same durability. The plug locks onto the camera until you tug on the locking collar; it's simple and very effective. Other inexpensive third party remote releases don't have this locking plug. This feature should certainly be one of the main incentives to choose the Canon-made RS-80N3 over similarly priced third party alternatives.

I like this, it is simple & does the job without spending a few hundred dollard for the wireless version. But...They really need to make this cord 5ft long. 2.6 ft does not allow me to set up the camera and place a chair nearby waiting for the right moment. It is difficult to use while waiting because your arm is held at length.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

For years I have been using off brand cable releases because of the cost on this item. The off brands are always falling out of the port or coming loose and not working until I push it back in. I've had two of the off brand ones quit on me as well. I finally took the plunge and spent the money on this one. I should have done it a long time ago! It actually snaps into the port and never falls out. It has been going strong for two weeks and it is a joy to use. I've used it on a week long shoot and another four day shoot without issue. I'm giving it four stars, instead of five, because of the high cost. It should not be that expensive for what it is. Yesterday, I accidentally pinched the cable with my tri-pod legs and shorted it out. I'm going to attempt and splice it back together to see if that works. If not, then I'll have to layout the cash for a replacement. (Sigh)

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

Only issue I have I wish Canon would make a standard one for all EOS cameras, since I had to get a new one when upgrading from the 70D to the 6D. Otherwise it's a great item.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

I'm one that believes in the Canon brand so when seeking out any product that is going to assist me w my Canon 5D Mark iii I only use Canon products to support it. I'm sure there are knock off brands to support my equip but why would I use them if the company I prefer and trust already makes it?

Answer: I don't. #teamcanon

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

Here's the choice. . .I had an $8 remote switch. . .but after a while. . .faulty connection, faulty wiring. . .push the button. . nothing. So then go thru a checklist. .is it the camera?. . .is it the shutter?. ..is it the battery?. . .is it the connection to the camera. . .it was a hassle costing me time and time = money. . .so I paid more for the Canon switch and it works like it should. . .and I love the locking feature so it doesn't pull out from the camera. One headache removed. Worth the money.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

It works as designed. It is after all a cable release. My only complaint is that Canon should consider using the same release with all of their camera bodies.

I use this product to trigger my shutter release so I can be sure not to get any camera movement in my images. This remote switch works flawlessly and I would recommend it to anyone who has a Canon camera with a N3 connection port.

It is the basic remote shutter release. Lightweight, no complicated programs to use. There are programable releases. I just wanted a simple shutter release so that I wouldn't be touching the camera and cause any movement while taking the photo. This does the trick.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

I wanted a remote switch for my Canon 5D Mark III and worked the internet over reviewing options. Some are cheaper than dirt and others with little or more options run on the high side. I finally elected to write B&H to obtain guidance and the remote switch No. RS-80N3 was recommended.(By the way I have visited the B&H operations many times when in NY on business. This has to be the premiere camera and related product enterprise business in the world). I purchased the remote switch with full confidence both B&H and Canon would back me with issues. The switch arrived timely and is doing the job I hoped it would. I did not like the price tag, but know fully well that with Canon you get what you pay for.

Taking bracketed shots means I have to ensure there is no camera movement. This remote helps me do that. It's length of almost 3 feet is a bonus, allowing you to move around the camera and still fire the shutter.
