I have two uses for the case... 1) transporting my radio controlled airplane across the country(with the foam inserts fitted to the parts), and 2) carrying audio gear (cables, mics, laptop...) for a small band. The case is very heavy duty, and was made to take a beating. I love the solid feel of it, and how good it looks. The only thing I don't like is the weight. At 36lbs, it is quite massive, but that can be attributed to the strength it delivers. Then again, if you are using this case, weight is probably not as important as strength. When I put something in this case, I know that it will be in perfect condition when I open it.

Comments about 1630 Case with Foam (Olive Drab Green):

I bought this to be able to lug around my 27in 5K iMac. I saw that Pelican makes a custom-made case for the iMac, but at a very steep price. I wanted to make mine just like it so it took me a couple of days to get the case how I liked. I put cardboard inserts in the case so that the foam wouldn't get too messed up, seeing that the iMac will be lying in that direction when using the wheels on the case. I also got some heavy duty velcro tape to keep the foam from coming apart or sliding when placing the iMac in or taking it out. I still have a whole layer of foam left after I situated the iMac. i wish this thing was one layer thinner.

Comments about 1630 Case with Foam (Black):

Case is quite rugged and with the pull out foam pieces it was easy to get it set up for our big Mag drill press. Love the wheels and extendable handle, it's as easy as luggage to move around now.

Comments about 1630 Case with Foam (Black):

I use this to transport my Spyder X20. I had a custom fabricated hard foam insert made for it and it has been on and off of airplanes with no issue. I would highly recommend any of the pelican cases. fits just under the 100 lbs. weight limit.

Comments about 1630 Case with Foam (Black):

This is big, heavy, and only just fits a 27in iMac. Had to place it the top of the case with the lid foam closing down on the screen with only 10mm gap top and bottom of the mac. So minus a star for that. But underneath the mac I have my elements and below that my display and cables so all in all a good portable set up. Don't know if I would air freight it as display is at the bottom of the case face down on foam. I don't think it would survive a significant drop in this configuration.
Weighs 40kg++ fully loaded so lifting is a 2 man job and empty it is a struggle to get up stairs.

Comments about 1630 Case with Foam (Black):

Pelican delivers on everything it promised, but this case is enormous.

It literally holds all of my camera gear in one place.

The one critique I have of it is that the handles are so wide and situated in such a way it is clearly designed to be carried by 2 people. Not always a convenient design. The roller wheels and handle make up for this flaw in a bunch of ways.

Also, if you get the foam, tear delicately. The larger cases come with 1" foam chunks so they rip VERY easily and you might have some trouble reattaching. I would recommend going with the velcro padded inserts for this case. Or if you're fancy, get the custom cuts.

Comments about 1630 Case with Foam (Desert Tan):

This case is 40lbs with nothing in it. So it is a bit of a beast! So if you are looking for a case to fly with for checked luggage this is most likely not the one to buy. But man this case is impressive and it turns heads when you walk down 5th Ave with two of them!! haha!

FYI most airlines consider 60" (total of external measurments) to be "Oversized" and 50lbs in weight.

You calculate external volume by adding up the "external" dimensions. So for example this case is 31.28" + 24.21" + 17.48 = 72.97 which = "Oversized"

I really wish Pelican would make it easier to search for cases by external volume and not just size. Their sites sucks bad in this respect. Amazing product terrible website!

Hope this helps someone find what they are looking for!

Using the case for a portable HF radio setup. I bought from B & H because of good price and free shipping. I have been using Pelican cases for all sorts of things for over 20 years and they are still the best - indestructible and waterproof. I like the roller wheels and the pull handle on these larger cases.

super sturdy and great size...all airline regulation. the customizable foam insert is great to carve out specific to size to protect your gear. i've witnessed a TSA agent at customs throwing the gear up into the air instead of placing it on the belt. my arri's were perfectly protected. amazing.

As the previous review states, yep, this is a very heavy case & I would not recommend it for air travel or shipping (unless you want to spend a lot for shipping). If you plan on using this to haul your equipment around locally, it is the best. You can stand on it or sit on it which works out great when setting up your studio on location. I highly recommend this hard case & brand.

Used for Gyro-Stabilized Camera Systems, easier to move around with the rollers. The only downside of the pick and pull foam is that it doesn't last long... with many shipments pieces come out and the fit loosens up.
