I'd been debating getting a boom for sometime now. I learned the hard way that I had to get one ASAP. I fell in love with it right out of the box. It's super easy to use and setup. I'm not sure why some other people had issues with their lights not staying in the position they wanted them to. My lights didn't budge one inch after setting them in place in at least 4 positions.

While this is a solid piece of gear, it's not perfect. Presently, it's being used to support a hair light (Ultra 600 with barn doors and grid) with a total weight of about 8 lbs. At its present extension of 28", there is no slippage. However, at extension lengths beyond this, there is increasingly more slippage to the point of total slippage at full extension. Although the product description indicates support of up to 15.4 lbs at maximum extension, I don't find this to be accurate. Accordingly, I think this boom functions best with shorter extensions and lighter loads.

Great portable boom

Comments about D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

This boom is perfect for location work. It's not too heavy, not too long (i.e., it packs easily).

Like any boom, it needs a counterweight. I use a Matthews Boa Bag for light heads, or a 15 lb. bag for heads with boxes or heavy reflectors. With a proper counterweight and a sandbag on the stand base, the boom setup is stable and secure.

The extension slides smoothly and easily. The main grip locks nice and tight.

The base socket of the boom fits the standard 5/8" baby pin.

Comments about D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

Seems solid enough. Wish the pivot could be tightened move. You have to use the right counterweight or the arm droops. Still, a decent boom.

Boom'n it out of the park

Comments about D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

Gets the job of hanging a light where I need it. Very sturdy. Matches well with a sturdy stand. Don't try to hang this on some flimsy: It's a weight monster in it's own right. But that's what gets the job done.

Bit heavy but built tough

Comments about D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

Was surprised at how heavy these boom arms are, but I welcome the toughness that goes along with it. Not fun to have to carry though which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Will be using one to mount a Pentax 645Z onto and the others for some of my lighting.

Comments about D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

Nice heavy duty boom. No concerns about shakiness here. I like my boom and hope to never have to call on it to get me out of a tough joint but I know it'll be there if I do.

Very nice piece of equipment. Well designed, good materials.

Comments about D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

I use it on a 11' Impact 40" C Stand with Sliding Leg, works weel. I've attached a 60" Octa softbox with Profoto D1, fully extended, horizontal, with a 10 Lb Impact Counter Weight on the rubber grip and a 15 Lb Impact Saddle Sandbag on the hook, and it didn't complain.
I think i was over the stated weight limit, and I was careful about moving it.
Please balance your boom and remove the weights before unmounting the strobe ;)

    Very stable arm.

Comments about D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

Very nice boom arm. Very stable and easy to use. I think the heaviest thing I have used on it is the D1 with a beauty dish. I also got the Matthews Hollywood Baby Jr. Triple Riser Stand as the stands I had were no stable enough about two weeks later.

A nice piece of gear at a good price. I'm using it to support a Profoto D500 with a Mola Demi beauty dish. The combination does really call for a C stand along with a sandbag as well as counterweight.

Comments about D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

I bought a boom that was not strong enough to hold the strobe I have, and before I tried it out, had someone from B&H tell me what I REALLY needed. Bought this one, install was easy, and it hold my lamp! Love it!

This is my second one. First is still going strong , working perfect. Well made, strong, supports a lot of weight. Really good with a B1 or D1 and beauty dish. Awesome for a hairlight. You can take it on location.
I use them with c-stands. Bagged most times. Just nothing to say except it works.

Good solid piece, Only option for supporting overhead lights off a C-stand. It should be noted that for large lights, there is some slippage, unless a counter-weight is used. I'm using a large softbox, and definitely need a counterweight. Otherwise, with medium to small lights, no counterweight is needed.

Either way, very solid construction, easy to use and wonderful design.
