Work very well with my 70-200 f4 L and my 7D with a magnification of 1.6 to 280 mm
I lose nothing in image quality as it can be perceptible. At 5.6 and a focal that it is even sharper. Uses for birds and photography fox and I am extremely satisfied.
But only compatible with the Series L, not all lens.
Also very useful when traveling.
Even though it is a bit expensive but it is very good quality. You pay for what you have!
A must to have!!
4 Start because it's not compatible with all lenses
You won't regret.

Look the picture at 280 mm, F8, 1/500 iso 200
No modification could be at 5.6 too,and it's not my best one!

I have Canon 70D and a EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L lense. The optics was good when taking some pictures of birds and a sunrise from a distance. However, the AF did not work. I read all the literature and based on that I thought the AF would work. I called Canon and they stated it would work only on certain cameras of their line, but not the 70D. I was disappointed because I paid the extra money for AF. I returned the extender and purchased a cheaper one and will probably have to manual focus. So I would check with Canon before purchasing this extender if you want the AF to work.

Very Nice, But Also Very Specialized

By BearlyInTheFrame

I bought this to fit between my 5D mk III and a Canon 100-300 L lens. It works extremely well in that capacity, even hand-held for a full weekend of soccer tournament shooting. Unfortunately, it's not compatible with any other lens I have, including my only other L lens, a Canon 16-35 (but why do that anyway?). It does do exactly what I needed it for, and very well.

Excellent lens extends the reach of my EF zoom lens

By DXR2319

I purchased this along with the EF 100-400 f/4-5.6 IS II lens. I previously owned version II of this extender with a 70-200 f/4 IS USM lens. Compared to the previous version this one allows you to utilize all 61 AF points on a 5D Mark IV up to f/8. I ran this through Reikan's FoCal calibration software along with the base lens and I couldn't see any degradation of the image with the extender attached. You will loose a stop with this extender attached which can hurt in low light situations but given the high ISO available in the latest Canon models this is not much of an issue for daylight photography.

this is one I should have sent back

By Charles

It has been soft since I got it.  it is so far off though, that I should have sent it back.  It goes to +14 adjustment on a 100-400 canon lens and even then it's not quite right.  I recommend that you check this item out carefully before your warranty period is up.  I'm shocked that canon has done such a bad QA on this extender.

Worth the upgrade

By Jarrett

I put off upgrading from the II to the III. Well worth the upgrade. AF and sharpness work better than the II version. I usually push the limits and I can say that this is worth the upgrade. I have used this with the 100-400 II and 1D IV and 7D II. Only center point at the full range and yes you have to pump up the ISO but the images are surprisingly sharp if my shutter speed is fast enough. AF on either cam but it is faster compared to the previous 1.4 version.

Extender EF 1.4X III,

By Steven

Verified Buyer

This is a great addition to the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lense, a clear recommendation from my side, very pleased with the product. If you are considering purchase please be mindful of your canon camera model with respect to autofocus when using the 1.4 attachement, some further information here https://www.bhphotovideo.com/FrameWork/charts/canon1_4xExtender.html .The Image Stabilizer does not operate with the following cameras: EOS 650, 620, 630/600, RT, 700, 750, 850, EOS-1, A2/A2E, 10s, Elan, Rebel/Rebel S, Rebel II/Rebel SII. also the 70D, the 7D MarkII and 80D are compatible with this lense configuration.

Fantastic Addition To Any Long Range Lens

By Israel

from undisclosed

Verified Buyer

Initially, I bought this to extend the capabilities of my 180mm macro, but have found myself religiously using it with my 70-200mm. Has been a life saver for small sporting events and allows me to stay stationary for much longer periods. Haven't noticed too much of a difference in sharpness, but then again haven't done microscopically finite comparisons like some of the others have here. The benefits of better closeups for the sporting event alone, make this well worth the investment.

Great for soccer!

By Clear View Steve

I shoot high school sports with a 70-200 f/2.8. I have the 2x Extender also, which works great for daytime. But since it reduces my 2.8 lens to a 5.6 it's not great for after dark. The 2x Extender only reduces it to 4.0, so I can keep shooting when most of the natural light is gone.

As promised...a great extender.

By Gary

from undisclosed

Verified Buyer

I purchased this extender to give me more reach on my Canon 100-400mm mkii zoom. Just taking some test shots on backyard birds it delivers as promised. Minimal light fall off, auto-focus works fine, results are sharp and the extra reach is great. It does throw my balance off a little when shooting hand-held as the weight of the lens is farther forward, but I'm sure it is something I will get used to over time. I'm taking it to Nicaragua in a few weeks to photograph birds and wildlife and will give it a real test there.

Must have addition to 200 and 400 mm lenses.

By Ralph

from undisclosed

Verified Buyer

Works great with my 200 mm L lens with no measurable loss in image quality. Enables me to carry my 70 to 200 mm lens without carrying my big lens when traveling light. When I need to capture images at a greater distance then normal, it works well with my 100 to 400 L lens.Lens becoming a 560 mm lens. Wildlife does not always come close enough while sitting in bushes for hours.

Perfect Accessory!

By Debra

Verified Buyer

This is the perfect accessory to go with my new Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens. I am a small female who hikes alot in the backcountry and did not want to lug along a bigger, heavier lens. The extender is easy to put on, take off, and all the photos that I've taken with it on are tack sharp!

It is as I would expect from a quality Canon lens. Well made and beautiful optics. Used in conjunction with my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L II lens it performs flawlessly and delivers clear detailed images without distortion.

I use this with my Canon 100-400 lens on a Canon 7D II camera for wildlife photography. It works perfectly and I see no degradation in image quality. It seems very well made and functions just as it should.

An improvement over the Canon 1.4X II

By Brian

from undisclosed

Purchased this to use with the Canon 200-400L with internal 1.4X extender. Produced surprisingly good results on my first use with it, even though the light was very poor. The 7D II AF grabbed the birds quickly even with this extender attached, and held it when the internal extender was switched in in addition. Should work well to replace my 1.4X II extender on my 70-200 2.8 II
