Hoya UV, high density, filter

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

After using these filters for years I tried a less expensive brand X. Although it did a good job of filtering haze and I'm sure protecting my lens it scratched very easily. I did not get a full two years use from it. (I do put my filters to quite the test.) The Hoya filters I put into use seven years ago are still to show their first scratch. A fine filter and in the long run much less expensive than the lower priced ones.

Does the job that it was purchased for

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I purchased this filter to protect the front glass of my $2000 Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L IS lens. It fit well and screwed on smoothly. I like the thin frame on the filter - less bulky is always better to me. Only negative was that I thought it was just a little bit pricey for a UV filter. I expected to pay about $10 less, but decided to go with this filter instead of the low budget ones.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I got this filter for my new Sigma 17-50mm and I like its performance. I did not find any difference in IQ with or without filter even at pixel by pixel magnification. Moreover, I feel it reduces glare when shooting against the Sun. Its difficult to repeat for the full comparison, so it is my feeling only.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I often take photographs in a dusty environment and I consider the UV filter to be cheap insurance to protect the fore-optic of my lenses. I had previously purchased an off-brand UV filter (not from B&H) and when I took a few photographs with a shallow depth of field I noticed a series of repeating light-gray/dark-gray lines running through the soft focus portions of the image. After performing a few test & convincing myself that the lines were caused by the filter. After I purchased the Hoya HD and I am happy to report that I no longer have the optical aberrations. Bottom line, my $2000 lens is protected and my pictures are sharp.

I use the Hoya HD on all my lenses.
My sister borrowed my camera, and dropped it lens down 4+ feet to a tile/concrete floor. The filter ring bent but nothing broke. Camera & lens are fine. I did replace the filter, but still have it as a backup.
Very well made, clean easily and now tested tough.
I use the Hoya HD polarizer & ND filters too.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I started out using UV filters more so for lens protection, rather than improving my image quality. However, I notice a difference when using this filter. A UV filter is a good, everyday filter to have, and I leave mine on all my lenses. It also works well with other filters.

        Eventually you forget it's there.

All outdoor, and event Photographers should use this filter. It has excellent optics and 4X the strength of normal filters. You paid a lot for that good glass, you need to protect it.

While there is a lot of disagreement re: filters to protect lenses, I believe that spending a little more for a good filter is the way to go in order to have a little insurance for a expensive lens. This HD filter has not disappointed me.
