I purchased this to put on a Bogen/Manfrotto 679 monopod. The monopod comes with a screw mount but it's fixed in place. This head allows you to pivot the camera up and down (or sideways). Many people prefer this type over a ballhead because with a monopod, you can easily turn the pod itself, so this makes positioning the camera a little less complicated.

This head is simple and easy to use. It's medium-weight for its size and fits nicely on my 679. Even with the head in place, the monopod is still nicely balanced. A heavier head would make the pod topheavy.

The head is heavy enough to secure my Canon 40D and a 70-300mm IS lens (my largest) without moving.

The version I bought has a QR plate. On a monopod, a QR system is especially nice since I typically pop the camera on and off it numerous times, while I tend to mount a camera once on a tripod and leave it for awhile. The plate fits securely on my Canon and isn't annoying if I leave it in place while hand-holding. The plate slips in and is held very securely.

This head has a double-lock. There's the main flip-catch, but there's also a rotating pin lock as a safety. If you put the pin in place, the flip-lock won't release--so you can't accidently release the camera if you bump the release. You can, however, leave the pin unengaged if you don't want the safety. I like having the choice.

All in all I'm very happy with it.

I would give it 3 1/2 stars. The good thing is, it's sturdy and it does what it says it does.

Unfortunately, I find it pretty difficult to "quickly" release the camera from the "quick" release. It just... you kind of have to force it a little more than I'd prefer. It took some getting used to and a little bit of frustration. But if it caused major frustration, it would be getting no stars.

Also notable: I use this mostly for shooting VIDEO on the streets of India, with a monopod [680B 4-Section Compact Monopod (Black) by Manfrotto] and a Canon XH-A1 camera. It is small enough to travel well in my Porta-Brace backpack with my camera, monopod, light, mic, tapes, batteries, etc.

So even though the quick release is stiff, I like that it's still easier than a screw-on.

A Great addition to my monopod!

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

I love this head! I ordered it after replacing my almost 30 year old Manfroto Pod with a Manfroto 290. See my rave review of the 290. For the last 20 years, I shoot mostly Theatre Production, in the LA area. I have never worked with a head on my Pod. It is a great addition, since sets are now multi level. I just adjust the head, instead of having to angle the Pod, Manfroto it is... well designed, stable, and sturdy! Even with the head, it is light, and easy to move through rows of theatre seats. It is amazingly useful tool!

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

Not much to say about this item. It's a tilt head for a monopod and works well in that capacity. I feel it is easier to use than a ball head on a monopod and works without a lot of fussing around.

Nice, but not a real Manfrotto product

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

Very nice tilt head for a monopod, with a RC2 plate, which is what my Manfrotto tripod head uses.  Only gets one star as the build quality is not to Manfrotto standard.  Lever jammed after six months and is extremely difficult to use.  Sent to certified repair center and it's been on "Parts hold" for three weeks.  Just not up to snuff

Fit my Manfrotto monopod with 1/4" threads. Not sure how to make it fit something with 3/8" threads. I like the unlocking lever. Should keep me from accidentally unlatching the platform. Nice product but a bit pricey.

This monopod head fit my Manfrotto 680B perfectly. The quick release allows me to quickly and easiy switch between handheld, my monopod and my tripod. Very glad I bought the real deal (Manfrotto) instead of the off shore knockoffs available on auction sites. Definitely worth the extra few dollars!

I used to get tired easily by holding camera with zoom lens. With Strong Manfroto monopod and this head, I could keep taking photos tirelessly for hours together. Realizing now on why I missed using it in a last few years.

Tilt Head for Monopod

By PhotoAl

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

I photograph NFL with a 400 mm 2.8, which is a heavy lens. I was using a ball head and it would get loose and pinch my hand. The Tilt Head gives me enough mobility without getting loose. The quick release is a added benefit when I break down equipment in a hurry.

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

I was looking for an inexpensive, solid head for use with my monopod and this fit the bill quite nicely. It has the typical Manfrotto quality build level and the quick release plates fit my small Manfrotto video head.

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

I use this product on my Manfrotto monopod. Obviously, you don't need a "pan" function on a monopod, so this is a great option for addressing the occasional need to tilt your monopod-mounted camera up/down.

As with every Manfrotto product I have, this is extremely well designed and built. I have never been disappointed with anything they make.

Compatible with Manfrotto Tripod Head

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

With the mounting plate attached to the 70 200 Nikon lens, it is very easy to mount either on the monopod or the tripod. The lens locks into place firmly and very quickly. We do not use the tilting head feature very much. The plate is attached to the lens to fit the pistol grip head on the tripod so the grip is on the left hand side.
