Owning a kitchen design studio for the last eight years, I began taking my own photos of our finished kitchens about five years ago. For the last two to three years I have been using static umbrella lights. When I ordered the lights, I should have known that I was buying above my experience level. I was asked to choose my experience level -- the lowest of which was "advanced amateur."
The kit came with no printed instructions and a DVD that dealt more with the fine points of portrait photography, and little or nothing about how to set up the lights (esp. how to assemble the soft boxes.
I called the manufacturer. They were very helpful -- sending me printed instruction (that were somewhat helpful) and links to video tutorials (they are, and will be quite helpful.
Once set up, I love the blights, but I know I have a lot to learn to make best use of them.

My wife and I have a start up home studio and wedding photography business. We purchased this to do a job at a school for Senior pictures. The product is great the aspect that it works perfectly, sets up in a couple of minutes and is excellent in the delivery of flash. BUT!!!!, the actual quality of the product is poor to say the least. The visual quality of the carrying case is easily torn, the stands are made from a poor plastic material, the strobe light buttons don't go down all the way, and the strobe light casing is made from a cheap plastic. When I opened the package the for the first time, I saw that everything was made in china. Honestly, I though that the Westcott brand was going to be a lot better than what it turned out to be. I saw the TD 5 lights and decided to see the less expensive version to see it the TD 5 would be better, but if the less expensive one's are like this I don't want to see the quality of a $3,000.00 - 5,000.00 light set.

This is a great kit that is very easy to setup and use right out of the box. There is a video included that gives great insight to lighting and various uses of the three light setup. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to start studio photography.

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Three Monolight Kit (120VAC):

I have been shooting pictures for about 8 years now and needed a studio for indoor work. I looked at many different products and decided on this kit by Westcott. I could only rely on the reviews and salesman I was talking with. When I received this kit it took me about an hour to get things set up and am very happy with what I purchased. The system was easy to set up and the quality is really good. I dont know what the more expensive kits are like but this is all I need and it does a super job. The stands seem really nice and everything seems to be professional quality.

Comments about Westcott Strobelite Plus Three Monolight Kit (120VAC):

For what they do, they are great. They lack most of the modern conveniences one expects from new strobes, but these are the cheapos... so no wireless or digital settings. The flip side of that is that they are wicked easy to set up and get working day one! So, they are a great tool to learn on. I would think that at this price point, most strobes fall under the same category. Part of me wishes I had known about the Paul Buff Einsteins that were coming out at the same time I bought these... then again, the investment would probably have been close to double. As it is, I have lightstands that work very well, modifiers that are durable enough for studio use, and lights that are consistent and ready to go.

I'm thrilled with this product, especially considering cost. Set up is easy. The only problem I had was assembling the light boxes, but once I got passed that...I'm happy. I was even happy with the carrying case. It's not all perfect, but geez...for the money..I'm happy!

Great setup for beginners. DVD was not as helpful as I would have liked and no instructions on how to setup the lightbox, but after a bit of trial and error I got it working nicely. I use in a home studio with not a lot of room so it is nice to quickly setup and tear down.

I bought these lights as a set of inexpensive travel lights. they work fantastic. the only problems I have are that the rolling case they come with isnt strong enough if you're traveling a lot. and the second thing is that the soft boxes dont seem to be made for continual break down and set up. but in my oppinion its worth it to up grade the case and soft boxes. other than those two problems the lights have worked fantasticly for me.
