I'm pleasantly impressed with this gadget overall.I've used it several times to secure the camera on rocks and branches when taking some long-exposure dusky sunset pictures. It's strong enough to support my massive 3.5 lb medium format camera without caving. The corollary to that is that the legs require quite a bit of strength to flex into your desired position, but for the sake of safety, I don't mind it at all. It's a very practical tool if you don't want to carry heavy and cumbersome gear for a long time. So it's perfect for travel, nature walks, or any time you just want to casually bring the camera along and want to be prepared on the light. It's very light and compact when folded, and fairly stable. However, a note on stability: you must make sure that it's secured onto whatever you're securing it onto very tightly and without a trace of wobbliness. Otherwise, the camera does shake a little bit when you release the shutter. It's not so much a problem with the product as a consequence of the type of use - you'll mostly be using it on irregular surfaces and unorthodox supports.I haven't used it with a level, but I think that would be my next improvement. It would probably be a little less fiddling and re-fiddling if you could immediately see if the camera is level.

I use these tripods all the time for "special" shots where a normal tripod wont work. It works well in tight places and for low shots, but it is useless when it breaks. The plastic cups that hold each segment are cracking (becoming brittle) and when they crack they become very loose and the tripod leg goes limp and becomes useless.
I contacted Joby via email and got no response which is unfortunate because it is still under warranty. I included a picture so you can see the crack.

Does the job - works as advertised

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I take the gorillapod when I am travelling and space and weight are important. It takes time to use it properly with all the possible bends and configurations and I did have to be careful of the camera not tipping while I was manipulating it. It works as advertised and is a useful tool.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I tried other small tripods and they did not have enough height and they collapsed under the weight of even small lenses. The Gorilla Pod has height that adjusts very nice and it can support moderate weight lenses and an EOS 6D easily. I attach a Really Right Stuff Ball Head to it via the thread adapter than comes with the Gorillapod.

Heavy users shy away

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

The function of this tripod is very nice. You are able to easily position the tripod in any position that you require. The threaded barb is nice that it has both 3/8 and 1/4 threads (just remove the adapter).

However, if you are constantly repositioning the legs, they will wear out very quickly and will lose the ability to hold position with a weight on the top.

I've only had my tripod for a few weeks, but constantly change the position of the legs and have noticed already they have loosened up quite a bit.

Perhaps the next level up tripod from Joby will work better.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I don't know why I didn't get this sooner.  It works very well for most cameras, even SLRs with smaller lenses.  It also comes in handy as a way to hold a camera without having to hold onto the camera body itself to get into really odd or tight positions.   Good tripod for the money.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I have only used this gorilla pod once, but found it capable. I used it with a Canon Powershot G16 point and shoot. Easy to pack, carry along and set up. I will probably use this when trying to capture group picks that I want to be in or just for extra stability in some locations. This product would be better with a small ball head, which I may add.

Holds a full frame DSLR

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

Haven't used it extensively on the road, but so far in my tests, the tripod supports my Canon 6d with a 16-35mm F4 or 70-200mm F4. Larger bodies/lenses would probably strain it. The key is having a quality ball head like Joby's X.

Works for mid-size DSLR

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

Tripod seems well built and very solid, and coupled with the Joby X ball-head, I can put my Canon 6d on this with a 70-200mm F4 lens. It has no problems supporting the weight. The key is to bend legs into a slight arch, and they won't even spread/settle.

Definitely recommend getting a good ball-head to go with this, as it would be hard to use by itself.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

Needing a light weight tripod that I could just put in my ag i had wanted a Gorrilapod for a while. In B&H i was able to see and feel the quality of the products. I was concerned this model night not suit my Nikon with its battery pack. I need not have worried , it is a fantastic well built and sturdy accessory. It will get a real test on the Scottish Isle of Arran later this summer.

I miss having a good store in the UK, B&H are fantastic, and their service, and hands on feel to the goods made my visit to the store very enjoyable.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

It is not strong enough for my lightweight rebel t3i and my tokina 100 mm macro. The total weight of this setup is only 2.4375 pounds, and the body cannot support it! I am very dissapointed.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

This mini tripod is great. I have yet to test it on site with my DSLR but I have mounted my sound recorder to it. The ability to hook it or place it anywhere is incredible! The interchangeable screws is what sold me and it makes it practice since practically anything can mount on top of this sturdy mini tripod.

Talk about being convenient, I have attached this thing to almost anything. Very versatile, quality product. You can tell the difference between this high grade plastic compared to others. Do not get the knockoffs! They aren't the same. Amazing price compared to others, fast shipping. Nothing but happy of this product and B&H.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I am fully satisfied with this product. I bought it mainly to shoot stable underwater footage. I screwed it to my stand which also has 2 arms where my sola 2000 lumens flood lights are attached. The end result with my gopro was amazing. Both macro and landscape underwater footage was stable and perfect!

The screw is rust resistant and is not affected by sea water. This master piece can handle 3kg load easily. The tripod can be manipulated since it is flexible in almost all directions.

Works great and it's cheap. It fitted perfectly on my filters and lenses. It became a permanent addon to one of my 67mm lenses, making it very easy to move a filter from my EF 24-105mm lens to it.
