Being an battery, there isn't a whole lot to say about it. The thing is, if you own a Sony NEX 5, you really need to carry at least one extra battery. These cameras eat electricity the way an Olds 98 went through gas. This isn't necessarily a function of the battey, but more of the camera. The LCD display and the menu jumping consume a lot of power. Another charging unit would be useful as well, to carry in the bag.

The LCD protector kit is also a must-have. For the price, you can't go wrong. Sony is suppossed to be coming out with an adaptor that snaps on the back of the camera, but until they arrive on these shores, this is a good, cheap alternative.

I bought this item as a spare with my Sony a7 earlier this year (Jan 2014). It was identical to the battery that came with my camera. Made in Japan, the label on the battery says that it is "min 1020mAh" and "typ 1080mAh". Regardless, the a7 sucks the power out of these batteries in no-time. If you're shooting all day, you'll probably need at least two fully charged batteries to get through it.Last week (Jul 2014), I bought 5 more batteries using the same B&H part number as before, SONPFW50. The new batteries are different than the originals. They are noticeably lighter in weight and the back says they are rated at 1020mAh. No mention of 1080mAh. And they are made in China, not Japan. I am concerned that they will not maintain a charge as long as the original batteries I bought 6 months ago.I'm disappointed that Sony and B&H have substituted an obviously cheaper product for the same-priced original batteries that I bought earlier this year. At minimum, I think the part number and description should have been updated to reflect the difference.

Doesn't last that long shooting 4k on Sony A7ii. However not sure if there are any better options out there.

I have a couple Watson batteries for my a7RII and a7SII and the Sony batteries just perform better. More reliable and more consistent run time.

Lots of good power

By Stuart

Verified Buyer

Comments about Sony NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery (1020mAh):

The Sony branded battery supplies my Sony Alpha 7 with longer and more stable power than the third-party batteries. It does cost more, but I spend less time in charging and they last longer on the shoot.

Adequate battery

By Sony Battery

from Florida

Comments about Sony NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery (1020mAh):

These batteries take forever to charge FYI. And they don't last that long while shooting video. I would suggest having a lot, and a few chargers. The next best option is to run a V mount or Gold mount battery to power camera and accessories. They might last longer for stills shooting.

Own a Sony Alpha? You need these. Lots of these.

By Olivia

from Topsfield, MA

Verified Buyer

Comments about Sony NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery (1020mAh):

Stock up and charge up lots of these batteries. Your Sony Alpha system zaps your batteries incredibly fast. This is a must, as a fully charged battery won't last you a day.

Don't Settle For Less

By Cam

from WA

Comments about Sony NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery (1020mAh):

These batteries put out by Sony are a must if you have an A7 line camera. Don't settle for the imitations. I did once and it didn't give have the life that Sony's batteries do. Knocking down one star for how pricey they are though.

OEM Sony battery, a spare is a must for traveling.

By Flying Al

from Jackson, TN

Verified Buyer

Comments about Sony NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery (1020mAh):

A spare battery is must for Sony A shooter. It will extend your shooting capabilities at night using camera flash. Day shots will give you approximately 300 to 350 in raw setting. It gonna be less at night shots with camera flash and video. Sony battery is great scepter for the price.
