This tripod supports over 25 pounds yet weighs under 5 lbs. and it has the quick leveling feature. A level tripod head is needed for panning, video, panoramics, and even wedding group photos and this tripod makes it very fast to achieve this without adjusting the legs.

It has the slower to use Gitzo twist locks for the leg sections and these are easily damaged by sand and grit so more care needs to be taken with this tripod outdoors.

It comes with a cheap cloth pouch which Gitzo might as well have left out of the box. I have received better tripod cases with tripods selling for a 6th as much as this Gitzo. The Gitzo product manager should be ashamed.

I wasn't able to fully inspect this tripod when I first purchased it so it was over 30 days before I was able to get around to extending the legs out fully and that's when one of the legs fell off! The leg was missing the inner white plastic pieces that made it "lock" when extended, and this was right after I'd bought it. Also, after a couple of months of use, the plastic pieces on another leg slipped off and I had TWO legs that came off. I'm not happy with Gitzo right now. Beware.

Broke

Comments about Gitzo GT2531LVL Series 2 Carbon Fiber Leveling Tripod:

Day 5 on a doc shoot, legs extenders jammed and unscrewed completely. The result was one leg fell off as I was setting up a shot and when it jammed I couldn't lower as low as I needed. I was rough with them, like all my tripods but this has never happened with any other tripod I've used.

Very light though and was nice when it worked.

honestly feels like it was crafted from heavens blacksmith. the tilting assembly, like another reviewer mentioned, it protected by a thing stretchy dental dam type rubber, that's probably the only thing that doesnt seem to be perfect. even the tripod smells good. extremely light and sturdy.

i use it with a slider directly on it

Comments about Gitzo GT2531LVL Series 2 Carbon Fiber Leveling Tripod:

I got the Gitzo GT2531lvl based on the excellent reviews I saw about Gitzo tripods in general. I use it for my KOWA spotting scope and for photograpy. It is as stable and vibration free as stated in the reviews. I am very satisfied with it.

I use this with several cameras and a Kirk BH-3 ballhead. The leveling feature is very helpful in shooting multiframe panoramas, and the height is exactly right for my 5'8" frame. The carbonfiber-and-magnesium construction is light and strong.

Comments about Gitzo GT2531LVL Series 2 Carbon Fiber Leveling Tripod:

Smooth and light. Beautifully made, but too much on the "fiddly-bit" side of things. Not quite up to what I expected for Gitzo. Came with $ "rebate" but I have to spend only on another Gitzo product - what can a person buy from Gitzo for $ that's worth anything? Stupid, lame, worthless rebate program.

          Gitzo #GT2531LVL Leveling tripod.

Comments about Gitzo GT2531LVL Series 2 Carbon Fiber Leveling Tripod:

Excellent tripod. Intergraded leveling plate is a great addition to an already excellent tripod, and is a great help in setting up quickly on uneven ground in the field. Have owned a Gitzo #GT2541LLVL for a couple of years now, having had great results with it in the field. I decided to purchase the #GT2531LVL after finding the need for another tripod. An expensive tripod no dough about it! But, an especially good purchase with the large rebate recently offered by Gitzo. (Even if it does take 8 to 10 weeks, or more to receive your rebate from the Rebate Center that Gitzo is now using, to my dismay!)
The tripod is well built with several nice features that I've come to expect from Gitzo. Only you can decide weather the large outlay of cash is worth it for any top end high quality product like a Gitzo tripod? I have been using Gitzo tripods for six(6)+ years now. With all the Gitzo tripods I now own [12]; I have had only one(1) minor problem with one of them that needed attention. (I am a Birding Guide with a lot of different manufacture's Demo spotting scopes for people to try out. So I need, and use a lot of tripods!) And I use [3] of the large Gitzo Systematic Series 5 tripods for all my Birding & wildlife photography work. When only the very best will do, I always turn to a Gitzo!

Comments about Gitzo GT2531LVL Series 2 Carbon Fiber Leveling Tripod:

I travel a great deal, and the Gitzo levelling tripod has proved to be the best all-round tripod for my needs. The speed of opening the legs, and folding up, the ability to quickly level for panoramic photography, coupled with the light weight, makes it a very suitable choice for me. The carbon fibre legs also resist extremes in temperatures, and vibrations.

So I am very pleased with it.

Comments about Gitzo GT2531LVL Series 2 Carbon Fiber Leveling Tripod:

I have a Gitzo 3541XLS and Sachtler FSB-8 head for shooting video but was looking for a more compact and lightweight solution for overseas travel when every ounce of extra weight in the bag counts. I looked at several vendors' solutions for leveling bases that can be attached to standard tripods, but the integrated nature of the Gitzo 2531LVL won out in the end. That combined with the Gitzo build quality put this solution above the rest. The level feature is very solid when locked off and very easy to adjust. So far it's stable enough to produce usable pans with the Manfrotto MVH500AH (which is a usable head, but just barely.) The only concern I have is that Gitzo appears to have used a very thin rubber membrane to seal off the leveling ball in the center column. Time will tell if this holds up to the elements. It's the only element on the tripod that feels rather fragile.

Comments about Gitzo GT2531LVL Series 2 Carbon Fiber Leveling Tripod:

Exceedingly expensive but it is an excellent tripod. The tripod is faster to fold up than the older versions which is a tradeoff for not having the infinite adjustment of the 2228 and like tripods.

Quick leveling is not as easy as with the Manfrotto 755 tripod but it works though taking more time to get perfectly level.

Center column can be reversed or removed and it also has a hook that can be pulled out from the column and to which a camera bag or other weight can be attached. The hook is also to secure the head when the column is removed so the tripod legs can be splayed out and the head is then 5 inches off the ground. Not the most elegant approach but it does work. It is not as good as the old 2228 or the Benbo tripods for this use.

New anti-twist columns are a big improvement. It no longer takes two hands to lock and extend a leg and relock it.

Gitzo advise not to use the tripod around salt water which is odd for a carbon fiber tripod, but something to consider if you wanted to use it at the beach.

The leveling feature makes landscape and multi-image panoramas much easier. On a recent trip to Jackson this made getting a level base on rough terrain much. much easier than with a conventional tripod. I'm sold on the leveling feature.

Very stable tripod with built-in leveling. Adequate up to 70-300mm zoom lens. It is a pity that the tripod bag sold to go with this tripod is an excessively tight fit at the leveling control lever; otherwise it is excellent, lightweight and well-finished.
