Was looking for a workhorse bag that fit me and my equipment comfortably. Tried shoulder bags but they left me listing to one side of the other. Tried Tamrac sling, but it was uncomfortable, not ergonomically well designed and did not allow for all my equipment.
After much searching, settled on this lowepro. Was able to fit my 5d MarkII with a battery grip, 70-2002.8L, 24-702.8L, 17-404.0L, all with lens hoods. Also, 100 2.8 macro and a 2x teleconverter in the main compartment. In the large and roomy top space, able to put 580 exII and mrII macro flash as well as filters an itouch and various other little accessories. The tripod holder held my manfrotto securely, and the built in rain cover worked great while hiking through the Costa Rican rain forest. When all straps secured and snug, the weight of the bag, over 26 pounds, was superbly distributed and left me exhausted from the day, but not strained from poorly distributed heavily weighted camera bag.
Ideally, I wish the bag itself was waterproof or at least the zipper seals, and the tripod strap needs to be secured to the bag itself. When not in use and if you forget to clip it closed, it can fall off. But only minor complaints considering how well this bag performed.

This bag has a small time look and feel, that can deliver big time storage in the field.

This bag has lots of compartments for lenses and your DSLR camera. Also included is a spot for a lens cleaning cloth and a seperate area for extra SD cards. That was a feature I hadn't considered but it was good that the manufacturers thought about it.

The compartment at the top of the bag is very good for personal items and housing additional equipment like a GoPro and it's various accessories. I also like the front pocket, which allows for writing utensils and holding the rain hood.

My issue thus far is the size. It is much larger than the description indicates and is very bulky. At this point, I haven't been on a shoot that requires a lot of equipment. When I do go on that type of photo shoot, I am concerned this bag may be difficult to use. The compartment for easy access to your camera doesn't seem easy--perhaps it will change after the bag is more broken in.

The shoulder harness seems a bit awkward but hopefully I'll get used to it.

This is very large bag, holds my camera and three lenses with plenty of room for batteries, charger, and other items. The outside pockets have plenty of room for a variety of items.

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

I am actually stuck with this bag (brand new, in the box), since I didn't try it within 30 days to see if it suits my needs or not. BH takes it back but I have to pay the shipping which is more than the bag costs. The bag is too big, bulky and uncomfortable. The cord that goes over your shoulder is not sewn in the best position so it causes discomfort on the neck.

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

I used the Slingshot 202 AW bag for several years but the zipper on the smaller pouch eventually failed so I had to get a new bag. I much prefer sling bags over backpacks because then one has instant access to one's camera's while moving. The 302 AW bag is essentially twice as wide as the 202 AW but all of the other dimensions are the same. It's definitely a lot larger bag to carry but so far, so good. Inside the main pouch, I have room for an extra flash and a couple of extra lenses. I will have to balance weight vs. convenience.

The largest sling bag I have seen

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

I ordered this bag because the first one I ordered was W-A-Y too small. This one is the polar opposite. I have to buy more stuff to fill it up.

It's bulky, but it's so much better to have too much room than not enough.

It Does NOT Function Like a Sling Bag - Inconvenient!

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

The bag is sturdy with many pockets and places for cards, hard drives, etc. However, and this is the deal breaker - It is NOT a sling bag as expected. In other words, it's a big as a regular backpack and more importantly, one cannot swing it from the back of one's body to your front and access lenses/cameras as you look down into the open bag, as all other slings bags are designed. Nope, you need to remove it from your body and lay it down somewhere to access the gear as if it were a regular shoulder bag, defeating the purpose of a sling bag. I'm returning it. Oh, and as I mentioned, it's BIG! I knocked over a plant while in a shoot! HA!

Great alternative to a shoulder bag

By Arkiphoto

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

After 50 years of shooting, my shoulders have had it. I was looking for a bag that would accommodate a DSLR and four to five lenses as a travel and walkabout kit, one that would distribute the weight better and minimize the stress on my shoulder. The SlingShot 302 seems to be well constructed, LowePro bags tend to be, but it is large, larger than one might expect. For my purposes this is a good thing. This bag can easily accommodate a gripped pro DSLR or something like a Canon 1DxII with no problems. The interior dividers are thicker than those in my Think Tank bags, I like that quite a bit. I don't get the sense that the lenses will bang together while I am walking around. Typically, a sling bag is used with a lens attached to the body. My only negative comment, and this is due to the size of the bag, is that there is a lot of space to the right and left of the body and I worry about it being jostled a bit. An elastic velcro strap that could better secure the camera for transport would be a good thing. Interestingly, there is one in the top compartment. A good place to secure a phone I would think.

As I write this I am carrying the Canon 5D IV with 24-70 F4 attached, a 16-35 F4, a Rokinon 12MM fisheye, a 90MM Tamron macro and a Canon 200MM 2.8. There is still room for another accessory like a Canon flash or a Rocket Air Blaster.

Complaints? Other than the lack of a securing strap for the camera body, the bag should have a better grab handle on the top and perhaps one on the side. Those two features would add the 5th star.

Nice Bag, Too Big For My Needs

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

This is a very nice bag with lots of space.  I received it as a gift but I'm returning it because it doesn't fit my needs.  It's too deep to hold my camera and lenses snugly so they don't move around.  I like this bag a lot and I've tried every different interior configuration imaginable but can't come up with a way to make it work for me.

Well made, and I expected it to be bulky.

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

I expected this bag to be big, I ordered it so I could hike with a large (70-200mm) lens attached to my camera. I've only had it a week, so haven't taken it out on a hike yet, but I did load it with the camera + lens and made adjustments so it rode like it a backpack. That meant tightening the shoulder strap all the way, until it rested above my hips. However, that made it sit high up in the middle of my chest when I slung it around to reach for my camera. In spite of the long lens, the camera body was a little lost in there and not easy to extract. If they made a model that had only one row of equipment holders instead of two, it would fit and work much better imo. I feell like there is an assumption that someone carrying a big lens is also going to be carrying a ridiculous amount of gear. I am 5'8", 160 lb woman in her 50s. Recommended only because it will hold a camera with a long lens attached.

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

Finding a bag that will fit all your gear for everyday carry or small photo gigs can be difficult. A lot of the nice bags are overpriced in my opinion...then I came across the Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag by browsing the Cyber Monday deals. I couldn't believe the price!

This bag allows me to carry:
- Canon 6d w/ 100mm Macro IS
- Sigma 35mm ART lens
- 3 speedlights
- radio trigger
- light meter
- card reader
- memory cards
- batteries
- rain cover for canon dslr + 70-200mm
- and I still have room for small accessories

Such a great bag for the price. I honestly couldn't find anything better and I have been looking on and off for about 3 months now. I am very happy with this purchase. I have finally found my "forever bag" :) no more buying camera bags and reselling them to find something better.

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

The SlingShot 302 is very uncomfortable to wear and does not function well as a sling pack. I wanted to return the product but discovered that the return shipping cost was almost equal to the cost of the SlingShot 302. I will not buy another product that does not offer free return shipping.

Not Really a "Sling Bag"

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

My then current sling bag was out of room for some new gear I was buying, so the very first page as I was looking for a replacement featured this bag at $50 off regular price, making it a fantastic deal for a bag of this size and quality.

If you consider a sling bag to be a bag that functions as both a backpack style and shoulder bag style, this doesn't quite fit the bill. It's more of a nice roomy backpack with quick access to a body and lens. However, if you want to use it as a shoulder bag, it's problematic because the compartments for lenses face outward, and you risk having them fall out of the bag if not careful.

I work with two bodies, so I don't plan on also using this bag when I'm working, so the above niggle isn't a true negative for me. The bag slings to the left side (another niggle if I were to use this as a shoulder bag) so it would be a bit uncomfortable for me to use it that way. So I'm content to use the bag for carrying a LOT of gear, for the following positive reasons.

It's well built with lots of nice features like a rain cover, a pocket to help support a tripod, good padding and an especially comfortable (for me) shoulder strap. (Another niggle: while it has a substantial hip/waist belt with padding, I would have preferred a cross-chest strap to keep the bag in place as body movement and gravity tend to cause it to shift. Again, because this is really a backpack, the waist belt makes sense.)

Lots of room. It really will hold a full frame camera with up to a 70-200 zoom attached, with plenty of compartments in the main section for additional lenses and flash. Since I shoot m4/3, it has even more room for 2 Olympus EM1 bodies (1 with lens attached), my 50-200 zoom, flash and some flash accessories. There's still slots left for lenses I plan on purchasing in the future, which is one reason why I bought the bag. I think I've found all the various pockets and such, but maybe not. Lowepro has tucked things into corners to optimize the ability to carry all those little extras you end up wanting to have handy. Only thing not allowed for with this bag is carrying a laptop, or even a larger tablet. I can lay my 9.5" tablet on top of the lens section if need be, but I would have like a slot specifically for it, or a laptop, as is usually found in bags this size.

That lack of dedicate space for a tablet/laptop, and the inability to really use it as a shoulder bag, are the only reasons I didn't give it 5 stars.

Entire Camera Kit for my carry on!

By Robin

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

I previously used and loved the 200AW version of this bag which became too small as my camera kit grew especially to travel with. Now I can take entire lens kit plus essential accessories: D700 + 70-200 2.8 attached with tripod foot; 50mm 1.4; 85mm 1.4; 20mm 1.8; 24mm 1.8; 16-35mm 4; 24-70mm 2.8; TC-14Eii; TC-20Eiii; MC36 cable release; HoodMan Loop; MB-D10 battery pack, spare battery and chargers/cables; plus several misc items with room to spare for travel goodies like headlamp, phone, ear buds, etc. Gitzo GT1555T travel tripod + head easily on the outside. Price drop at B&H was a no brainer. No it's not as fashionable looking as current models and brands, but functionality cannot be beat and it's easily within strictest carry on size (not weight when loaded of course).

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

When the bag arrived I thought it was way too big for what I needed. But then I put my equipment in it and am so glad I bought this. Held all my equipment and had room for my phone and some other small items. Love it. Just wish there was a way to remove the waist strap since I won't be using it.

I'm a loyal user of LowePro products. I have six camera bags, two vests and numerous pouches. I purchased this bag on a whim because in was a Black Friday special. I'm so thrilled I made the purchase. I love this bag. It's super comfortable and easy to access. I use it with a Nikon D3 with a 80-200/2.8 mounted, when I shoot basketball games. Great design by LowePro!

I'm in love with the slingshot!

By Michele

Comments about Lowepro SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag:

I had a Lowepro bag, top opening & had a convenient strap that allowed me to attach it to my belt. Unfortunately, the zippers broke & it is useless. It was a really tight fit for my Nikon D750, 28-150, 200- 400, & a 90 mm macro lens. I couldn't include any if my speed lights. The Slingshot easily handles all that with TONS of room to spare. The top compartment can be used for accessories, I fit 6 speedlights easily. There are small compartments in several areas that are great for memory cards. It's very comfortable to wear & the strap that goes around the waist makes it feel very stable, yet you can easily access from either side. There is so much to love & SO much room. I was worried it would be too small, but it's perfect! My only concern us I hope the zippers hold up better than they did in my old bag, it was less than a year old when they started to fail, but I stayed with Lowepro because I have several of their other bags & love them as well!
