Great lights, I've used them a lot. Good color temp and consistant color as the output varies, fast recycle times and a lot of power for the price. The quality of the light is really nice, I got two of them and makes for a nice portable setup. One of the units did die after 11.5 months and they replaced it no questions asked. They were super easy to deal with and didn't try to play some "impact damage" game like some manufacturers do.

The monolights seemed well made but one of the units did not fire the flash or do anything other than light the modelling light, and it had to be returned for another one ( still to come). The speed of flash seems slower than some makes but as these were for lighting backgrounds that is less important. Hopefully the replacement unit arrives soon and we can put them to the test.

Haven't used it for a studio shoot yet but fired a few test shots. Works great; I have Impact transmitter and receivers and have not had a misfire. Will review again after a studio shoot. Compliments my Alien Bee nicely.

Bearing in mind the price point of this strobe, we are happy with the results. Easy setup and operation. Variable adjustable power lacks accuracy but that was to be expected when researching at the features.

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Monolight (120VAC):

I bought this monolight when I received the B&H deal alert while on vacation. I've been using my speedlights and collapsible softboxes for home and school portraits. The recycle times on my speedlights vary and quick successive shots vary in output. This is my 1st time monolight and I'm very happy with it for the number of features and simplicity in a small package and price. The easy to mount the lamp protector and reflector, integrated umbrella holder, photo cell, modeling light, ready beep on/off, power level dial features, sync cord are perfect for a novice to intermediate studio photographers who just need a moderate wattage monolight. I'm able to power a 30x40 umbrella softbox for full length shots. Recycle times are very fast even at full power. Westcott customer service is available for any issues/questions. I only kick myself for missing out on yesterdays deal to get a 2nd one on sale.

Good strobe. Bowen S mount does not hold an unbalanced long slender soft box very well. I experimented with a bright LED for the modeling light. It works well and is 5000K too.

Works great, a great value. Works nicely with the umbrellas and various combinations of beauty ring. It has a l50 watt model light for backlighting. I haven't been on a photoshoot yet with it. That will be the real test.

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Monolight (120VAC):

This light was purchased to replace my old Bogen Monolight from the 1980's. I needed a light more up to date with a flash trigger feature to avoid cords. I have yet to take on location but I went through all the functions and it appears to work just fine. I'll set it up soon in conjunction with the other moonlight for the test with the slave trigger for camera in preparation for on location portraits at the church.

I used this for a photo shoot at a military ball last night. This is my 4th time shooting this event and I have always struggled with lighting. What a difference this year! Best photos I have done for them. Set up was simple, no problems with operation.

Right one for beginner

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Monolight (120VAC):

I bought 2 set of this strobe. They were well packed and shipped. Their appearance are good. But one of the strobe's slave cell switch button not smooth, once you press it "on", it's hard to press back to "off". The same strobe when you manually turn the power adjust knot, the strobe starts minor flash. Other than those, they respond fast and powerful. 1/4 of power of 2 is enough to light up my garage studio. I tested them for HSS, 1/4000, at 1/4 power still very good. But I found out that they can't remotely adjust output power through the SYNC trigger, you have to manually turn the power adjust knot at the back. It is helpful and get fast answer through B&H product page. A Westcott expert gave me a solution that to use the ND film to get more power control: "You can use a Neutral Density Gel to lower the output further on the fill light. Several are available at B & H at various densities to reduce the light without changing color or quality. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?sts=ma&pn=2&N=0&Ntt=Rosco+Neutral+Density"

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Monolight (120VAC):

These lights were very simple to setup and use. They work well. I like this model because you can optionally turn the "beep" off (letting you know when the unit ha fully recharged. The variable strength of the modelling light is also a good feature. They come with a decent length of power cord.

PERFECT

By Lyle

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Monolight (120VAC):

Works flawlessly as advertised. With a monolight, it is imperative it works with either a receiver or from another monolight or camera flash. In other words, you want the monolight to flash when it sees another monolight or camera flash...........go off. That is what this strobelite does with no muss or fuss. If you have another monolight, like I do, buy this to add to your collection. If you don't, then buy a few of them. Remember that with this monolight, it does not come with a light stand which you'll need to order separately. Monolight stands are relatively inexpensive.

Great entry in to studio lighting

By Chris

from undisclosed

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Monolight (120VAC):

Amateur review: This is my first experience with a monolight, so take my comments with that grain of salt. It is extremely simple to operate and came with everything I needed to get started using it. Not burning through a pile of batteries as I experiment with using this for lighting was probably the most pleasurable aspect compared to my usual speedlights. If there is one complaint, and I suspect this is ignorance on my part, but when using this for headshots I wish I could get the power a little lower so that I could use larger apertures. I have tried a number of modifiers to steal a few stops from it such as grids in the reflector as well as a diffuser (not to mention a beauty dish with a diffuser, softboxes, etc). Still, hard to complain at the price.

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Monolight (120VAC):

At first, I was a little afraid to buy this Monolight but after getting it and using it, I am very happy I got it.
The cost was another reason for me in buying. The modeling light is a little weak but I can change it for a stronger bulb. This is a great buy!
