I am a hobby photographer and over the course of 6 years or so, have accumulated a decent pile of gear. I have been using a LowePro Nova 4 AW shoulder bag for the past couple years and it has been great, but it was running short on space. I couldn't carry my speedlight in its case, I couldn't carry my monopod and I couldn't carry my Sigma 150-500. This bag carries EVERYTHING!

I was looking for a backpack style bag and since 4 of the 5 camera bags I own currently are LowePro, I wanted to stick with a winner. Based on my space needs, feature requirements and price, I settled on either the Pro Runner 300 or 350. Based on web reviews and pictures, I was unable to decide. I called a local retailer to verify both were in stock, which they were. Off to make a side by side comparison I went. In person, there were a few differences not noticeable online. The primary difference is the 350 has a laptop pouch in the back. While I don't plan on carrying a laptop, there are other differences which pushed me to the 350. The shoulder straps on the 350 are roughly double the thickness of the 300, and the top carry handle has a rubber handle instead of just the strap. I assume LowePro thinks if you are going to carry a laptop in addition to your camera gear the bag will weigh more, and made these changes with that in mind.

I saw one other review that said the 350 was too big and they went with the 300. They are basically the same exact size. I think the 350 is probably a bit thicker than the 300 because of the laptop compartment, but other than that, they are basically the same. The bags are NOT large. I would rank them with your basic school backpack.

My two biggest needs for the bag were to carry my monopod and my Sigma 150-500mm lens. I brought them both with me to store and found that the lens fits fine, even with the hood. This is a LARGE lens. The length with filter and both covers is just over 10" long and the lens body is 3.7" in diameter. The hood is almost 5" in diameter. It fits nicely in a side compartment with all the dividers removed. It doesn't bulge out the side, but it does push into the center compartment just a bit. Without the hood, it fits perfectly. The bag is designed with an integral tripod holder on the outside in the front center, but I found I can place my monopod under a compression strap and into the mesh pouch on the side of the bag, thus leaving the tripod mount available for a tripod. Of course it also fits neatly into the tripod holder. The 350 also has an additional clip strap on the top of the bag to secure a tripod while the 300 does not.

I don't plan on carrying a laptop in this bag so I can't and won't comment on that feature. The goal of this review was to point out the differences between the Pro Runner 300 and 350 BESIDES the laptop pouch on the 350. The super thick shoulder straps, the additional tripod strap and rubberized top carry handle sealed the deal for me.

The gear I carry in this bag

Center compartment - Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-200mm lens attached / Black Rapid RS5 sling
Right Compartment - Sigma 150-500mm lens / lens hood for 18-200
Left Compartment - Nikkor 35mm Prime / Micro Nikkor 60mm prime / SB700 Speedlight in case

The monopod is strapped to the outside and the battery charger, filters, manuals and various other things are stored in the multitude of pockets in this bag. Highly recommended.

I am a professional photographer so I have many different backpacks, rollers, and slingshots.
What I like about the Pro Runner 350 is that its a perfect fit for my body type. It also fits my two Canon SLR's with many of my flashes and Lenses. I also like how my 15inch laptop fits in the back.
The only thing I did not like about this was the strings on the backpack. My main zipper string fell off only a few days after I bought it. It may have been because i was trying to fit too much into the bag but I found this very disappointing and thought it should be stronger.

Great Value-lots of space

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW Backpack:

Plenty of storage space. Carried a Nikon D5300, a Nikon 200-500 lens, a 55-300 lens, and the stock lens that came with the camera and still had room for a point and shoot and compact binoculars used for wildlife watching. Would highly recommend for the amateur enthusiast like myself. Front pocket had plenty of room for a thin laptop in a case, not just a notebook.

GREAT BACKPACK!

By Larry

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW Backpack:

This backpack is exactly what I needed to pack all of my photographic equipment in one place. I have room for my D7200 w/ a 18-300 lens and several other lenses used in a variety of situations. I always had to leave a lens or two behind because of no room. No more! I even have room to haul my 50-500 Sigma just in case I need the extra reach.
As for comfort, this pack is wonderful. The padded shoulder straps and waist belt work very well. It keeps the weight well supported and comfortable on long hikes. My Manfroto tripod fit the supplied carrier very well and gave me easy access when needed. Haven't used the supplied rainfly yet but it appears it will function very well.. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW Backpack:

The Mini Trekker AW has been my goto back for 7 years and starting to show some signs of wear and I started to shop for a replacement. I tried the CompuTrekker and found it too heavy, rigid and bulky because I am not a big person.

I have been using the CompuTrekker for about 18 months now. The CompuTrekker has the laptop sleeve on the front away from the body. So unless you use a macbook air or something very light, it does feel heavy. I use mbp. This is not the case with the Pro Runner 350. Also, the padding on the computer pocket is not overly thick and is comfy with or without laptop.

It is not as soft as the Mini Trekker. Like many would say, Mini Trekker can fit a lot more than one would think because of its softness. Pro Runner 350 can easily take two pro bodies, 70-200mm, 24-70mm mounted, 17-35mm, two flashes, batteries, cables, laptop, pass, etc. I often squeeze one more lens in. ;)

The strap is more substantial than the Mini Trekker and feels comfortable. They haven't collapsed like the CompuTrekker ones which were really plush but loses its plushness or foam volume pretty quick. I love the laptop pocket being close to the body. It makes the bag "feel" lighter than if it were on the front.

My only rant about it include: (1) the top handle is rubberised. From experience, it will crack and can be painful when it does and catches your skin in the crack. (2) the clips on the front of the bag can easily catch something and loosen up.

These are very minor rant. I love this bag and it is my go to bag nowadays because it can carry more than the Mini Trekker and it takes the laptop as well. Must say I don't usually carry it on my back all day like I used to with Mini Trekker though.

    Great bag all in all

    By Joel

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW Backpack:

Even though it's now discontinued, I thought I'd review this bag after owning it for 4 years. I use it mostly for weddings every weekend and for other various jobs. It's very well put together with excellent stitching and durable nylon that has stood the test of time with little to no fraying. The zippers rarely catch and are also quite robust. Well padded and holds my gear securely too. The cons I have may include: weak Velcro on the interior that deteriorates if you change the configuration too often, which I do. Also, the pulls on the zippers disintegrated after 3 years. I'm now using zip ties to pull them open and closed. The padding is comfortable on my back but some ventilation would be appreciated. Great bag all in all.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW Backpack:

Wonderful storage for my camera equipment. Though it is larger than I was expecting. I travel a lot via airplane and I am concerned that it may be too bulky for overhead storage on regional jets. And I don't want to gate check my camera equipment. The backpack is quite versatile, but there was no documentation with it that tells you about the different features. I guess the manufacturer assumes that the buyer will know everything about it. There was an attachment for a tripod that I had to take into a local camera shop in order to know how to use it. By exploring the backpack I keep finding new little compartments and ultimately found what I think is a built in rain cover. It would have been nice to know about this from the manufacturer.

This is my first real camera back. External dimensions are perfect. Not as big from front to back as the 450, so it will fit in an overhead.

I'm carrying a D7000 w/ grip, Nikon 24-70 2.8, Tokina 11-16 2.8, Tamron 70-200 2.8, Nikon 35mm 1.8G, Nikon 18-200, 3.5-5.6(?), SB-700, a cleaning kit, and some other stuff in the main compartment and I have room to spare. The camera with grip is inserted sideways, card door up, and it fits PERFECTLY. I'll pull one or two lenses and carry my Tamron 150-600 if it ever shows up. I have a carbon monopod mounted the outside. There is misc other stuff in the outer compartment.

              I LOVE this bag and I'm glad I didn't get the 450.

Padding is nice and the craftsmanship and materials are awesome.

There were other small items, like an external hard drive. The bag is very well padded and you can move the padding in the main compartment. I may have overpacked it, but I like to be prepared.

For those who work with video both as camera operators and editors, this backpack will serve all your needs. There's a lot of room in it, you can change the compartments any way your desire and everything will be safe and sound, since this is a very strong backpack. Carrying all your lenses, cameras and notebook is possible, though it gets heavy.
I own a T3i, NEX-3N, and seven lenses, plus a MacBook Pro 15", and they all fit. It's great to finally be able to carry all my equipment in one bag, specially when you travel for work – this backpack can go with you as a carry-on bag on airplanes, though heavy.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW Backpack:

I bought this bag to carry my laptop and camera gear as checkin bag. I have a lowepro flipside 300. Thats my daily use bag. this is more like a long journey backpack for me, which I think it will serve the purpose. Also for the money, there is no better option to carry laptop, one or two dslrs and a couple of lens and speedlites.
the construction is sturdy, secure and a lot of pockets and compartments which will be really useful.
But Airline Restriction might be a problem for the backpack . the bag itself is around 2.1 KG (4.7Lbs). Some airlines have 7KG or less carry-in limitation. Which means, it will exceed the limit if you put a 15 inch Mac book pro, 5DMIII+Lens and one more small item. We will really have to work around it to use in airline.
Next, when it is filled, then its a little too heavy. But I don't see it a problem carry on your back as the straps are all designed to make it more comfortable.

Another drawback is the front open zipper.. means no easy access.
My take is, if you have a slig or flip side backpack, then this will be more of a travel backpack than a day to day back pack.

My camera gear outgrew my 200 AW which I loved and this seemed like a logical upgrade especially for the price point. Easily fits my Sigma 70-200, 2x teleconverter, 50mm, 18-135, 28-300 and all the other accessories. Very well padded laptop slot. Organized pockets and slots. I should be set for awhile now.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW Backpack:

I don't do a lot of traveling however for this occasion I needed a bag that will fit my 7D + 4 lenses + flash + diffuser + batterypacks/cables + 13' laptop and this bag did the job pretty well.

It's big and bulky but also has tons of room inside and the waist belt helped off load the weight from my shoulders.

It would be better if the straps were thinner.

For the price and number of times I'll use it, it's a good deal. Also it's carry-on size

                  Great Backpack

This bag is great. I fit a body with a 70-200 attached, a second body, a 16-35 lens, a 24-70 lens, a speedlight, and I have room for more. The pockets for extra gear push into the main space a little bit more than I expected. I carried the backpack around all day and my shoulders were fine.
