When my Canon TC-80N3 timer remote suddenly died recently I decided to replace it with this timerless RS-80N3. I did this because in 5 years of heavy professional use I had never once used the timer function of the original, far more expensive, TC-80N3.

Comments have been made in other reviews about the construction of the RS. It's virtually the same as the far more expensive TC-80N3, less the timer. Same durability. The plug locks onto the camera until you tug on the locking collar; it's simple and very effective. Other inexpensive third party remote releases don't have this locking plug. This feature should certainly be one of the main incentives to choose the Canon-made RS-80N3 over similarly priced third party alternatives.

I like this, it is simple & does the job without spending a few hundred dollard for the wireless version. But...They really need to make this cord 5ft long. 2.6 ft does not allow me to set up the camera and place a chair nearby waiting for the right moment. It is difficult to use while waiting because your arm is held at length.

I didn't give a 5-star. Whenever I take a vertical shot with my Canon 5D Mark III, the end is off from the camera by its own weight. So often detached!!!

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

I would recommend this product to a friend. I've been using it with my Cannon 7D and it works exactly as advertised. Exactly what I needed to achieve sharper images especially when shooting at night with long exposure times.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

Works well. You just have to be careful to not accidentally slide it into bulb mode. Once I had the 12 second timer set and accidentally switched this into bulb. Took me a while to figure that one out...sort of like accidentally engaging the "lock" switch on the camera accidentally. You can also use the shutter mirror delay on some cameras to minimize the need for this.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

Yes it's pricey but it does the job. I have a off brand cable and it works fine but it does come out from time to time. Not really that big of a deal, but kind of a hassle. I'm happy with the product.

Smoother, easier to plug into camera. Off brand that I have been using was hard to push in to camera body.

Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

A must for night, landscape, wildlife, ND, close-up, or macro or usage. I have one of these in each of my 4 camera bags. The price is reasonable for its reliability. I've had no problems for years with this item(s).
I use them in Alaska and Iceland for landscape and wildlife and capturing the Northern Lights, at home when photographing the space shuttle closing in on the ISS, ND photographs at the beach. Close-up's of flowers.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

For years I have been using off brand cable releases because of the cost on this item. The off brands are always falling out of the port or coming loose and not working until I push it back in. I've had two of the off brand ones quit on me as well. I finally took the plunge and spent the money on this one. I should have done it a long time ago! It actually snaps into the port and never falls out. It has been going strong for two weeks and it is a joy to use. I've used it on a week long shoot and another four day shoot without issue. I'm giving it four stars, instead of five, because of the high cost. It should not be that expensive for what it is. Yesterday, I accidentally pinched the cable with my tri-pod legs and shorted it out. I'm going to attempt and splice it back together to see if that works. If not, then I'll have to layout the cash for a replacement. (Sigh)

Only issue I have I wish Canon would make a standard one for all EOS cameras, since I had to get a new one when upgrading from the 70D to the 6D. Otherwise it's a great item.

Perfection

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

I'm one that believes in the Canon brand so when seeking out any product that is going to assist me w my Canon 5D Mark iii I only use Canon products to support it. I'm sure there are knock off brands to support my equip but why would I use them if the company I prefer and trust already makes it?

Answer: I don't. #teamcanon

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

Here's the choice. . .I had an $8 remote switch. . .but after a while. . .faulty connection, faulty wiring. . .push the button. . nothing. So then go thru a checklist. .is it the camera?. . .is it the shutter?. ..is it the battery?. . .is it the connection to the camera. . .it was a hassle costing me time and time = money. . .so I paid more for the Canon switch and it works like it should. . .and I love the locking feature so it doesn't pull out from the camera. One headache removed. Worth the money.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:

It works as designed. It is after all a cable release. My only complaint is that Canon should consider using the same release with all of their camera bodies.

It is the basic remote shutter release. Lightweight, no complicated programs to use. There are programable releases. I just wanted a simple shutter release so that I wouldn't be touching the camera and cause any movement while taking the photo. This does the trick.
