I purchased this setup after moving to an apartment that has terrible natural light, and coupled with the decreasing light of fall/winter, I was desperate for alternative. The Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light has been a lifesaver for my food blog, and no one knows the difference but me! I do tend to cover the light with a thin, white cloth to help diffuse it a bit, but otherwise it's great!

Great light for food/restaurant/product photography

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

Amazing light! Used this light for a client that's opening a new restaurant. Got it two days before the shoot. Relatively easy assembly.
At the shoot, this light saved the day. Great natural light. Still getting used to it but even my photography partner said the light is fantastic and was beyond worth it. Going to buy a stand to have one on a stand and then buy another light to have on the table to.

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

After debating this light for quite some time I finally decided to purchase it and I only wish I had done so sooner. Prior to my purchase I was concerned by the mixed reviews of saying it's either too bright or too dim, and that it's flimsy. Upon purchasing the light I immediately felt that it was sturdy (it actually took some effort to "bend" the pieces into shape) but still lightweight enough to make it portable and easily adjustable. While taking pictures I could understand what others were saying - this light is bright, so I had to greatly adjust my camera settings in order to not get a washed out picture, but upon adjusting the settings I found my pictures were well lit while still having dimension and vibrant colors. I will say that if you are shooting something that's on the taller side (eg. a cake) you will have to set the light and reflector up in different positions than if you were shooting something flatter (eg. cookies) otherwise the picture will appear dim, but I believe this is typical of all lighting regardless of whether it is superficial or natural daylight. I've found that if all other lights are off while you use this photography light it gives you the best results.

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

Super compact and powerful! I only bought one but pretty sure I'll be buying another to round out my lighting situation. It's on the pricey side, but the compactness and quality of lighting pay for itself. No more tripping over floor stands in a small space! And winter shminter...we can photograph into the evening darkness with this product, esp with a set of two.

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

I was looking for something to supplement, and sometimes substitute for, natural light, for food photography, and this does the job perfectly. I have a small space to work in, and this works well that way -- it can sit on the table, or it can be attached to a lightstand, it's easily moveable and adjustable in terms of position. I was a bit wary of the assembly process. I did not find it too easy, I could have used an extra set of hands -- and I was worried about breaking the lights. But the instructions provided (they're inside the reflector -- I didn't see that at first, and found them on the website) were clear and easy to follow, although requires a bit of strength (it looks flimsy in the pictures, but it definitely is not!). It provides more light than I expected, which is great. There's a lot of light here for the price -- I'm even considering buying a second one. Very happy with this.

    A must for Food Photography

    By Cortybort

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

I absolutely love this light! it casts a great amount of filtered natural-looking light and the board makes it even brighter. You will still get a good amount of shadow in your pictures so if you don't like this, you may want to get a second light. I personally like the depth the shadow gives to the food. Remember to turn off all other light sources to get the best effect!

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

I have been using my new Lowel light for close up food photography for my blog and it has been working great! I helps light my subject without glare and gives it a subtle artistic glow. I am still working on minimizing shadows and wonder if I need another light so I have one on each side.

The set up was extremely easy and I did it in less than 5 minutes. Although it seems a bit awkward since it doesn't sit real sturdy, as long as you are careful not to bump it, it works just fine. Way better than the box light package that I was using prior.

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

I use ego digital imaging light for food photography. After more than a year chasing the light around my house and before a certain time a day, the Lowel changed my life. I can take photos whenever I need to now and they look like they were taken in natural daylight. No kidding. The light was fairly easy to put together. I say fairly because I was a little concerned that I'd break the bendable plastic inside the light as I was setting it up.

The light is bigger than I thought it would be but that's one of the best features. The included light reflector is also a big bonus.

If you're a food photographer, don't hesitate to get this light. It's worth it!

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

I bought this product based on several recommendations from food photographers, and so far my overall experience is just ok.Pros:-Small and compact, takes up little space.-Portable.-Good light temperature.Cons:-Difficult to put together. I was worried I was going to break it when I was assembling it.-Pricey, for the build quality. At $, I was expecting a bit more.-Not enough light. If you're going for a moody look, it will be adequate. I ended up wrapping the reflector that comes in the box with foil to bounce more light. Conclusion:I would recommended this product if you're tight on space and are looking for "adequate" light. Just know that the build quality is a little lacking. I primarily plan on using this as a last resort, when I can't get my shots in during the golden hour.

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

I've had this product for a few weeks now and have been experimenting with my tabletop photography (items and food). It's been excellent so far! The light is quite bright, so I also use a diffuser to soften the shadows in my images. The reflector is extremely helpful. It appears to be flimsy because of what it's made of, but the set-up is easy and the product gets the job done. My only issue with it was that one of the bulbs would not work until I screwed it in to a table lamp and then back into the product. I'm not sure if this a glitch that everyone experiences, but I would recommend screwing the "broken" bulb into an appliance and messing with it before screwing it back into the Ego light. Mine works just fine now.
