I got this for a April '09 Mac Pro with the Xeon 2.23 Ghz processor (apparently this IS a "nehalem" processor, which isn't clear from looking at the information the computer gives me). So far, it works great positioned about 15 yards from the wireless router (Verizon FIOS) located a floor above.

The only gripe is the lack of installation instructions, which I understood would be the case from my reviews of Mac discussion boards ahead of time. Turns out, it wasn't really that hard. You need to remove the processor deck (easy). The first hard part was getting the card in place with the antenna wires there - they tend to obstruct what you're doing. The screws were easy with the computer turned on its side. The hardest part was attaching the antenna wires. There are three of them and only two places to attach to the card. I read both that wires 1 and 3 and 2 and 3 are the ones to connect, and I went with 2 and 3 having found credible comments that 1 is for bluetooth. All in all, it took about 10 minutes to install, and that was being very careful and taking my time. Could probably do it in 5.

Software setup was easy and more than compensated for the difficulty with the little antenna connectors on the card. I'd rather struggle with mechanical things than software any day of the week, tyvm!

[...] to the designers at Apple who usually know better - shame on them for designing the placement and fitting of this Airport Express Card. Apple doesn't consider this card a DIY product but there's no reason why the card was so difficult to install on a machine that has so much open space inside. Hard drives are a breeze to install on a MAC Pro --- as are most add on video cards, but this required lots of time, patience and scraped knuckles.

Comments about Apple AirPort Extreme Card for Mac Pro (Early 2009 "Nehalem"):

Product works great, my internet connection is smokin! I wish I would have gotten this several years ago when I first picked up my Mac Pro. I've been running an ethernet cable through the house and occasionally would trip on the wire.

A little tricky to install, make sure to look up the directions online (several websites have step by step instructions) before attempting to do so.

From opening the case to connected to my router in less than fifteen minutes. What else is there to say? The easiest way to put the wires onto the card is by holding it on the connector with your pointer finger and use the side of your thumbnail to press it onto the connector. Close the case, reboot and OS X locates it and you're up and running. Found others online, but B&H will send you the iffy-biddy screws with it for installation. Thanks B&H !

If you own an early Mac Pro without wireless this is a pretty easy upgrade. Sure you could buy a USB adapter, but I like factory gear. Everything I found online for install instructions suggest that the airport connector was on the motherboard under the hard drive bay. Mine was not. My model has the connection behind the CPU board. One i figured that out the only problem was figuring out which wires to connect. I used wires 2 & 3. Wire #1 was too long and seemed incorrect.

Comments about Apple AirPort Extreme Card for Mac Pro (Early 2009 "Nehalem"):

I installed this card in my Mac Pro without trouble - it is a little bit of a pain to snap the antenna leads in place but otherwise an easy install. The OS automagically recognized the card (no software install necessary) and I was able to connect to my home network. The connection is consistently slower than every other wireless device I have though.

I've heard the design of the Mac Pro case is the limiting factor with Wifi reception, so it might not really be the fault of the card, but I'd recommend buying this card only if you REALLY need wireless for your Mac Pro - otherwise figure out how to run an Ethernet cable to your desk.

Wireless card was smaller than I thought, but after a little messing around I got the two cables to attach to the card. Apple claims it is something they should install, but if you know even basic computer components and etc it is simp;le and you'll be done in 5 min.

I wish I'd come to B&H first to get an airport card... I sank $70 into one from another reseller who sold me the WRONG card for my early 2009 Nehalem Mac Pro, and when I contacted them for return/rebate, they IGNORED me.

B&H sold me the RIGHT card, and I had no problem installing it and it works perfectly!

            Thanks, B&H!

I did not purchase an Airport card when I bought my Mac Pro in 2009. I decided that I wanted one and installed this one. It was relatively easy to install and has worked perfectly. You will have to get info off the web for installation instructions or have it done by a Mac specialist.

I don't know how I managed to order a 09 Mac Pro without an Airport card, but I did. And for 3 years I have run a cable straight from my router. But I had to move this machine to another room and needed to install this card. No problems, just follow instructions carefully.

You are supposed to have this installed by an authorized Mac repair facility but it was very easy to do on a MacPro. The only challenging part was plugging the two antenna leads onto the card. I am 72 years old and half blind but it was no problem! There are several websites that will guide you through the installation process...just search for them.

First, the leads are microscopic, and a little difficult to get onto the little posts. The screws that hold the card in place are also very, very small. Just make sure you have proper tools and good lighting. Once the card is in, though, you're off and running.

Just another data point on which wires to install: I had installed it a couple weeks ago with wires 1 and 3, and it seemed to be working.

Then while doing downloads, and at other random times, the download speed would drop to zero, and often the Airport Extreme base station would just drop offline, taking all my other devices with it.

I removed wire 1, and connected wire 2 in its place (now 2 and 3 are connected) and everything seems much more stable and reliable.

This is a real Apple part. It works great and not so hard to install. When I turned on the machine, wireless was immediately active.

Works perfectly in my Eight Core (Early 2009) 2.26 Mac Pro. Installation was a snap after finding the correct instructions which are from the Service Manual. Simply Plug it in, put the 2 screws in and then connect wires 1 and 3 for the antenna's Wire #2 is NOT USED. Tiny hands also help with the install. However, once installed, that's all there is to it. The Mac OS contains all the drivers needed to get it going and it's truly plug and play. This is an original Apple Part also just like B&H states in their description.

Apparently I voided my warranty by installing the card myself but, it was really easy and I managed to do it with no problems even after having a couple drinks with friends. I couldn't be happier with the product and when it comes to mac hardware its always a good idea to stay with official apple products.
