First off - the head will accept your existing Arcatech-compatible plates. I use a Kirk L-bracket on my D610 with a grip and it works fine with the Gorillapod ballhead QR. I bought this for shooting cathedral and other interiors on a recent trip to Italy; I knew many places would discourage full-size tripods. The Gorillapod did just fine. Pictures below are 100% crops from a shot in the Doge palace in Venice, a 1/2-second exposure with the Gorillapod placed on a bench, holding a D610, battery grip, Kirk L-bracket, and Nikkor 16-35 f4 lens. (Shot at f16, ISO 800, 22mm) I don't see anything I'd call camera shake. I've used it with my 24-120 f4 and 70-200 f2.8 as well (all with the D610+grip). I've also use this as a "handheld tripod" - put the camera on the Gorillapod, then held the Gorillapod against a wall or column to get a rock-solid shot.Another big plus for the Gorillapod is it fits in my Lowepro Pro Messenger 180 bag. The feet stick out the top, but the Gorilla, D610+grip w/lens, a 2nd lens (e.g. 17-35 f4 or 70-200 f2.8) all fit; or the gorilla, camera w/lens, 17-35 f4 and SB-700 flash all fit.

I had so much hop for this tripod and saw good reviews, also noticed that some vloggers have been using this tripod for a long time and were happy with it. So, on the second day of my Maui vacation, one leg came out of the socket after lifting the tripod and my 60D from the ground and no matter what I tried, I could not put it back in. I will return this and I am not sure whether I am ready for another one hoping this was a lemon. $100 for this?

Good portable tripod. The feet lose grip on smooth surfaces. e.g. Granite countertops. I haven't tried it out on railings yet. Casey's review reflects my comment above.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus/Ballhead X Bundle (Black/Gray):

I now have two of these. I keep one in my backpack when I bike or hike. It is also great when shooting video and I want to put a camera somewhere that a full size tripod won't fit (like on a table or shelf). I also have one of the next smaller size down. It is fine for my gh4 but this one is better for my dslr. I prefer this one for both actually.

For my use, I regret the purchase. Not as sturdy as I anticipated. May be fine for mirrorless, but not for DSLR. Got a robust table-top tripod instead.

I love this bendy tripod. I'm not too sure how long it will stay stiff but I will report back when it gets loose, if it ever does. But this thing is amazing for vlogging!

I've use this with my canon 5d and iPhones... and it's awesome!
It's size makes it easy to maneuver for those difficult angles... and it attaches securely to most posts and railings, circumference permitting...

Haven't trusted it to hold my DSLR in any risky positions so it's pretty useless to me.

So far I love this tripod - used it both for filming and photos - works well. Good alternative to classic tripod(I have one from Manfrotto - works good for me too), also you can easily carry it in hand luggage while travelling. You can use it in so many ways that usual tripod can't do - lot of creativity required and I like it.

This tripod is amazing. It is very practical and easy to use. This is not a complete replacement for a full size tripod, but it sure helps you to take good shots and videos.

The gorilla pod is an amazing 10 in 1 tripod. It is capable of enabling you to complete a plethora of awkward, weird, cool shots that a ordinary tripod won't not allow. I haven't had any issues with the gorilla pod.

I used the Gorillapod while photographing
The Indian Ocean in Durban, Siuth Africa. Night photography worked well. I used a Canon 5D Mark III and a 24-70 f2.8 L zoom lens. The Gorillapod held my gear on a railing off a veranda. Felt solid.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus/Ballhead X Bundle (Black/Gray):

I've only had this tripod a short time but already it has proved very useful. It is a little stiff to bend, but that is better than being too loose. It works well to hold the camera steady, even when the ball head is tilted all the way down so that the camera is pointing down. I got it use with my Canon EOS Rebel T6i and it has worked pretty well so far. I know it is designed for heavier cameras, but I wanted the extra stability and it should also work for any future camera that I might get. The mounting plate works well and seems to hold my camera steady. Also beyond the designed uses, it should be able to double as a handheld or shoulder mounted camera rig if needed. I haven't put that to the test but by trying out different configurations of the legs, it seems pretty versatile. Time will show if it holds up in the long run but so far it seems to be a very solid and quality tripod. The metal parts make for a good solid construction. I had already planned to write this review but I was told to disclose that in doing so, I will also be entered in a drawing for $1000. But that has nothing to do with what I have to say about this product. It seems to be a good tripod and if you want something small, portable, and sturdy, check out this product.

Leave the regular standard tripod at home !

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus/Ballhead X Bundle (Black/Gray):

This Gorillapod is meant for heavier cameras, Like mirrorless or DSLR's the lighter weight ones don't stand up well under a heavy load. They are fine for attaching to object like chairs. Excellent for travel. Just stick it in your luggage and you have it if you need it.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus/Ballhead X Bundle (Black/Gray):

I figured if I was going to test the strength of the GorillaPod Focus and the optional Joby ball head, I was going to test it with the heaviest gear I have. So in a box big enough to hold the GorillaPod and my gear, I attached a Nikon 200-400mm f/4 VR II to a Nikon D810 having an L-bracket with the legs separated about the angle of a standard tripod (I even went so far as to tilt the lens forward about 20 degrees) and padded the box with some fluffy pillows on 4 sides with about 3 inches of clearance all around everything. From the bottom of the GorillaPod to the lens foot was around 13.5 inches. My rationale was that if anything sagged or broke, there wouldn't be such a gap in cushioning that I would ruin $10,000 worth of gear. Four hours later and NOTHING MOVED!

I then tried the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II and my lightest lens, the 16mm f/2.8 fisheye, in a portrait orientation on various flat and textured surfaces. The GorillaPod tipped over immediately because of the off-centre weight distribution (as I expected), but I found that if I held the legs and pushed into the surface (like a sandbag attached to the pin of the centre column of a standard tripod), the shots were very sharp and still better than hand-holding.

I then tried a setup like the picture of the camera and GorillaPod attached to a post. Having no post readily available, I wrapped it around the arm rest of a faux leather office chair with the 70-200mm in portrait orientation, thus simulating a fence railing on the side of a highway. It was a little wobbly because the GorillaPod legs do not wrap the arm rest perfectly; however, I could brace the legs with one hand and spin the chair with the other while taking a shot every 30 degrees or so and using the overlap to create a tack sharp 360 degree panorama in Photoshop.
