Yes, the Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 3 is worth 25 bucksmore. I use a flip flash bracket and after going thru severalCanon Shoe Cord 2's I gave up with Canon. The screws inthe upper shoe would tear out or the wired metal plate in theupper shoe would work loose and leave the flash wobbly. Itried a Dot Line for Canon ETTL shoe cord which is betterconstructed but would inadvertently switch from ETTL to TTLcausing excess flash. Yes, you could reset the flash backto ETTL mode bymounting it directly back to the camera but who has time forthat? Promaster also makes a Canon shoe cord which I wasabout to try next until I noticed the Canon Shoe Cord 3. Assoon as I bought it I noticed that the upper shoe (for theflash) is slightly wider and longer. The shoe bracket is nolonger painted black (which the black paint would just getscratched up anyway). The upper shoe bracket now has ametal female screw collar as opposed to plastic. The upper shoewired metal plate looks thicker than before and is securedby 4 metal screws vs. four impacted metal posts. The uppershoe clam shell cover is secured by four long screws vs. onlythree screws in Shoe Cord 2. The lower shoe (camera mount)is slightly wider and longer than the Shoe Cord 2. It has abetter weather proof seal in the back and the slide lockfeature is faster and easier than the dial screw lock on theShoeCord 2. The foot of the lower shoe is solid metal vs.plastic on the Shoe Cord 2. The lower shoe contacts arerounded metal points vs. thinner rounded metal strips on theShoe Cord 2. The Shoe Cord 3 lower shoe slides on or offthe camera easier than the Shoe Cord 2. So far it worksgreat with my Canon 580EX but only time will tell how longit will last on my flip frame. If you use a flip flashframe save yourself $50 bucks on a Canon Shoe Cord 2 whichwill not last long! For $25 bucks more avoid the headacheof flash problems.

Expertise: Part-time photographer

Problems Encountered: One downside of the Shoe Cord 3 is the Made in Chinapainted on the bottom shoe. Acetone won't remove it, but apaint stripper gel will. Simply cover the Canon logo withcellophane tape and rub the gel on with a Q-tip. Rub theexcess off with a clean Q-tip. Don't over do it as you willeventually rub off the black paint below as well.

I have been through 3 shoe cord 2's by Canon so I coughed up the big bucks on the OC-E3. I use it on an Orbis ring flash bracket. I got 3 months out of it. They all break down at the flash mount not the camera mount. I use a dedicated 580 EXII flash that never leaves the bracket nor does the cord or ring flash. The camera mount gets the most activity and it holds up but the flash mount on these cords does not. I try to take excellent care of my equipment but these Canon shoe cords just don't hold up if you're using them often. I bought a cheap Aputure shoe cord and it's a workhorse. Rugged and lasts. What took me so long to bail on Canon's shoe cords? If you only have occasional use for a shoe cord the Canon product might work for you. If you want to use it daily forget about Canon shoe cords. I'm a Canon owner and love all my Canon gear EXCEPT the shoe cords.

I used it yesterday with my speedlite 320EX and everything was ok, and today it just didn't work. when I put flash on my camera - it works perfectly, but when I connect it with a cord it doesn't work at all!
to sum it up: I used it once before it broke (somehow).

This is an original Canon product, so it works perfectly on my Canon T5i. It is the perfect length for my Stroboframe Quick Flick.

This cord is a necessity for flash photos. It allows you to take control of the light from your canon speed lite. Dont mount that flash on your camrea anymore!

That cord is perfect for using a flash on the camera bracket.
There are lots of cheaper third-name alternatives on the market, but those do not come close to the original one.
It fully supports the e-TTL functions when multiple flashes are in use.
Very tight and durable cord. Perfect length for use both on a bracket and handheld.
Highly recommend getting the original Canon's cord versus third-party brands.
It's worth every penny invested, and even more.

We have four Canon off-camera shoe cords and they work as advertised. Our cords take medium to heavy wear and tear and hold up well. Compared to off-brand cords they are more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Comments about Canon OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord (2'):

I am only rating this product with one star because because the software doesn't allow me to click on zero stars. Canon's previous Off Camera Shoe Cord was great. I probably used one for 10 to 12 years but when I had to replace it and replaced it with their current off-shoe cord I've ended up having to replace them every few months so I'm probably buying 4 or 5 cords a year which becomes a major expense. The cord always breaks in the same place... the foot that attaches to the speed light. Very cheaply made product. Obviously the material Canon uses now is far, far inferior to what they use to use. Because this product is of such poor quality I have now purchase off shoe cords that are far less expensive because I figure even if I have to replace them like I've been replacing the Canon cord I can purchase 4 or 5 of them for the price of one Canon Off Shoe Cord so I figure there isn't much down side. Canon really needs to decide to make a quality product again and use good durable materials that will do the job instead of trying to make it for the lowest cost possible without any concern for how inferior the product is an how much money we, their customers have to pay for the cord as we replace cord after cord after cord. I can say the same for Canon's flagship Speedlight, the 600EX-RT. I wish I had done a review of it after I purchase it. (Hopefully B&H will separate my comments into a review for both products.) It was never disclosed that the flash just shuts down when it gets "too hot" which can be just 30 to 40 flashes, even if shot within a 5 minute period! As a wedding and event photography this is totally unacceptable. I can't risk having the flash quite on me suddenly and unpredictably as the bride and her father are walking up the aisle so the bride can get married, and I can't be changing out flashes every three to five minutes for eight hours or so and missing things because the flash has shut down. And then when the flash does shut down according to the manual I'm suppose to wait 15 minutes before using it again!!!!! In fact it won't work for several minutes while the flash cools down! I can't even begin to say how displeased I am with both of these Canon products. They are both such inferior products that I can imagine any company, even those at the bottom of the market as far as quality and pricing actually putting them on the market, and these products are certainly not what one would expect of a company who should know what photographers need. Words just fail me. I can't begin to say how displeased I am with both products. The flash is the worse flash I have ever used. I could care less that you can trigger a second flash at a far greater distance than with the previous flashes if I can't depend on the flash to fire when I need it to fire. Both products are totally and completely inferior. I don't plan to ever, ever purchase either product again. I have used Canon for 18 years but they have lost me. Shame on Canon for giving us such poor, poor products. There is nothing good that I can say about either product. I only hope that Canon hears us or notices a huge falloff in flash sales, (it will probably take a lot longer to notice a fall in cord sales because it cost less so many photographers will continue to replace it.) I hope at some point they decide to provide the quality products photographers deserve.

Do not purchase or use if planning on using the Canon 600EX-RT. I have purchased 2 of these now and both broke at the shoe mount to screw. It is plastic and can't handle the weight of the 600 EX-RT. especially if using any modifiers including the included gel attachment. my second one snapped after 2 days of use from just normal use.
