This is a high quality lens. Auto focus is very fast, accurate and quiet. I have used similar Sigma lenses and have returned them due to inaccurate/slow/loud auto focus. The 22mm side is actually very useful. The colors are vibrant, and details are sharp. You will get some vignetting but that is easily fixed. Buy this lens and you won't regret it. I have had 2 copies of this lens. The first was excellent in its color rendition/quality. The second was so-so in both of these categories. For nearly $900 this thing should be built like a tank, but it is a flimsy joke compared to an L quality lens. I have a 24-70 f/2.8 which is ultra-sharp and built like a tank ... and I got my second 10-22mm along with it ... and the difference in quality/craftsmanship just made me sick. If this was a $500-650 lens, I could see it. But to charge nearly $900 for a lens that is a plasticky-feeling lens next to an "L" level lens is just wrong. The price is NOT B&H's fault, but Canon's. This lens can produce nice images (at least my first copy did), but the build quality is a joke at this price point. If the price was $300 less, it would make sense, but at nearly $900 I would personally just save a few cheese more and just buy a true "L" lens.

A Canon secret weapon

By JTweeder

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

I use this lens for shooting real estate photos and urban landscapes. It's a real gem. The clarity is fantastic, and there is no distortion even on the widest setting (10mm). I am also going to incorporate this lens into weddings for my next wedding shoot. Shooting a subject up close with a wide setting really exaggerates the space around the subject like the sky and the ground. It creates a very interesting photo.

3.5-4.5 aperture is fine since I shoot real estate photos with a flash, and most everything else is outdoors. There is no image stabilizer on this lens, but that has not caused me any problems. I don't use a tripod very often, so occasionally I will re-shoot a photo if I catch a blur upon reviewing the image via the on-camera display. This lens is definitely worth every penny. The price is great, too!

Owned this lens before and it got dropped and damaged. Cost less to buy a new one then repair. But this is an investment so I went a while without. Amazing pictures, great clarity and light, gorgeous colors. So happy to have it back.

I originally bought this lens to use for a specific project for taking indoors pictures of rooms in houses for some friends, but quickly realized its potential for portraiture as well! Now this lens is in my standard kit for all portraits and weddings, too. It's very unique and isn't used often for those reasons, which is why I love it! Allows me to get creative!

Mostly good lens. Slight barrel distortion. Auto focus is also a bit inaccurate. I have come across an issue where sometimes the auto focus does not work at all for some reason. When you switch the lens to manual focus for the auto focus doesn't accidentally change your focus then switch it back, sometimes it doesn't work. This has happened about 6-7 times over the last few months. The fix is to disconnect the lens, and reattach it to your camera. This could be just my unit though

I bought this in order to take photos of my son's prom group. I'm the one with the best camera and equipment, so they assumed I was pro. (I'm not!) It was the compromise lens in terms of features and price. There was absolutely no problem getting the totally uninteresting (!) photo of the 22 kids standing in a row. However, I noticed that the girl on the end was slightly widened and I did not have the lens all the way out to 10mm (probably more like 12-15mm).

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

I read quite a few reviews of this and other super wide zooms, and the Canon seemed to have more positives.
Am I glad I made the choice.
On my 60d this is great. Autofocus works well and fast and has rarely been off. Manual focus is a little more difficult, especially at the wide end - to be expected.
Minimal fringing, and then only at high magnification and critical inspection. At normal viewing distances it will not be noticed.
I have not noticed *any* barrel or pincushion distortion even in architectural photos at any focal length, and only a very little 'stretching' in corners - and then only at 10mm.
Good technique will take care of the "no IS" issue, and I have been able to usually take good photos down to about 1/10 second or longer in the "tripods not allowed" sections - usually. I would love to have IS, tho.
And watch out for both falling backwards *and forwards* when you overcorrect.

As an aspiring photo-enthusiast I did a lot of research on various lenses and came out more confused than when I started. Everyone has an opinion and I do not have that discerning eye regarding color distortion and chromatic issues. I tested my friends Canon 10-22 mm lens and liked the feel and image quality.

I believe you get what you pay for so I pulled the trigger and know this will be a lens I will have for the long haul.

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

It's what I wanted, and more. I was looking for a wide-angle to use that would give my T5i a nice range not possible with the 18-55 kit lens, and the 10-22mm has added another dimension to my wildlife, landscape, and portrait work. I checked other manufacturers, but kept returning to Canon because of the reviews, and my more than 46 year relationship with Canon. Physically, it's the second largest lens in my bag. Canon says it's "light weight", but I would describe it as having a good, well-built-lens weight. It's bright, sharp, and has worked well with the T5i's auto-focus. Images at both ends of the range have been sharp, with good color, and to my old eyes don't have any "issues" that needed correction. Be sure to get a protective filter. There's a lot of glass exposed!

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

This lens is really amazingly wide for not having a full frame dslr. It really does capture the whole scene. A few drawbacks however. One is that it doesn't focus as well as I'd like it to. It also doesn't have image stabilization and even when using a tripod and a remote, I have some issues with shaky pictures. Definitely not a good lens for indoor, low light scenarios. I brought it to dinner the other night hoping to be able to get the whole family standing in front of the fireplace. Would have been much better off with my standard 18-55mm. Oh and the lens is SO wide that when using a flash, it creates this weird semi-circle shadow effect. I do recommend this lens for outdoor landscapes but that's really about it.
