This is a high quality lens. Auto focus is very fast, accurate and quiet. I have used similar Sigma lenses and have returned them due to inaccurate/slow/loud auto focus. The 22mm side is actually very useful. The colors are vibrant, and details are sharp. You will get some vignetting but that is easily fixed. Buy this lens and you won't regret it. After reading all the great reviews all over the internet about this lens, I took the plunge at the same time as I upgraded my camera body to a 7D. After all the talk about how sharp this lens was, I was very disappointed in how noticeably the sharpness dropped off of my lens outside of the center. Started doing a lot of testing after noticing this, and thought I got a bad copy. So, I sent it back for a new one (big plus to B&H for the painless and cost-free exchange). The new copy is certainly better as you approach the edges than the first copy I got, but still very underwhelming. It's not any better than my EF-S 17-85, and possibly a bit worse. Also, the chromatic aberration (sp?) on this copy is much more noticeable than the first copy... big red/magenta fringes around white objects/lines in my shots.

Perhaps I'm just expecting too much from an ultra-wide and/or the 7D is showing me so much more detail at 100% that I'm noticing the flaws in lenses much more. But, this is nowhere near the same image quality as my 70-200 f4-L series lens on the same body.

It's the worst at both ends of the zoom range, especially when wide open. Gets quite a bit better if you stop down quite a bit and back off from the extreme ends of the zoom range, but then what's the point if you can't use it over it's full range?

Perhaps I need to get it into Canon for calibration before our big trip this summer. I just got the replacement lens yesterday, though, so need to take some more shots with it to decided if I even want to keep it. Not many other options for an ultra-wide lens, though.

Great for National Parks

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

I bought this lens 11 years ago for a 20D.  I took it to Yosemite and I could not have used a better lens.  I took it back to Yosemite in 2016 with a 60D.  The pictures were certainly clearer, but the lens was perfect for this environment.  I know it's really a 16-35mm for the 60D, but I still use it for great wide angle shots.

Another great Canon classic

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

If you do not know how to use the 10-22 lens for astounding landscape captures then I hasten to say you are a picture taker, not a photographer. Count pixels all you want and in the end you'll end up with tack sharp award winning photos. I hear far to many people blaming the lens only because they did a poor job framing the shot or didn't know what camera settings to use. I am a little biased in that landscape photography is the better portion of what pays the bills and it hasn't taken long for this lens to pay for its self.

A Canon secret weapon

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

I use this lens for shooting real estate photos and urban landscapes. It's a real gem. The clarity is fantastic, and there is no distortion even on the widest setting (10mm). I am also going to incorporate this lens into weddings for my next wedding shoot. Shooting a subject up close with a wide setting really exaggerates the space around the subject like the sky and the ground. It creates a very interesting photo.

3.5-4.5 aperture is fine since I shoot real estate photos with a flash, and most everything else is outdoors. There is no image stabilizer on this lens, but that has not caused me any problems. I don't use a tripod very often, so occasionally I will re-shoot a photo if I catch a blur upon reviewing the image via the on-camera display. This lens is definitely worth every penny. The price is great, too!

Owned this lens before and it got dropped and damaged. Cost less to buy a new one then repair. But this is an investment so I went a while without. Amazing pictures, great clarity and light, gorgeous colors. So happy to have it back.

Now this lens is in my standard kit for all portraits and weddings, too. It's very unique and isn't used often for those reasons, which is why I love it! Allows me to get creative!

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

Mostly good lens. Slight barrel distortion. Auto focus is also a bit inaccurate. I have come across an issue where sometimes the auto focus does not work at all for some reason. When you switch the lens to manual focus for the auto focus doesn't accidentally change your focus then switch it back, sometimes it doesn't work. This has happened about 6-7 times over the last few months. The fix is to disconnect the lens, and reattach it to your camera. This could be just my unit though

I bought this in order to take photos of my son's prom group. I'm the one with the best camera and equipment, so they assumed I was pro. (I'm not!) It was the compromise lens in terms of features and price. There was absolutely no problem getting the totally uninteresting (!) photo of the 22 kids standing in a row. However, I noticed that the girl on the end was slightly widened and I did not have the lens all the way out to 10mm (probably more like 12-15mm).

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

I read quite a few reviews of this and other super wide zooms, and the Canon seemed to have more positives.
Am I glad I made the choice.
On my 60d this is great. Autofocus works well and fast and has rarely been off. Manual focus is a little more difficult, especially at the wide end - to be expected.
Minimal fringing, and then only at high magnification and critical inspection. At normal viewing distances it will not be noticed.
I have not noticed *any* barrel or pincushion distortion even in architectural photos at any focal length, and only a very little 'stretching' in corners - and then only at 10mm.
Good technique will take care of the "no IS" issue, and I have been able to usually take good photos down to about 1/10 second or longer in the "tripods not allowed" sections - usually. I would love to have IS, tho.
And watch out for both falling backwards *and forwards* when you overcorrect.
