This is a pretty simple product but i makes a lot of difference when composing shots. I am used to having an eyecup on my film SLR and wanted one on my D700. I love this thing. It is very comfortable and shields your eyes from extraneous light It does stick out from the camera body about 3cm; however, on the D700 at least, you can fold the ends of the cup back over themselves towards the camera body, rendering it almost flush with the LCD screen when not in use. This protects the cup from getting damaged or snagging on something when not in use.

As an eyeglass wearer, I hoped this would improve viewfinder use. In fact, this item added a slight additional spacing between my eye and the camera (D3), making corner-to-corner composition almost impossible (requiring extra firm pressure of my eyeglasses against the eyecup). I find the standard rubber eyepiece ring already effectively blocks side light, making this accessory unnecessary. On the plus side, it is of Nikon's typical high quality and it is easy to install (be careful of the viewfinder glass lens; installation actually provided an opportunity to clean the lens' inside surface - something I would not normally think of).

A "Must Have" for me.

By HeavyEd

Comments about Nikon DK-19 Rubber Eyecup:

I have 1 for each of my Nikon's. D700, D800, D810. It truly helps in more ways than one. 1) It keeps my cheek off the monitor. 2) It covers my eye comfortably and limits surrounding light in my view finder. And 3) I have the magnifier (Nikon DK-17m) as well and it fits that like a glove too. But 1 minor downside is that it will fog the glass if your to warm and you completely seal your eye, but I found that if I keep it ever so slightly ajar off the inside bridge of my eye/nose, (I use my right eye to shoot) the fogging won't happen. I suggest giving it a try. There are other options out there, however.........Their much larger, more expensive and more shallow. And with B&H customer service, you cant go wrong.

Fits perfectly on a D500

Comments about Nikon DK-19 Rubber Eyecup:

Fits perfectly on a D500. Installation is "easy" as long as you are careful when installing the rubber eyecup on the glass eyepiece (i.e., finger prints).

Works well when attached

Comments about Nikon DK-19 Rubber Eyecup:

Got the impression that this would fit the adapter so I could use it on my D300. Well it didn't fit so I glued it to the adapter. Works well now and not every thing is perfect.

Does what needs to be done

By Staunton man

Comments about Nikon DK-19 Rubber Eyecup:

The eyecup fits well and is flexible so it is comfortable to use. I wear glasses and find that I still have enough eye-relief to use the eyecup easily. I find that it shields the light, even with glasses on, more than without. I also bought the 1.2X eye piece and if you really want to get into the corners with this, you can roll the eyecup back towards the camera body and easily see all parts of the viewfinder display.

Great but Catches Lint

Pros

  • Durable
  • Easy To Use
  • Reliable

Cons

  • Collects Dust

Best Uses

  • When Working in Bright Light

Comments about Nikon DK-19 Rubber Eyecup:

This is very well made and well designed. If you need a larger eyecup to block out more light, especially if you wear eyeglasses, buy this. Basically, if you've found your way to the description and reviews because you want one, buy one. They are cheap and do what they were designed to perfectly. My only warning is that, honestly, they tend to attract a fair amount of dust, especially if you keep your camera in a bag that has a somewhat fuzzy interior compatible with Velcro dividers. This does not impact the eyecup's functionality though, so it isn't a problem. Another fun fact is that you can sort of flip almost inside out when on the camera so that it does not extend as far out. This is difficult to describe, but you'll understand immediately once you put it on.

cuts glare off rear viewfinder window, but a bit hard to put on until you get the knack of it. Nikon should put in an instructional slip to explain the rile of the metal retaining ring

I'm a photographer on Fineartamerica.com: http://10-michael-scott.pixels.com. I debated over getting this for years! After finally deciding to pick it up I feel silly! This is a must have for anyone who shoots primarily through the viewfinder as I do! It's comfortable and blocks out distractions. If installed correctly (easy instructions included) it works fantastically! Quality product! A+

This was just what my F6 needed. A definite help when shooting outdoors in the bright sunlight and makes for a more comfortable viewing area. Too bad Nikon dose not make this for the D610.

Works Great on my D810 - Watch Video Though

Comments about Nikon DK-19 Rubber Eyecup:

Like the other reviews said, it works great, fits great, feels great, collects lint and should be include with the camera. I struggled a bit changing out the stock piece with the DK-19, as I tried to follow the included instructions. I looked up a video and, although I didn't understand the language the visual was plenty to get me on the right track. [*][*]

Comments about Nikon DK-19 Rubber Eyecup:

I use it to replace the original eyepiece on my D800.
I normally use manual focus lenses so I'm not keen on live view and the original eyepiece doesn't function very well as I wear glasses. Although the viewfinder gets foggy occasionally in outdoor shooting (cold weather), it works just like how it is described "more comfortable ... especially for eyeglass wearers".
(installation was not hard but tricky. one mark down)

Yes, it's just a rubber eyecup but it's so nice to cutout ambient light and distractions. Going back to my old film days... F100, I had this on my old camera and loved it! This should just be on the camera when you buy it. Once on, you'll never go without it.

I thought this was going to be something that sticks out on the camera, but it doesn't really. It makes the viewfinder experience much nicer -- too bad Nikon doesn't just include this with the camera, but it's well worth the money I spent on it.
