These little adapters are really handy for video and film production. I use a baseplate system for attaching accessories such as matteboxes, marshall monitors, and other stuff.
These little adapters allow me to save money by purchasing items drilled for 3/8" but if I need to attach a 1/4" stud in there, I just attach an adapter and go. If I need my 3/8" hole back, I just take the adapter out. Also handy for attaching microphone shock mounts (which are usually 3/8" holes) onto 1/4" studs.
I have a bad with all kinds of adapters in it , and this one is a necessity to have in there. Pick up a few, you'll be glad when the need arises.

I use this bushing for a Manfrotto 701 Pro Fluid Head Mini in conjunction with a Slik set of legs.

The bushing successfully allowed me to use the new fluid head with my old legs, but the head will sometimes loosen instead of pan. This is jarring and can be worked around, but not the result I'm looking for.

Perhaps it's not tightened enough, but without additional tools, I have tightened it as much as it will allow me.

Perfect solution to make tripod head fit

Comments about General Brand 3/8" to 1/4"-20 Tripod Reducer Bushing:

This was a perfect solution to get my 494rc2 manfrotto ball head with 3/8" female mount to connect with a 1/4" mounting screw on my tripod. Just screw this connector into 3/8" female mount, and it becomes a 1/4" instantly which then fits onto 1/4" male. Bravo and thanks, B&H!

I have several microphones and other pieces of equipment that I need to mount to tripods fairly often, so I have a good number of these lying around. It would seem silly to think a small metal bushing could be made "cheaply" but so many are. NOT THIS ONE. It's proper steel - you won't bend and curl the metal over time screwing this in and out of your mic clips. If you know how annoying a stripped screw can be you can imagine what it's like having one of these strip-out and be stuck in your mic clip forever. For those of you who care, rest-assured this one is quality.

Bought a quick release clamp that had 3/8" threads on it to use on a standard tripod head with 1/4" threads. These reducers worked perfectly, they are just deep enough to fit flush with the clamp surface.

I bought this so I could mount my old Soviet Fed2 camera on a modern tripod. It did what it was supposed to do, until one time the head broke when I tried to take it out. I had a hell of a time getting the broken piece out of the camera but eventually did with no damage to the camera itself. I just ordered a couple of the Oben ones (extras in case I lose/brake them, since they are small) so we'll see how they hold up.
