Extremely well made and a bargain for hot-light capable (1000 watts maximum) softboxes. This unit was constructed of high grade materials and was very well assembled (sewn), with all seams and structural pole pockets well placed for putting unit up and seemingly very sturdily constructed. Only negatives are that it is heavy - perhaps inevitable considering its sturdiness and steel poles - a little difficult to put together at first, and that the price of its accessories is quite high, somewhat making up for its comparatively low initial price.

Needed to replace a Calumet 40" x 50" slim softbox and thought this would be fairly close in size. The front of this box is only 31" x 40" THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!! I could not get a straight answer from a B&H salesman, so I called Westcott. The man at Westcott was actually very kind, but tried to explain in a round about fashion, that their sizing is more in line with 'industry standards' and compared this to 'effective guide numbers' for flashes. It does say the true size of the box on the Westcott site (deep into the product description, 2 tabs in), but who has time to do all that extra work? I'm a busy shooter and needed a quick replacement. When I buy a 36 " x 48" soft box, that's the size I expect it to be. After much research, the Westcott #4838 36" x 48" shallow box is 35.5" x 48" That's more like it guys. Thanks for the run around and added shipping costs. Buyer beware!!!

Comments about Westcott Pro Signature Softbox (31 x 42"):

I have many Westcott Products and love them for their easy of use and dependability/durability. Its this product works great, however, its not a true 36x48" box. The measurements "actual" are 32" x 43" so not a true representation of what is advertised. So just wanted everyone to be aware of that.

Comments about Westcott Pro Signature Softbox (31 x 42"):

I actually intended to purchase a Photoflex softbox of similar size but found that it had been discontinued.

After I little searching I came across this box and ordered it. I had ordered other Westcott products previously and was always pleased with the quality.

What a great surprise. I always felt that Photoflex was a quality product but this softbox is the hands down winner between those two lines. Very high quality, good light, great size, and easy to set up.

While I haven't tried every softbox made this box has got to be a finalist in the best softbox competition.

Go buy it. You'll enjoy it.

Comments about Westcott Pro Signature Softbox (31 x 42"):

After receiving the softbox and setting it up I was somewhat disappointed. The material and the build quality is excellent but to say it is a 36x48' box is not true. I measured the height and width of it because set up it looked so small. I measured the widest opening of the box height and width even and it is not 36x48. That's what I thought I was paying a premium price for but not on this one. I sent it back for a refund and I will look for a different sized box. I won't specify measurements but someone really rounded them up to come up with this size.

I use this with an ARRI 650 Fresnel and it almost to heavy to hold it upright but it creates beautiful diffused light.

Comments about Westcott Pro Signature Softbox (31 x 42"):

This softbox performs as advertised. Using it with the #3502 speedring for mounting on a Bowens light. Solid construction, however if there's anything that could be improved, it would have to be the carrying bag the softbox comes in with. The metal rods awkwardly fit in the bag, the carrying handle should perhaps had been designed as a shoulder handle. Still 5 stars.

I love the Westcott Spiderlite line. I use it for my on-site studio and while it is a bit of work to set things up, it gives me the quality of light I need. I have 2 Spiderlite 5 (48 x 36" and 36 x 24"), a Spiderlite 3 hair light (36 x 12" with a 40 degree grid), and use Nikon CLS speedlights for accents. The large softbox gives me great depth of light at 7'.

This is my first Westcott soft box, but so far I'm very happy with it. Seems like it is built well, I'm hoping it will last me a long time. I've use Photoflex in the past, and they've been ok, but thought I'd try something different.
It sets up and takes down easily,

I am a professional sport and event photographer. I was introduced to Wescott softboxes by a co-photographer. The quality and construction of the softboxes is superior to many other brands. It is easy to set-up and the steel rods are durable and will last through many shoots. I highly recommend the Wescott Softboxes.[@]
