I have several camera bags, and this is my perennial favorite. I have a couple bigger bags, some smaller "zoom packs", and a backpack. I like this bag for three reasons: First, it's just the right size. Second, "the bag is not fussy". Third, the bag is ugly--i.e. it's not a thief magnet. The bag does not have much padding, which means it's not ideal for transporting equipment. It's designed for carrying gear while you walk. Here are some additional details:

I don't like to carry around more than a camera body with a zoom lens attached, perhaps one other lens, and a flash. This bag holds that with enough room left over for some extra stuff. I can lay my camera on it's back in the bag with my main lens attached, add a second lens in the main compartment, and throw a flash in one of the jumbo side pockets. The camera and everything else can come out in an instant.

This gets to my second point; "the bag is not fussy". I saw this phrase in a review somewhere before I bought this bag. The phrase basically sums up the key strength of all Domke bags. I'm lazy, I don't want to fiddle with zippers, and sift through three dozen specialized mini-pockets. This bag has a large main compartment with minimal padding/protection, two large side pockets, a wide front pocket and a tight pocket in the back that's suitable for books and maps. (The flap has a zippered lining as well.)

A couple years ago, I went to Paris with this bag. It held my camera, photo paraphernalia, a couple water bottles, a wind breaker, a guide book and a map. Anything smaller would not have been large enough, anything larger would have been just too much to haul around all day long, and anything "nice looking" would have made me a target. (I purposely got the sand colored bag (vs the black one) because it looks like it's full of junk rather than expensive camera gear.)

In summary, this is an outstanding bag for hauling around a modest amount of gear. If you need something you can walk around with all day long, this is the answer.

So, I bought this originally to hold my D810. Probably not a wise move due the size of the bag, but I'll say that everything fit well. The D810 w/ 35mm f/2, 28mm f/1.8, hard drive, hoods, etc. I'm a prime carrying guy, no zooms. Anyway, I found myself fighting to get access to this camera, and I think it's because the bag needs a little more "structure" or stiffness. I've found that I don't like the c-clip or velcro. I'd rather have my camera secured by a leather strap and tab-type like the Billingham. Just a personal preference. Anyway, it's awesome that this is made in the USA (f*&k yeah!), but I'll be moving on to a Billingham with some more room and structure to the shape. Also, I've moved to a mirrorless system, which is smaller, but still the floppiness of the bag just gets in my way. To each their own.

Great bag for mirrorless gear

By jefaught

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Briquette):

I've used Dimke bags since 1985, and have owned two F-3X bags, along with two F-2s. I gave the first two F-3X bags away, and just ordered the third. The are well made and last forever. The smaller bag is great for my Fujifilm bodies and lenses. Two bodies with prime lenses, a telephoto zoom, two small flashes, spare batteries and a few small chargers are all I carry these days. All this gear fits and easily stores under a plane seat when I travel.

Thick stiff fabric with lots of protection

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Briquette):

My 30-something year old Domke F6 has so many holes in the corners allowing pens, change, small critters-whatever- to fall out that I had to replace it. Chose this F-3X. Its going to take some getting used to. But if you are in the market for this size bag and understand that the fabric is stiff, waterproof and more bulky-offering more protection- than the plain, thinner F6 that I was used to, this bag has a lot to offer. The strap is way wide from what I am used to. I am going to cut and sew and replace it with the narrower F6 strap. That's personal preference. This is a great bag and it will outlast me, I am sure. Well made and great service, as usual from B&H. See you in 30 years!

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Briquette):

This is the second Domke bag I own. I needed a smaller bag for day and weekend trips. It is just what I needed. It holds my K-30 with a 28 -250 lens and 200mm with plenty of room left over. The bag is well made with strong material and rides on my hip just like it was made for my body. What I like best about it I carried it all day at the zoo and never had to adjust it on my shoulder.

Durable, Waterproof, and Convenient Size

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Black):

I needed something smaller for around town and after owning a Domke F2 for almost 20 years that is still in great condition after years of travel, purchasing another Domke was a no brainer. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so it rains a lot and the F-3X is waterproof. I carry a Fuji GW690iii medium format rangefinder which it's size is formidable, light meter, film, and filters with some room to spare.

The F-3X could carry a DSLR, a couple of lens and flash without any trouble either. This bag is a good around bag that will take the elements and the bums, drops, and rubs of traveling.

Just what you need.

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Black):

Just what you need: no extra unnecessary pockets, zippers, or padding. I use it for one large pro-body, a 85mm f/1.4 lens and 28mm f/1.4 lens plus strobe. Bag is small enough to move through crowds and carry all day long. Well built: this is my third Domke bag - I get about 10 years service out of each bag. I'm an college educated photojournalist, 33 years working full time in the editorial field.

Solid Domke bag

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

A well made Domke bag. F-3X doesn't have moveable compartments, which I knew when buying it; not a problem though need to be aware that it limits options on how to pack. Also, (as to be expected) padding is limited. Good size, especially for my needs-- M4/3 two bodies, a few lens, misc items in pockets. Only concern is the side pockets aren't fully covered by flaps (small gap) and this can't be good for rain (not been in rain with it yet).

Best bag ever

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

This is my all-time favorite bag. It's made of thick heavy canvas, a simple design with just enough compartments. No frills, no excess padding, and one removable velcro divider. You can fit a ton of gear, way more than it seems. The canvas material provides more than enough protection. This bag is slightly smaller than the F-2, which I have in the other Domke material Ruggedwear. The Ruggedwear is more cloth-like and soft, which is nice too. Probably prefer the canvas if I had to choose, but both have benefits. The F-3X is a great shoulder bag to work out of, especially if you just rotate through 2-3 lenses. It's intuitively organized and well made. Domke bags are the best, and this one is the cream of the crop.

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Black):

I've had this bag for like 20 years and well I guess it's time to give it it's due. Like the bag itself, I'll keep it simple: it never ceases to amaze me how much you can cram into it. Padded? Yeah, a little on the bottom. Weatherproof? Not by a long shot... Do I care? Not a bit! OK so if you're one of these OCD types that needs a partition for this, or a form fitted slot for that well, I feel sorry for you. I've used this bag for photo journalist gigs, weddings, vacations, I've considered getting one of the bigger Domke's but honestly, I'll use this till I die.

Awesome, sturdy, quality bag

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

I bought this bag and an F-2 Ruggedwear, the F-2 for longer trips and the F-3X for daily carry. Both are fantastic. Simple elegant design, and extremely sturdy material. Real fabric and minimal plastic / nylon. They are similar in size, though the F-3X is a tad smaller and better for day trips. In the F-3X I fit a Canon 70D with 35mm Sigma attached, a Rhode mic, 18-135mm, 17-55mm, a mini-tripod, and odds and ends like wallet, phone, etc. There's a surprising amount of room, since the bag itself is flexible and not overly padded. The latch takes some getting used to, it's an old fashioned metal clip, but there's velcro too for easy access.

If you're like me, reading reviews looking for insight into the rugged / waxwear vs. canvas, I personally find the ruggedwear wonderful. It does have a slightly oily residue, but that hasn't bothered me, and the equipment is fine. The F3X canvas is much stiffer, like a military bag. I get the sense that it will age well. Both are great, you can't lose – Domke is made in the USA, and made well.

Great Photo Bag

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

I recently purchased the Domke
F-3X Shoulder bag for a 2 week vacation in Europe. The bag easily held my Nikon 7200 with an attached 16 - 85mm lens. Additionally, the bag held a telephoto lens, a book, umbrella and my hat. I'm so glad that I made the decision to buy this bag.

    Perfect bag

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

It holds everything I want it to, and is extremely durable. I have a camera body, a 50mm and a 70-200 zoom, two filter wallets, battery charger and a notebook. It reminds me of military bags of green canvas that I used when I was on active duty. I expect this bag to last for quite awhile.

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Black):

I have other Domke bags but this is my new favorite. Unlike the other bags, it doesn't have movable inside compartments but has 2 lens compartments sewn left and right and your camera goes in the middle. It includes a velcro'd divider should you wish to divide the central area for some reason. Outer pockets can hold lots of stuff including lens or flash. Holds all I need when carrying one body and two or three lenses protected minimally in a classic canvas bag that forms itself to your hip over time. Retro flap clasp is still a pain in the A to open with one hand but it certainly never comes undone. Looks like progress on the clasp issue with their new line of bags and I wish I could retrofit. But all in all, I respect the "take it or leave it" old-style design of this bag.

      Great bag

      By Phototaker

      from Mobile, AL

Comments about F-3X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

Very well constructed camera bag- should last for years. Simple design with the right amount of pockets and space to carry gear on a days outing. Easily holds dslr with two or three lenses from wide angles to short telephoto. Or, leave a lens out and slip in a bottle of water instead. I extend the strap so that the bag can be carried like a sling rather than a shoulder bag. Side and front pockets have plenty of room for extra gadgets and accessories and secure with strong Velcro closures. Only improvement might be some padding on the strap for added comfort, but I'm very satisfied nonetheless and highly recommend it.
