I shoot mainly Landscapes and some Interiors. This lens is fantastic for both applications. My first recommendation to you is...Read the Professional test results and recommendations about the lens and...Believe B&H Buyer Reviews!Only 4 out of 417 gave less than four stars!.....Then make your decision.I have been reading about this lens for several years and finally bought it. It is incredible! My current setup is a...Nikon D800E Digital SLR Camera - Set to FX ModeNikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens USANikon GP-1 GPS Unit Weighing in at 4lbs. 8oz.Not a small package and not a lightweight package! For me these are not problems. They are a small price to pay for the spectacular images this lens records. (Also... I admit I am used to a large setup. When shooting weddings I always used a Mamiya 6X7 Pro with 110mmm Lens and a Sunpak 622 flash.)Think it over carefully and then make your decision. If you choose this lens you WILL BE pleased with the images you are able to record! It's size, weight, and price is worth it when you are viewing the wonderful images you created and can say… "I took those photographs!"

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I use this lens on a Canon Mark 3 body. The adapter that I have for this combination is the Novoflex EOS/NIK-NT Lens Adapter for Nikon G Type Lenses to Canon. This is a fantastic combination. The lens is used for astroscape photography. I am absolutely pleased with the performance of this lens in that capacity. The stars are sharp, without choma or abberations.

Superb Zoom Lens!!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I have been using the other Nikkor f/2.8 pro lenses on my D810 and they are excellent, but this may be the best of the bunch. The edge to edge sharpness is remarkable, it focuses very quickly, and the build quality is outstanding. It appears to be comparable or exceed the performance of some my Nikkor f/1.8 primes for acuity, which surprised me. If I need filters, I can always mount a prime lens, so there are no serious drawbacks for my uses of this lens. I couldn't be happier to add this lens to my collection.

I almost made this mistake

By afbigfish

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I was days away from buying this lens when one of my other even more expensive Nikkor lenses failed (stuck focus ring) after being told it would be a min charge of 600 for the repair I decided to try and fix it myself. The good news I was the bad news is I saw behind the curtain so to speak and saw how poorly and cheaply my other Nikkor lens was engineered/assembled. This lens might have great optics but that means nothing if you cant focus the dang thing... My entire family have been a life long loyal Nikon users. Shame on you Nikon for manufacturing things so poorly and charging a premium for it. The masking tape used to hold things in place inside these lenses makes it look like they intentionally try to have it fail 5-6 years down the road so they can charge you $600 for more masking tape!

Great wide angle lens

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I decided to buy this lens to replace two lenses in my bag - the 17-35mm and the 10.5mm DX lens. On an FX camera, the 14-24mm basically does all the things I want from both of those two lenses. It's a big lens (and heavy), but it sure is beautiful. Nice work, Nikon.

I love this lens! It has always been on my wish list. And now I own it. Super clear photos from 14-24mm. I don't carry it around 24/7, so the weight is not an issue for me! Just great optics, thanks, Nikkor! ???

A good wide angle lens

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I bought the lens for those times when you want a wide field of view. I used the lens for the first time this week end. I was disappointed when the manual said it wasn't compatible with filters but was able to hand hold a graduated neutral density filter in front of it and get some nice shots of Shell falls. I also used the lens for some landscapes. The lens focuses almost instantly. It has a manual focus ring as well. The lens is vary well built.

Great Lens

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

As everyone says, this is a great lens. It is sharp and solid. Got the Lee Sw150 filter kit which is a really solid piece of equipment and, along with the 14-24 produces great results. I sweated the fact that traditional filters wouldn't fit the 14-24 but am glad I went for this lens and the filter kit.

Sharp as a tack!

By Bulldog Mamma

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

This is my first wide angle lens. I shot my first evening sunset the day I got it and am looking forward to my next shoot. Even at higher ISO (800 - 1600) the lens is sharp. The color of the sunset I shot is very true.

Given that I plan mostly landscape shooting with this lens I will need to invest in a filter system for it which is not cheap. I am currently relying on processing to correct bright skies and such. A filter system would really cut down on post processing.

It is a heavy lens but one that I am willing to carry. The VR is essential for me.

Usé el lente en condiciones adversas como dentro de una cueva. Me fue muy útil para hacer fotos donde no había lugar para hacerse para atras. Me funcionó para captar la dimensión de la cueva.

Best Uses

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I purchased this lens for the very wide field of view and fast 2.8 aperture. I will be using it mainly for interiors of buildings, milky way / nights sky photos and landscape photography. Compared to my 17-35mm, the field of view increase is considerable. The lens is very sharp and I did not experience any issues with flair shooting directly into the sun as others have. Not worried about lack of polarizer use as at this wide the polarizing will not go across the entire frame evenly anyway. (this is a problem on my 17-35)

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

In the interest of full disclosure, I've been shooting Nikon gear since 1980. My first transition into the digital era came with a purchase of a D2x. This particular lens has been on my wish list for a long time, but the full benefit of the wider end of the zoom range was compromised wth the DX format. Now shooting with a full-frame FX body, I finally took the leap and bought this lens and it really is beautiful. I've never been one to get excited by gear, viewing it as a tool to get a job done, but this chunk of glass has lived up to my expectations.

I use it for architectural and documentary subjects and am still exploring it's best applications. Apart from it's impressive appearance and beautiful construction, it produces really crisp, tack-sharp images worthy of the high-resolution sensors we work with today.

So far, I haven't encountered anything to be disappointed about except the price - which I guess we just have to get used to...

Sharp as advertised, great contrast and color. I also owned a 20mm 1.8G which is very good but the 14-24 is still sharp wide open!

Cons: It is heavy and expensive.

While the lens is heavy, once you start taking pics you realize why. It is a tremendously made piece of equipment and worth the price. I'm just a casual photographer and I'm not even using it on a full frame yet. The quality on my 7100 is amazing, so i can only imagine once I put it on a full frame.

I have had my Nikon 14-24mm f2.8G ED lens a couple of weeks and am super pleased with the purchase. I have owned other wide angle lens in the past and nothing compares to the sharpness from the middle to the edges. The lines are straight and true. I own the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 VR, 70-200 f2.8 and other Nikon primes however this lens is the best of the bunch!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Used it within the first week of purchasing on a trip to Moab, UT. Great for close ups and great as a wide angle to capture fantastic landscape pics. Was great shooting the stars at Arches National Park (2.8 allows you to shoot at lower ISO thus less noise in the pics. The best extended exposure shots I have ever taken came with this lens ... Wish I could attach one with this review)
