I bought this product to protect my company's presentation materials that are shipped multiple times throughout the year, all over the country. I have owned and used many different Pelican products in the past and have never been disappointed; they are virtually indestructable.

The only real drawback to this case is that it doesn't have a side handle. A side handle would make this case much easier to load and unload from a vehicle.

Pros:

- Extremely well built and durable.
- Foam can be customized to fit a variety of items.
- Has wheels for easier transport.
- Lockable.

Cons:

- Doesn't have a side handle (the only reason for the 4 stars).
- A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Typical excellent Pelican construction.... BUT, with one very fatal flaw in my opinion. There is ONLY handles on either end, no handle in the middle. This makes handling and loading this case extremely awkward, to downright difficult. I am 6' 4", and can barely extend my arms wide enough to reach both handles, and even still this is a nearly impossible way to try to lift the case without destroying your back if there is much weight in it. As it is designed now, it really takes two people to easily and safely move it. Too bad, if it had a handle in the middle, I would have given it 5 stars as it's perfect for my lightstands in every other way!

Great case for light stands, flat panel lights and misc.

Comments about 1740 Transport Case with Foam (Black):

I am traveling on planes with this case right now. 1 Manfrotto 756B tripod, MVH502AH Head, MX2000 tripod, four small light stands, 2 Genaray Essential 240 flat panel lights with power cables, 2 umbrellas, Westcott Reflector Arm, small tool bag, 2 grip heads with Articulating arm, and it all fits!

I wish the foam held up better after taking everything in and out but that is to be expected. I took the plastic identifier off the front because I knew the baggage handlers would break it right away. Great case though, great strong wheels. The baggage handlers and TSA have really tried to beat this up and it already has dings and dents on it after being on six flights but everything is safe inside and the case is not compromised at all.

Getting in and out of cabs in the city has been easy. The driver grabs one end, I grab the other and we lift it in and out so easily. I even had to go into a building that did not have a ramp so I wheeled it up 12 steps, no problem.

Pelican cases are the best!

Nice Case but if you are going to fly with it you will only have 20 pounds to work with unless you plan to pay extra.

We are a Prototype shop in California and shipping very expensive models and prototypes around the world.
Never ever had any issue with any shippments using the Pelican Cases.
The pick and plug foam makes it easy and secure to custom pack our items.
The case is very rugget and the snap lock is very secure.

Use this for my tripods, minigib, and light stands. Works great for flying and compact. Whats useful is that you can take out the layers of foam or customizes it any way you wish. You can't go wrong with Pelican. Could really use a center handle...

I'm using this case as my new lighting case for stands and grip heads plus all of my LED lights.

These cases are great and now great is even better with a new design on the latches. Just as strong, but now you don't have to be. You could be nursing a sprained wrist and still do up all the latches on this new design.

I will be getting another one in a different config.

I needed to transport tripods, stands, lighting equipment, etc. This case did the trick my equipment was well protected, but lugging it around through airports was a pain. I was lucky on my flight out I only paid a $25 bag fee with 61 pounds total weight (most airlines charge $25 for 50 pounds max), however on the way back the flight check in person was not so kind and charged me $100 for the 61 pounds.

          Needs a side handle

Comments about 1740 Transport Case with Foam (Black):

It's a Pelican case - plastic protection perfection, not much else to say. However, as another reviewer states it REALLY REALLY needs a side handle. I often fly alone and this carries all my tripods, light stands, monopods, slider, etc., and it's so awkward getting it off the baggage claim, on and off shuttles, and into rental cars. There's really no where to grab and get a grip if you're trying to man-handle this thing alone. I didn't take a star off because the product does what it describes, it could just be improved upon.

I just received this case and was disappointed since I wanted to use if to accommodate my strobe, ION Converter, battery, cables and the tripod for the light. Well the tripod did not fit but, the rest of the equipment fit. Now I am going to have to get the Pelican 1780 to see if my gear fit. On the good side, since I travel first class American Airline will not charge me for oversize but, the weight of the gear and what's inside may exceed the 70 lbs. limit for first class passengers.

I am using this case to hold my large camera lens and it seems to work great. More than enough room to hold a 600 mm and 300 mm camera lens with room to spare. It's easy to customize the foam lining to fit everything.

I bought this case to transport my photography gear on a plane. With the foam cut to my gear I can get 4 monolights, cords, 4 stands, 3 umbrellas, and a soft box, plus speed ring and umbrella mounts to fit inside this case. Looks like the whole thing weighs about 80lbs. So I'm under the 100lb limit for additional luggage. I would recommend this case.

It's a Pelican. What else can I say? It's built like a brick $#!+house and able to take the beating that the boys doing luggage duty at O'Hare International Airport dish out.I removed the foam and then loaded this thing with 2 of my 10'x20' backdrops, 2 complete backdrop stands, my camera tripod, 2 rolls of gaffer tape, a few HD extension cords, a zip bag with 3 light stands for my Speedlights and 3 umbrellas, a plug-in powerstrip and enough hand clamps to pin my impatient client to his desk chair. The case swallowed it all and snugly snapped shut. Weighed in at 100 lbs on the United Airlines luggage scale. Skycap got a hernia lifting it onto the conveyor belt. No problem. I know my stuff is protected. It's a Pelican. What else can you say?
