I give this film the Best in saturated color of the Night sky in non light polluted areas

the film handle's vary well in 4 - 6 and 8 hour night long shots

and i have this grievance against digital cameras

i shot film and digital the 40D and the Rebel xt both fully charged with grip and 2 battery's

i did a programed 4 hour exposure with each both cameras made it the 4 hours but when i disengaged the canon 40D the camera choked and died its program would not respond and it faded out and died i was Burned red HOT in the for head
and exemely disappointed i inserted new battery pack and the camera struggled to come back with only a few signs of life on its Grey scale LCD
no image was recovered that camera was deader then a door nail a 1,700 papper weight

and then on another tripod the rebel XT that fared better after its 4 hour exposure ended
fearing it too would die it did not die it still had half its battery life and it was processing the image for 1 2 and after 2 hours and a few minutes the low battery light comes on and the camera stops to operate simply because i could not add power to it it lost its image
I WAS steamed when i got back home i tested the battery's that were in the first round of the 40D and they were each had 1/3rd Life left in them

So back to that Shoot it was about 145 am and i still had 5 hour of Night time left
so i got my 2 film cameras out and set them up
and in one i had this film the Fuji ISO 50
and let me tell you this film preformed flawlessly
and its quality grain per pixel i say is better then 10MP and i am sure it would compete with a 39Mp camera

this film is so good with color it is able to bring the color right out of the stars themselves during this long exposure i am thrilled

and the price is well worth and the wait to see it is not a problem for me

I recommend this film to anyone wanting to photograph Long exposure Night Sky using a lens that is F= 2.0 or better canons 24mm f=1.4

Film also has a another value its evidence
its proof its secure from accidental delete or
Evan like me Outright failure of digitalls

now i don't hate digital there is a use for that format for quick fast instant photography

but Digital has alot of growing up to do before i am satisfied

FILM is the way the truth and the life for the real Photographer

i challenge any digital photographer on my word

Velvia 50 is a film for landscapes, known for it's unique colors. It is not intended for portraits or general use due to its very specific color reproduction. Well... Too specific for my taste.

Even when used as intended - for landscapes in "golden hours" - this film produces colors that are very unnatural and actually very unpleasant to my eye. So unpleasant that the only way to save images for me was to scan them and correct colors in post.

This is a great film with very unique character, just not for everybody.

I think this film does a pretty great job, having fine grain and punchy colors. I decided it wasn't really the film for me, though, since I need faster speeds for handheld work.

Sucks

By The Big Ugly

from The Dolph

Do not ever buy this film. It is the definition of noise and the color his horrible. Imagine if you took a bucket of blue paint and splashed t all over your film, thats what t looks like. The grain is horrible its worst then using an iphone 3 with a cracked lens. I would not even give this trash to my ex tori its hat bad and trust me, shes the worst, :(. Like she stole my 50 dollar concert ticket from me #nochillinthestreets

Velvia is the reason film is still needed. Makes the travel involved in landscape photography worth the effort.

As always Fuji offers up a fine grain slide film with rich blues & greens. Since I was shooting in Pacific NW, this was exactly what I needed.

This film is my absolute favorite for color rendition, fine grain and tonality. The grain is so fine that it almost looks like a digital image. I've shot it with a 1968 Leicaflex SL with a 35mm Elmarit and 50mm Summicron, and the results are very impressive. I recently rented a Leica M7 with 35mm Summarit and the results were beyond expectations with this film. The film costs this much for a reason. As with all transparency films you need to be spot on with your exposures because it's much more difficult to correct them in post production. You don't have as much latitude as you do with negative films.

I have always generally preferred digital photography over most color films because of the former's vibrant colors and better detail. That is until I tried a roll of Velvia 50. I scanned the negatives onto a disk and when I opened the images up on my coputer I was astounded by the results. Not only were the colors as vibrant as any of my digital photos but the images had much better depth than their digital counterparts. I took two shots of the Freedom Tower in NYC, the first with a digital camera and the second using a film camera loaded with Velvia 50. Looking at the two images side by side the digital image looked flat in comparison to the film image which had noticeably better depth. Phenomenal film for landscape shots but not so great for closeup portraits as it has a tendency to turn skin yellowish green.

I use this film in my 1953 vintage View Master Personal Camera. I can make wonderful 3-D pictures with it and I LOVE the slow speed film. It is the BEST for nighttime photos. The shutter speed on my 62 year old camera is as slow as a turtle (max speed = 1/100 sec) and background light has plenty of time to stroll onto the film. ;-)
