I shoot mainly Landscapes and some Interiors. This lens is fantastic for both applications. My first recommendation to you is...Read the Professional test results and recommendations about the lens and...Believe B&H Buyer Reviews!Only 4 out of 417 gave less than four stars!.....Then make your decision.I have been reading about this lens for several years and finally bought it. It is incredible! My current setup is a...Nikon D800E Digital SLR Camera - Set to FX ModeNikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens USANikon GP-1 GPS Unit Weighing in at 4lbs. 8oz.Not a small package and not a lightweight package! For me these are not problems. They are a small price to pay for the spectacular images this lens records. (Also... I admit I am used to a large setup. When shooting weddings I always used a Mamiya 6X7 Pro with 110mmm Lens and a Sunpak 622 flash.)Think it over carefully and then make your decision. If you choose this lens you WILL BE pleased with the images you are able to record! It's size, weight, and price is worth it when you are viewing the wonderful images you created and can say… "I took those photographs!"

I bought this lens but sold it after testing it. First off, judging from the sample I received, and after side by side testing, I discovered it to be NOT AS SHARP AS my 1990's Vintage Nikon 20-35 F2.8 This was the main reason I got rid of it. It simply was not optically sharp enough to justify it's other downsides (see below). I know the hype says this lens is the sharpest of the sharp, but this is NOT what I found by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes, sharpness in the far corners was very respectable, but center sharpness was nothing to write home about.

Second downside, and perhaps the biggest disadvantage is the huge exposed front element. I could not relax for a minute walking around with this lens attached to my camera, nor should you.

Finally the lens is huge. You will not get any Henri Cartier type candids with this out on the street. In fact, you WILL get security wondering "what that pro photographer out there is up to".

I honestly feel the 20-35 and 17-35 Nikons are better lenses for most people - by far!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I have only had lens for a short time, but I really like the different perspective it offers. It is a super sharp lens. It is fairly heavy, but I don't much care. After all, it is a landscape lens, and not an every day walk around lens. I strongly recommend it.

An amazing piece of glass. Solid and well made, the workmanship and construction are outstanding. The images it produces are tack sharp. The zoom function is easy and smooth, the focus fast and accurate. When shooting architecture, lines stay straight.

Excellent Image Quality and Built to Last

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I bought the 14-24mm f/2.8 in mid-November 2016 to supplement an aging Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 that was beginning to become noisy when focusing. No regrets on my purchase! I am also fortunate to have received a good copy of the 14-24mm. Calibration found it to be spot-on and post processing showed nothing disappointing at my commonly used focal lengths. It is everything you can expect from a wide angle lens at this level. I use the lens exclusively with a Nikon D5 and the combined system has some weight. Most of my work is done on a tripod so perhaps I am more concerned with having a durable lens for daily use than having to carry it around.

Recently, I had an opportunity to work with the 14-24mm lens outdoors at near-zero degrees F. After 45 minutes on a tripod, zoom operation remained smooth and auto-focus was still sharp. I feel this is where the heavier construction of the lens pays off. If you need a wide angle lens that is functionally as great under all as well as extreme conditions, this is the one to get.

You will need to be more aware of the unprotected front end of the 14-24mm and thinking of it as a 24-70mm will help keep you from making contact with things. Keep the lens cover handy, especially when outdoors in cold weather. Covering the lens before you return indoors will keep moisture from condensing on the surface of the lens. The cover seals well enough to maintain slower air transitions within and it allows the moisture to form on the surface of the cover and not on the lens face. I also reconfigured an older Pelican case for lens(s) and camera to further slow the temperature transitions during transport in winter.

I expect to get 10 years of use from my 14-24mm lens and in doing so, minimize cloth rubbing on the lens surface. I use a Gittos Lens Cleaning blower/brush for daily cleaning of dust. Then, less frequently or where you find stuck-on dirt that will not dust off, use the cleaning solution and micro-cloth.

A great Nikon lens. It's sharp and very well made. The only negative is that it does not accept a front end filter.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

This is by far the best ultra wide angle lens and one of the best lenses ever made. I use this mainly for architecture and interiors. If you know how to control the perspective you will have no problems at all even on 14mm and shooting close. It's not a toy that's why it's heavy, really not for amateurs or beginners. Don't believe anyone complaining about this, they don't know how to use it. My only complaint is that Nikon really should take more seriously the rubber's. It's not normal for lenses of this class.

Loving This Lens!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Good glass is necessary for good photography, and the AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens is a welcome addition to my photographic arsenal. I am so impressed with how well it is engineered. The design, build, and weight of this lens feels great in the hand and balances well on camera. The zoom ring feels very well machined—Nothing sloppy or cheap feeling about it. The only drawback to this lens is the fact that the lens surface cannot be protected by a screw-on filter, and it must be protected from airborne particles. A lens with this angle of view naturally has incredible Depth-of-Field, so every speck of dust shows in the final image. Having said that, I still strongly recommend this lens and would definitely buy it again, having used it for six months now.

As Advertised

By Rob

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I rented this lens a couple years back and did so again the following year. I had read this is the best wide angle lens available and found that hard to believe. Once I took it shooting, I couldn't believe how good the optics were! I have previously shot with the Nikon 10-24mm and the Sigma 10-20mm (F4-5.6) on half frame Nikon's. The complex barrel distortion on the Sigma 10-20mm was severe and difficult to fix in post processing. The Nikon 10-24mm had better, but still noticeable barrel distortion on the wide end. That's to be expected, but with the curved front lens element, the distortion is kept minimal. This lens is really as great as you've heard and read!

I use this lens on a Canon Mark 3 body. The adapter that I have for this combination is the Novoflex EOS/NIK-NT Lens Adapter for Nikon G Type Lenses to Canon. This is a fantastic combination. The lens is used for astroscape photography. I am absolutely pleased with the performance of this lens in that capacity. The stars are sharp, without choma or abberations.

Superb Zoom Lens!!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I have been using the other Nikkor f/2.8 pro lenses on my D810 and they are excellent, but this may be the best of the bunch. The edge to edge sharpness is remarkable, it focuses very quickly, and the build quality is outstanding. It appears to be comparable or exceed the performance of some my Nikkor f/1.8 primes for acuity, which surprised me. If I need filters, I can always mount a prime lens, so there are no serious drawbacks for my uses of this lens. I couldn't be happier to add this lens to my collection.
