With two of these in my T2i's battery grip, I am confident that I'll be shooting for a long time. With only one (in the body), I was amazed at the life, even when the camera had sat for a few weeks. As an owner of several Canon products, I have to say that the power consumption characteristics are very good, and I believe that using Canon brand batteries is probably the best way to maximize my cameras' capabilities.

I have three (3) LP-E8 batteries that I purchased to use with my T5i. Each battery has been charged using Canon's LC-E8E charger, and the charger has indicated each battery was fully charged. However, when I put a battery in the camera it registers only 2/3 charged. That 2/3s charge gave me enough juice to shoot 43 stills this morning, but not enough to transfer those files to my computer. I purchased extra Canon batteries for the T5i, even though I had used non-Canon batteries in my T2i, and 70D, and never had any problems with those batteries, or my cameras' performance. I've never had a lithium battery that wouldn't fully charge, and am especially disappointed because I thought Canon made a battery that was at least as good, if not better than a 3rd party like Watson, or Pearstone. Before I buy more batteries I'll try a 3rd party charger to see if it's able to pack the LP-E8s better than the Canon charger.

It did need to be charged up. I was told that from the beginning that it would. I'm glad it is a Canon and not a Chinese knock-off. I'm sure these batteries will be very reliable.

B&H to the rescue

Comments about Canon LP-E8 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.2V, 1120mAh):

After purchasing several "genuine" batteries off fleaBay, I finally decided to make sure I got the real thing. Not prepared to risk damaging my camera gear, or worse, having the charger and battery burst into flames, so it was B&H to the rescue. Hate how expensive these things are when you know how little they cost to manufacture (so they get 4 stars not 5). I guess Canon has you over the barrel on that.

Lesson learned - always buy OEM or equivalent...

By Pete Mueller

Comments about Canon LP-E8 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.2V, 1120mAh):

OEM camera batteries (or an approved equivalent from a reputable dealer) aren't cheap. Like a lot of you (I assume...), I've bought my share of "affordable" batteries from other sources (i.e. on-line auction site) at prices almost too good to be true. The truth is I should have used that money on quality non-knockoff product, or a bottle of wine. The knockoffs are complete counterfeits with identical packaging, product labeling... and almost no way of knowing they're fakes until it comes to actual battery life / number of shots.
Here's where the rubber hits the road (numbers not actual data, just for illustrative purposes); if let's say with the $20 counterfeit I was getting 40 shots before failure, with the OEM I am getting 280. 7 times the difference. However, pricewise the OEM was only 2.5 times more expensive. Considering the inconvenience, number of batteries necessary needed to have on hand, risk of missing a shot, and just the frustration of "Darn! Battery dead again?!!" (substitute darn with a much more forceful word) I've learned my lesson. Always, always by the quality battery. This one counts...
