I use the polarizer on various Canon lenses for my 5D. I wanted a thin frame, multicoating and front threads. The frame is sturdy and of high quality, what I would expect from Hoya products which I have used for over 40 years. Smooth turning and knurled rim are nice. No cut off problem with any of my lenses.

The only difficulty is in mounting the filter firmly enough on the lens so the whole filter assembly doesn't spin when I am using it.

Yes, it's aluminum. Yes, there are probably better multi-coatings these days. The Pro 1 Digitals are my standard filter.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:

Hoya might make decent filters but their cases are always broken.  So far I have more than 2 dozens of their filters and probably only 3 or 4 cases that are sane.

The cheap plastic that they use doesn’t match at all the filter quality; cases are not broken in shipping as B&H takes a good care for wrapping.

I bet that they come already broken from the manufacturer. That's why every time I buy a Hoya filter I also must buy a B+W plastic case and must keep the original for serial number and warranty.

Very well made filter. Thin, minimizes any vignetting issues. I like the Hoya Pro 1 digital filters, also use the UV filters.

77 mm Hoya CP MC filter

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:

It is the second one I have purchased from B&H, I dropped my camera bag and broke the first one. Like usual (expect not any more or any less) B&H delivery was quick and precise. The filter for that money (it is selling for CD$150 +13% tax in Canada) is great and does the job it is supposed to be. I have always used Hoya, never have any complaint on their product.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:

This is my preferred CPL filter based on the quality of the build, results in the field and price point. This latest purchase of a 77mm filter for my Zeiss Batis 18mm lens is the fifth Hoya Pro1 Digital CPL in my collection.

Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1 MC Filter

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:

While on vacation last month my 8 year old Hoya Pro 1 Circular Polarizer filter would not turn more than 30 degrees. It was extremely stiff and could not be forced more than 30 degrees. Not sure what really happened but it was bad. It failed in The Grand Tetons National Park where you really need a polarizer.

B&H web site is excellent for comparing items. For a filter that I use 2 to 4 times per year I have a problem spending more than $100 on a CP. The Hoya and B+H are excellent filters.

Paid around $55 for the Hoya Pro1 multi coated filter. What I like about the new filter it rotates very smoothly and the front part of the filter that rotates is wider and has a section that is easy to grip to turn the front section of the filter. Far superior to my old Hoya Pro1.

The new filter works great. B&H ordering was easy. Highly recommended, this multi coated filter is so much better than other brands.

Great Value

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:

I was looking for duplicate 77mm circular polarizers for my 17-50 OS and 50-150 OS lenses without reaching deep into my pockets. I was shooting a beach wedding, and I knew shooting in midday was going to be challenging enough, bet adding the glare from the sand and the water was an added bonus. And if the weather went south, then I'd have some front element protection. Also, being on the beach - a public beach - sand would be kicked up in the air, so duplicate filters would keep me from changing filters. Rain or shine I would be prepared. As an added bonus, the filters can be stacked on my 50-150 for a variable ND filter.

Profile could be Slimmer.

By J.K. Putnam

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:

Does its job, no doubt about that. The quality is good, It's had no noticeable effect on image quality. The filter is advertised as having a slim profile, and it does, but not slim enough. When used in conjunction with the Lee 4x filter holder with two sets of guides, and the Canon 16-35 f/4 at a 16mm focal length, you will get slight vignetting in the corners. This of course can be fixed by zooming in just a bit, at around 18 or 19mm. Still, could be slimmer, right?
