As a professional videographer and indie filmmaker, I was interested in the SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand as an affordable alternative to pricier boom stands designed exclusively for video (which can run easily in the $ range; this product was only about $). I was not disappointed. The weighted boom pole is a nice touch, makes for a good balance option when you need it, but not always necessary. The stand alone can hoist the mic at least 7 and a half feet in the air, the boom pole almost doubling that at maximum height, and, when used at an angle, can get the mic 3 to 4 feet above a standing subjects head... plenty of room, in other words. It can also be used for many low-angle positions and breaks down easy and makes for simple storage and transportation. The boom pole, on its own, is handy and can be used hand-held if needed. The cons basically have to do with comparisons to the more expensive stands for video production. Remember, I'm a videographer; unlike a studio musician, I'm concerned with video issues: what's in the frame and what isn't. A high-end Lowel stand will solve all those problems with ease, but will cost you thrice what the SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand costs. I explained the features; with a little creative thinking and strategy, the SB9600 TSBS should be able to accomplish most professional video-sound recording needs; I'd highly suggest using sandbags for extra support... something you'd be advised to do with higher-end stands too. Keep in mind, while sturdy and of good quality, this stand is not as resistant to wear and tear as heavier duty, higher priced stand. So long as it is transported and stored with care, this shouldn't be an issue. In conclusion, the SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand is a reliable boom stand for video and film production, and a very affordable alternative to higher-priced stands.

Comments about On-Stage SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand:

This microphone stand is an excellent value for the price and I would have loved to have been able to make use of it, however it was much too large for setting up intimate interviews in small spaces, which is required for my work. I ended up having to exchange it for a smaller, more compact model. I would highly recommend it though!

Comments about On-Stage SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand:

While making a video recording of a violinist, I was able to get the microphone and the stand high enough and out of the frame of the video camera while still positioning the mic correctly. The stand was pretty sturdy, but the threaded screw on the center boom started to swivel around, but did not fall out. I had to drill a hole through it and put in a screw to hold it in tightly. Otherwise, it is a pretty good stand for what it does and the price.

Comments about On-Stage SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand:

This is a great stand for studio or on-location use. The included counter-weight makes this very usable out the box. I wish the boom arm connected together with a locking ball type connection rather than screwing in. That would make it easier to break it down more for easier travel. If you're trying to fit this in a car or small SUV you'll have to take the boom arm apart. I think a simple travel bag and some adapters should come with it as well. It has a 5/8" thread. So know ahead of time what you're going to mount onto this and be sure you have the proper adapters if you need them. They're super cheap so you'll want to order them with this so you don't pay shipping on a $ adapter.

I'm extremely pleased with this product. Well made and versatile! The counter weight block can be removed completely should you wish, the stand is still very stable without it. I move around a lot with it (film/Video) and essembly is very easy and quick. Great also for interviews and concerts.

This thing surprised me when it arrived, it is without a doubt solid as a rock. Its a bit heavy but breaks down for traveling. It has the perfect reach for an overhead mic for interviews or it can be used to hold a studio condenser for vocals or voice over work etc.
B&H had it the cheapest, like always. You won't be disappointed with this. It is built to take a beating!

Comments about On-Stage SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand:

I use this stand for overhead mic setups in interview video production settings. This is an outstanding boom stand but pretty heavy and doesn't make for easy mobility if your moving from one shoot location to another. Really well made and very sturdy. Best suited for studio setups, it is however, at least for me, worth lugging around to interview shoots that I do since you can position the stand farther away from the subject and the base is out of the way for the most part. If someone bumps into this thing on set it's not going to fall over, which I like.

Comments about On-Stage SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand:

This stand is really helpful at raising the mic really high enough to be out of the frame. The construction of this stand is very strong and sturdy. I just didn't like the horizontal pipe because it WASN'T TELESCOPIC; it is simply an extension arm that screws to the non-removable short arm. It seems to be made to be stationary all the time, for it is bulky to move here and there more often. The base legs cover very large area in my studio I'm sure if you have the space you will be happy with the wide base legs.

Immediately after I pulled the tripod out from the package I realized it is a well built piece made of quality material. It does not feel cheap at all. For instance I purchased some lights from proaim, but the stands feel cheap. This stand is diffferent. . it looks very very professional.

It's extended height is perfect for my application to get above the orchestra. The stand is very sturdy

However, the base of the stand is larger than I had anticipated. More the size of a speaker stand.

                The Bad:

It stores a little tall. I try to keep my things on a cart and it pokes out. It stores 47.5''.

Everything folds down nicely except for the extra arm that it comes with. You have to thread that arm on and off. This isn't ideal because you have to store two separate items instead of the one. It's also an added step for set-up and strikes.

                The Good:

Other than general satisfaction of all that it offers. I was surprised by how lightweight it is for its size. Most of its weight comes from the boom arm's counterweight. I also liked the boom-arm-clips that help hold your cables. They're accept cables easily and hold them securely. And they slide on the boom arm for anchoring placement.

Overall, I'm very pleased, It's a great set-up. I'd buy this item again.

The included counter weight is great for when you have the boom telescoped out to longest position. We have also used the boom stand for lighting when we needed to hang a light over top of people for an interview. We love this boom stand and plan on buying a second one soon when we have the funds to purchase another shotgun mic and stand.

Rush Videos uses the boom stand for commercial interviews & television commercials. Very easy to set up but not instructions are included for a novice user. I was surprised to see a mic holder wasn't included. Also, there isn't a option to add a carrying bad as there isn't a strap included either. Overall we'd purchase it again as it does fit our needs.

Comments about On-Stage SB9600 Tripod Studio Boom Stand:

I'm only a beginner when it comes to studio video recording, and am using it for marketing and business videos. I've been looking all over for a good boom mic stand that would allow me to raise a shotgun condenser microphone overhead and out of shot. This one works perfectly.

This stand is sturdy. It seems like it could handle quite a bit of weight. Of course I didn't swing on it or anything to see what the max was, but it holds my microphone great, and that's all that mattered to me.

                      I would recommend this stand.
