Let me start off by saying that this kit is an unbeatable value. The options that can come out of this are about endless. If you're an aspiring Strobist on a budget (like me), this kit was put together for you.

Lightstands: 3.5/5
I put a Vivitar 285HV, a Quantum Radio Slave II Receiver, and the umbrella on the lightstands. Thus there's a reasonable amount of weight on there. The stands do the job, but they're not outstanding. When I adjust the power, or switch something on/off, the stand and everything on it will be wobbling for a few seconds afterwards. FULLY extended will be even more wobbly. But they do the job. The air cushioning sure is nice to have for forgetful people like me!

Umbrella Brackets: 4.5/5
Everything about the bracket is extremely sturdy. There's no give or take anywhere with the bracket. The only thing I don't like is that you can't tilt the umbrella itself; thus the umbrella is always pointed straight outwards. You can only adjust the tilt of the flash.

Umbrellas: 3/5
The umbrellas are silvery reflector umbrellas. They don't do a very good job as shoot-through, because they're too diffused. They do a great job as reflector umbrellas, though. The removeable black backing works well. The actual construction of the umbrellas are weak. Very weak. The metal parts holding up the cloth are hollow and very thin metal, so it bends very easily. I already have one bent umbrella; luckily it still works how it should. I also wish the long beam was longer.

If you're on a budget, click "add to cart" right now, because this kit was made for you! If money isn't a factor, another product may suit you better.

This achieves what it advertises with some minor problems. First off, I realize this is not "high end" equipment and is directed at someone looking to save money. With this in mind the Impact kit is good enough. I mount Canon 580EXii flashes on the brackets and bounce the light off the umbrellas triggered wirelessly. Works well enough, but be aware of a few things:

1. The metal piece to mount the flash on will not fit 580's (probably any canon flash for that matter) unless forced-- and could damage the rubber at the base. My solution was to use the plastic mounts included with the the flashes

2. When using them outside with the umbrellas attached witht he slightest wind and they WILL blow over. Sand bags or some kind of weight (5-10lbs) is a must for outdoor use.

3. Every time I screw anything to secure the bracket to the stand, and bracket to the the umbrella-- the screw chews into the metal. I put gaffers tape on the metal thats getting messed. Might make the Impact set last a little longer. Kind of a minor point, but I'm obsessive about keeping things neat and functional, and chewed up metal is not acceptable.

Perfect for its price point!

When raising or lowering the stands you get a bit of awkward resistance (think air pressure rather than friction) but over all works great!

Best you can get for this price

By Esteban

This kit works better than I thought. I bought it because this kit was very cheap but I did not spect the quality that I found, just great. The tripods are stable enough to load the whole system including 3 canon speedlites 600ex. As always you have to be careful in exteriors and windy conditions, any tripod will need sand bags or some other security arrangement. The umbrellas works well spreading the flash of the speedlites but you have to be aware that the light is not in the middle point of the umbrella so it can change the diffusion. About the Shoe Mount brackets they work ok, you have to screw the shoe mount well so you avoid your speedlite turning around itself.

I love these umbrellas. They are really light weight but well built. Easy to raise and lower. The umbrellas seem well built and work well with my flashes. I purchased the carrying case and makes it really convenient for being mobile.

A tremendous Impact lighting kit!

By Keith J.

This kit is my first venture into off camera lighting and is so far a really great buy. I haven't used it as of yet because the other part of my order is still in transit. I have assembled it and it's a breeze to set up. The build quality seems to be really good. One of the reviews I read on it stated that the individual couldn't mount a 5lb. light on it, but this kit was designed for using hot-shoe type flash heads. Anything greater in size/weight is at the users discretion. It's made for small product type shots and head-shoulder portraits. It would work outdoors, although it would require sandbags to keep them from blowing in the wind. The only negatives I would have about them is that the removable backing does not look like it would be very durable, after many repeated uses the mounting holes would eventually tear and need to be replaced. That however is moot because they will be very easy to replace. The other negative is that I am using the Yungyuo 600ex-rt flash with it and the mounting bracket doesn't fit into the cold-shoe mount on the umbrella kit. However, that being said, I have to use the included table top stand that came with the flash in order to mount it and it works just fine. Other than that I would most definitely consider this as an entry level lighting kit.

You get what you pay for

I will use this kit tomorrow for the first time on some inter office portraits shoot. I use Canon 580EX strobes and I will wait to see how well these small umbrellas disperse the light. The stands and umbrellas seem equal in value to what I paid. I will treat them carefully.

Not Bad For The Price

By DesertRatSGU

The stands are fairly light weight but work well with the smaller umbrellas they come with. I only wish the umbrella rod angled slightly more so the flash hit the center of the umbrella rather than the top! I've used this kit on several shoots, so far so good!

Light weight barely describes this.

By Ron B

Not sure others are looking at the same product I received, I ordered it, knowing it was cheap equipment, and, I am keeping it, because it isn't hardly worth the hassle to ship it back.

Pros:
Umbrellas are OK.
Stands are definitely light weight, easy to carry.
Umbrella holder/flash mounts work.
Air cushioning seems to work.

Cons:
I put a 5 lb mono light on one of these stands, and, it visibly bowed under the load. Not sure I would risk a pricey studio strobe, or, even an name-brand speedlight on one of these stands.

IMHO this is strictly an option for the budget-minded, or, student photographer. If you are looking for a complete two-light, stands and umbrella setup on the cheap, this might work for you.

I've only got to use it a few time so far, but seem to be built well! This was a great option to have off camera flash with speeding a ton!

This is a very well made bag I got it for the Digital Flash Umbrella Mount Kit by Impact. It is a little over kill in size and capacity, but I have a lot of room to grow and add new stuff. It is a good investment in keeping your equipment all to gather.

I have used the set 1 time but I must say they are of a high quality. Everything is smooth in regards to repositioning of height and position. Our Christmas cards turned out fantastic thanks to these modifiers. I did not once worry about my expensive flashes falling.
