I purchased this film to use in a 4x5 pinhole camera. I usually use Kodak Tmax 100 but I wanted to give Ilford a try and FP4+ had good reviews. I found the reciprocity with this film to be far less forgiving than Tmax. My images came out very dark. I was able to lighten them in PS but the negatives aren't contact printable, which was my intention. I've recently tried HP5+ and really like it. FP4+ just didn't work for me and maybe isn't the best choice for pinhole but it's probably great for other applications.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus Black and White Negative Film (4 x 5", 25 Sheets):

This was my first experience with sheet film and using a large format camera. This film produced a beautiful image (only limited by my technique:-). I next want to try a grainier film and will use the 400 ASA and look if I can find Kodak tri-x at a reasonable price.

I would buy this film as a back up to Kodak TriX

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus Black and White Negative Film (4 x 5", 25 Sheets):

I purchased this film for a five day trip to New York City, I plan to shoot 4X5 in and around the city. FP4 is very dependable at ISO 125. It is higher contrast from my normal film TriX which is good for winter light in New York City. Reciprocity failure is very consistent and a good choice for a moderate priced B&W film.

Use this film in 35mm and 120 formats as well. Just love everything about it, quality, price and the contrast and tones it creates on my prints.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus Black and White Negative Film (4 x 5", 25 Sheets):

The Ilford FP4 4x5 seems to be a great all around and versatile film. Good for portrait, landscape and cityscapes. Even though I don't shoot as much film these days, Ilford has become my "go to" film. I have also been using the FP4 for my pinhole photography, which might not work for everyone. Adjusting for the reciprocity failure can produce some very long exposures, which in some cases can be pretty interesting.

To make it short: a classic emulsion of great tonality and accceptable grain in a large format, you cannot go wrong here.

This is my favorite 4x5 sheet film for portraits. It tends to be less sensitive to red, so skin tones are richer and more dynamic. used with a green filter, it's breath taking.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus Black and White Negative Film (4 x 5", 25 Sheets):

I've always preferred Ilford film, and when I stepped it up to 4X5 photography in August, I didn't think twice about which film to buy. The low ISO still gives great detail and clarity, and this delivers even more so as a large format. Trying to focus an 8X10 print is almost impossible because the grains are so fine (which is exactly how I like it). I consistently get the same results, and I've never had a problem with the dynamic range of Ilford's films. The tones are rich and accurate. Absolutely love Ilford products!

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus Black and White Negative Film (4 x 5", 25 Sheets):

Tested my old favorite Ilford FP4 Plus to see if anything changed in the past few years since I last shot film. Processed the 4x5 in Kodak XTOL full strength for 7.5 minutes at 70 F using ISO 64 for the exposure on a cloudy day. The purpose of the test was to compare large format film to digital 37MP full frame exposures with a Nikon D800E. I scanned the processed film into Photoshop using an Epson 4990 Perfection Photo scanner at 3200dpi resolution. Results: Yes, the film is superb for range and detail, but not so much of an advantage that it would get my preference over the digital file. The differences are noticeable between the two modalities, but the digital is a match for film and large format. I will continue to mix the two, however, using the Ilford, since it gives me excellent detail and range, and I am familiar with FP4 Plus after three decades of use.

Perfect for landscapes, the contrast range is spot on!

essentially grainless, i use this film to capture clouds. The amount of gray tones that end up on the final print blows my mind.
