I use my gear mainly for professional work, but I also still have fun with personal photography projects too. This Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VRII lens when attached to my Nikon D600 is an excellent combination for capturing everything from the action at a sporting event to beautiful images of a family against the sunset or a young couple in love! The versatility of the f/2.8 aperture in low light situations, like at a High School Football game, allows for excellent results with sharpness and clarity that I was not able to achieve with my other zoom lenses (70-300 f/3.5-5.6) on this camera! I also ordered the Nikon D750 and received a substantial discount that made the purchase of these two amazing pieces of equipment that much sweeter! The staff at B&H were excellent to work with - knowledgeable and service oriented! The fast and free delivery was an extra bonus that I was not expecting! So, thank you B&H for helping to make my transaction excellent while helping me to save a substantial amount of money!

The three stars are a warning. This is the most agonizing lens I have ever owned. First, the good news. The image quality is superb. The autofocus on my D700 is dead on perfect. Color, contrast, and bokeh are all outstanding, with good sharpness at 2.8. The lens is a joy to use, quick and responsive, and the updated VR is excellent. I've made great shots handheld at 1/15 sec. which I never thought would be possible. This is a great improvement over the older version. Now the bad news. If you want tight head shots, forget it. Nikon has played a clever trick on us. At a working distance of 6 feet with the lens set at 200mm, the actual focal length is shortened to about 140mm. At 10 feet, its about 160mm. You can look it up, this information is all over the internet. You have to set focus over 35 feet away to get a true focal length of 200mm. By contrast, the older version of this lens only shortens to about 198mm. You have to decide for yourself whether or not this is a deal breaker for you. More importantly, my current copy is the third one I tried. I had to return two others to get one that worked right. The others produced images with noticeable blur along the right edge, and had a hot spot in the center (thank Lloyd Chambers for bringing this to everyone's attention). [...] In the end, I decided to keep the lens for its versatile zoom range. Besides, Nikon users just don't have any other options without going to third party lenses. I suggest that anyone considering this lens test it rigorously before accepting it.

Simply the best option

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens:

If only it were lighter, it would be perfection. VR works great Low light focusing is flawless. I am a pro shooter and I earn money with this lens shooting events - lots of speakers on stages, PJ shots of event guests interacting without needing to be obtrusive or crop-heavy in post.

It is worth every penny when a contract is on the line!!

A little heavy but a solid lens. Fast and versatile. I opted to buy this over the E version to save $700. Have not been disappointed at all.

Love! I got this lens to shoot a large wedding and have been playing around with it in the mean time. The quality is top notch and makes gorgeous photos. I'm so glad I spent the extra money to get the f2.8, because that short DOF makes everything pop. This is now one of my go-to lenses.

Best Glass I Own

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens:

This must be one of the best glass made by Nikon. Besides its outstanding optical performance, this lens nails focus every time (even when I use AF-C) and is built like a tank (it once fell from a tripod and it had not a single scratch). Btw, the IS is a saver for most handheld shots. What can I say more? It's a little heavy but worth every penny. Perfect lens when you need a longer focal distance.

This lens focuses very fast. I had previously purchased a Tamron 70-200mm to save money. The Tamron focused very slowly.

Amazing Lens & Great Price

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens:

I had to replace my previously destroyed 70-200 2.8 II with the same model. May not breath (200mm setting at 6 ft, where it closer to 135mm) as well as the newer version, however at several hundred dollars less then the new lens 70-200 2.8E, I know the limitations and amazing quality of this lens. Image quality and stability is first class.

Wow, I love this lens. I had a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and it was great but the Nikon lens is so much more. It is faster focusing and the clearness is by far the best I have seen. I can imagination the quality of the new lens by Nikon.

Amazing Lens

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens:

This is an amazing lens. For the few pictures that I have taken with it so far the images are tack sharp and color reproduction is spot on. The VRII is great, I intentionally shook the camera while taking a few shots and the image was clear. All in all the lens is all that I expected and more.

I would have given 5 stars, but on further inspection of the lens (this was a used item) I noticed that both front and rear pieces of glass there was dust and sticky dirt on them. I would assume that these two pieces of glass would have been inspected and cleaned before shipping. Maybe they were and I could understand some dust, but sticky spots on the other hand, not so sure.

All in all very great lens and will still shop B&H in the future.

Use my gear mainly for birds in flight, sunsets and night photography. The Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 when used with my D800 has produced amazing results. The color and sharpness is unbelievable. This my first high end lens and I cannot believe what I have missed. The cost is worth every penny for the quality and improvement I am receiving in my photos. Low light is not a problem. My final photos are in a totally higher class. Anyone considering a cheaper lens because of cost, spend the extra and get the high end photos you are looking for.

Great Lens

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens:

A great purchase for me especially because of my low light photography for the local symphony. Much brighter lens than my 28-300 f4.5. I'm now able to take advantage of higher shutter speeds and faster f2.8 aperture creating more appealing photos. The 70-200 f2.8 is extremely sharp and quick focusing. Since my purchase it's been the only lens I use for my symphony photos. No need to take anything else in the bag.
