I just received three of these. The quality is superb and the things are very customizable. Remember, Avenger is now owned by Manfrotto. You can stick any 5/8 pole, rod, whatever through the baby pin side. There are two threads on the baby pin side, which means you can mount a top on the other end too. You just need a set screw you can get at any hardware store. I mount two of these on top of each other using that technique.

I typically prefer MSE Grip equipment, but I got a used Avenger C-Stand on sale and discovered that MSE grip heads have a different manufacturing tolerance and sit at an angle when tightened down on Avenger baby spuds. So I bought this Avenger grip head, combined it with an MSE grip arm, and set it on top of the Avenger C--Stand. Now it all fits together perfectly.

Comments about Avenger D200 2.5" Grip Head:

Very versatile thing to have several of. Easy to use to get your light modifier or whatever postitioned just like you want it. Substantial weight, can be used to repel mutinous models. Avenger's grip products are as good as any and better than most. I have several of these and use them all the time.

It's a beautiful thing. I love the sturdy feel and rubber grip. If you are a pro, you already use Avenger or other grip heads. If you are finding, even as an amateur that you need to mount stuff and have it stay put, use one of these on a C - stand. You will be able to feel it grip securely as you lock it down. Your lights, scrims, flags, mics, monitors cameras, whatever, will stay there. Don't forget sandbags!

I use the head to support flags and/or arms primarily for studio use. They always do the job and I have yet to experience a failure over an approximate 4-year period. The rubber "glove" around the handle is a nice touch!

I use this product in conjunction with my an Avenger D520L 40" Extension Arm. The grip head is a simple piece of equipment; construction is solid, and so far I've had no issues. When used together with the extension arm, a whole new world of lighting setups becomes possible.

First of all Joe McNally and Scott Kelby use Avenger, and they can easily afford the very best. But Avenger is not that pricey. This grip head is sturdy, very well built, heavy, and looks good. Nice big cushioned T handle that easily secures your boom or grip arm. Connects solidly to your stand and has two openings so you can choose which position is best for tightening to your stand. Rock solid and easily worth the price. I also have a cheap plastic version which is going in the trash. Buy this.

Comments about Avenger D200 2.5" Grip Head:

While the construction is first rate, I purchased it to attach a boom arm to my Avenger Stand. Well, there is absolutely no need for it if you order a boom arm which comes with a socket to attach to the top of the stand. In fact, until I found a use for it, and the lovely people at B&H were a bit clueless as to what boom to recommend, never having recommended the Kupo boom which fits into the jaws of this perfectly, I though I had purchased an almost useless product for my purposes.

Comments about Avenger D200 2.5" Grip Head:

I'm a professional sound man and professional photographer using much of the same grip gear in both roles.

I already have Matthews and American Grip heads and stands. I bought Avenger grip heads for the two threaded hole choices for locking to various studs... AND FOR THE WEIGHT specified.

I expected to save nearly a quarter pound from the top of each stand, but Manfrotto's listed spec is wrong. The grip head weighs 1.377 lbs, not 1.21. Specifically, it's 625 grams.

The MSE (Matthews) Grip heads (black ones, chrome may be a gram or two less) weigh 635 grams. So what's the weight savings here? A third of an ounce! 10 grams... or in laymen's terms, nothing.

The MSE Grip heads also have a smart way to fit any stand, by simply flipping the stud side over. Compare the rubber boot and Avenger knob to the wonderfuly ergo knob on the MSE grip head. The MSE knob is a tactile work of art. From fully loose, try to "spin-down" each of these grip heads. The MSE head will spin down with a flick. The Avenger head must be turned like a hose spigot.

The Avenger Grip Head would deserve 5 stars for the weight savings over the competition, IF THAT WAS CORRECT, but the trade-offs, for 10 grams? I appreciate MSE's design choices much more. The rubber boot on the grip doesn't compare to the ergonomic comfort and leverage of the robust grip on the MSE Grip Head.

So, while I wouldn't recommend this grip head to a friend, it's only because I'd tell him or her to get the MSE Grip Head instead, for the same money.
