Still looking for the perfect bag...this one comes very close. I own a Lowepro Compurover AW and a Tamrac Adventure 9 bag. The Compurover is too heavy and you have to crack it open like an egg to get to the Camera compartment. The Tamrac is the perfect size, but you have to take the bag off and lay it on the ground or your lap to open the camera compartment, otherwise you risk spilling out all of your gear! Not good.

This Fastpack 250 intrigued me because the side access pocket allows access to your camera quickly without taking the backpack off. Guess what? it works. You really can get your camera out quickly while still wearing the bag.

I bought this as strictly a travel bag. I'm a pilot so I needed a medium sized bag that I could fit in the cockpit while carrying my 40D and 3 L lenses. I also need the top compartment of the bag to carry a few snacks, water and other supplies.

Okay here's the breakdown.

Pros:
1. Slim design, fits in cockpit and on top of my roller suitcase with ease. Also fits very nicely in the space underneath your seat in an airliner.
2. Side camera access in a serious advantage. I considered the sling packs, but I like the comfort and security of having a full backpack. The sling packs are uncomfortable after a while and hard to position to get your camera out without twisting up your clothes or coat.
3. It's lightweight and comfortable to wear. Significantly lighter than my other two bags.
4. Not as pricey as my two other backpacks.
5. Side pocket fits a good sized Nalgene water bottle.
6. Medium size and all black color doesn't shout "Camera Bag!" while wearing it.

Cons:
1. No all weather cover flap. A major oversight if you ask me. I took the one off of my Tamrac to use with the Fastpack.
2. No chest strap. I think it needs one.
3. It's almost a little small. I wouldn't go any smaller than this bag because you'll be leaving something home that you'll want later.
4. It needs a side or bottom strap that you can attach a monopod to. I'm thinking of having one sewn on. For now I've attached a carabiner to the top handle and strap on my monopod there.
5. Outside pockets are really worthless. They are sewn in flat and don't have room to expand. You can get a few filters and a flash card wallet in them but that's about it.

Like I said it's not perfect, but I'm giving it four out of five mainly because I like the overall size and design of the bag as well as the convenience of the side access camera pocket.

I'm a pro-photographer, obsessed with finding the perfect backpack, and I've tried A LOT. I like this backpack. I really do. I've taken it around the country and on some intense hikes with a lot of gear. The storage space is the main gear area is great, and I love both front pouches. The waist straps are kind of bulky and annoying when you don't need them, but when you do (hiking long distances or running through airports with lots of other luggage),they are a life (and back) saver. HOWEVER, the side zip compartments for the laptop and camera gear are a fatal flaw in design, which have now cost me over a $[$] in gear repairs. I know it sounds like I must just be careless, but please know I'm about as type-A with my gear as they come. In both instances, I had my backpack up on an elevated surface and securely laying/standing in the CORRECT position to remove items .1. the trunk of my car and 2. a dining table. One time I unzipped the laptop compartment to get something else out and my MacBook pro literally slid out the side and onto a concrete parking lot. Granted, MacBooks do have a very smooth surface, but it happened so fast, there was no stopping it. Fortunately the MacBook still works, but suffered horrible aesthetic dents and scratches. Incident 2: Last week I opened the side pouch to retrieve something and my brand new 24-70 lens literally tumbled out the side and onto the floor. I now have a $700 repair bill. Please know the bag was laying FLAT on it's back on the table. But once you open the side zip pocket, there is no "edge" or anything to stop gear from rolling out that side. The same was true for the laptop. In BOTH cases, had there been TOP access points, the damages could have been avoided. I've had gear fall/tumble out before on the ground, but it was in-concequencial since there was no major impact. So, I'd recommend either accessing it on the floor in a kneeling position, or being EXTREMELY cautious (not good if you're in a hurry) when opening compartments from an elevated surface. Just trying to save someone else the same agony I have suffered with this pack.

Not perfect, but Close

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

Like most photographers, I have more bags than cameras. Always on the hunt for something better I figured I give this one a try. Not perfect, but close. There is plenty of room for several lenses and a body in the lower portion and enough space above to carry lunch, a coat, and/or other gear. There are several other zippered pockets to carry whatever. I haven't used the computer compartment but it does work to carry hiking sticks, but not wide enough for a tripod. Maybe a monopod. What's not to like? The water bottle pouch on the right side is pretty much worthless. It's netting held in shape by a drawstring. It's ok when the pack is upright but if you put the pack down to get something from the lower pouch the bottle rolls away. Bad design. My only other criticism is that there is no way to attach a tripod or anything else to the pack.

Plus - it holds my Canon DSLR, 18-135 and 70-300 lenses and flash perfectly. Comfortable to wear and good construction.
Minus - wish the waist straps were removable.

Really Big Bag

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

I use this to carry my 15.5 inch laptop, its charger, external hard drive, wireless mouse, headphones, and some more things on top of my DSLR with kit lens (there's plenty of room for a bigger lens), external sound recorder, intervalometer, small 50mm prime and lens lots of accessories. I can even carry my Roxant stabilizer in the top compartment. This is a really big bag and you can carry everything you need. However, it's so big that I'm considering getting a something small to hold just the DSLR. 4 stars because there is no tripod strap on the side.

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

I have been looking for some time for a backpack to replace the day pack that has slowly being falling apart. I wanted a pack that allowed for quick side access, and storage for a raincoat or jacket. This bag fits the bill to a tee. It is a great bag for day use and short weekend trips. Has just enough room for a DSLR with short to mid range zoom attached and an additional lens and more. Great construction and great fit. If I was to add anything to this bag it would be a chest strap as I sometime want the added sense of security.

May not be practical if you have many big zoom lenses

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

The product looks good and seems durable. It probably accommodate most photographers need. One exception may be pro shooters with a big full frame camera body and many long zoom lenses. They may just not have enough space.

I'm replacing an existing sling bag that is too small. This small back pack has room for everything I need including a table, light jacket, room for wallet and keys and looks like it will fit under the airplane seat with no problem.

Perfect

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

Did a test run filling up this pack as if I was going for a weekend trip. Got my Nikon with the 24-120mm lens, Olympus omd 5 II and its 12-40mm lens, Nikon 20mm lens and a small bag with additional batteries and chargers stuffed into the lower half. Got a pair of jeans, a couple waffle weave long sleeve shirts, underwear, socks and a wool sweater stuffed into the top. It was heavy, but the shoulder straps and pack are well padded. I would have to use a tote for shoes and toiletries and other comfort needs, but both of those would definitely be able to carry on any flight.
I liked the price and size. I am 5'5" and middle aged. I can handle the weight for travel duration. Would definitely use this as a day pack with my lunch in the upper section. There is a slot for a laptop but probably wouldn't use it on a short trip. The only con is no way to attach a travel tripod but I am working on that.

My experience with bags is that if it feels good then the bag is the right one. Some pros and cons.
Pros: SPACIOUS, Versatile, Sturdy, Structured, Protective, Waist strap.
Cons: No rain tarp, No tripod slip on the side, no chest buckle.

To sum up this fantastic bag, I can carry 3 lenses, a flash, a few filters, batteries plus charger, cords, and a computer. Yes it fits a 15.6" laptop. Big thanks to b&h on the quick shipping

Good cheap backpack (bought on sale)

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

Camera compartment is very well padded with lots of room but the velcro dividers dont leave much room for rearrangement. Upper compartment has ample storage and is well laid out, extra pockets come in handy. Good medium sized backpack.
Would be better if it came with a rain cover.

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

I've had the smaller version of this backpack for several years, but needed some more room. This holds my DSLR with a 18-270 lens attached and has room for 4 other lenses (or 3 and a flash), plenty of room for my iPad mini, a small tripod and more. Haven't taken it on a trip yet but it rides comfortably even with the waist belt folded up and not in use.(I'm not likely to be going on any extended hikes except in TSA lines) It appears to be as well made as its smaller cousin which is a good thing. It doesn't come with a rain coat but I think the material could stand up to the occasional shower. I use it for storage at home and it helps that it stands up by itself. All in all, good value for the money.

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

So many places to put everything you need to cary. Camera area is very well protected from shock and from anyone trying to get into your bag. Traveled abroad with the bag and it was worth every penny. Not the most stylish bag, but it does the job better then anything I've seen.

Comments about Fastpack 250 Backpack (Black):

      use for digital SLR camera
Plenty of room for camera (with lens) with space for additional lenses. In my case I have camera + 18-55 kit lens, a 28-200 lens, 100-300 lens, 50mm, plus a large flash and there's still room for another small lens. This is just in the padded lower camera compartment.
Above is room for batteries, chargers, phones, keys, cables a small tablet.
There is also a padded space for a laptop/tablet.
      has water bottle holder.
The camera is accessible via side pocket, you can remove the strap from your right arm and sling it around to the front giving access to the side entry.

The only reason to knock it a star is no provision for tripod and no rain cover.
