Work very well with my 70-200 f4 L and my 7D with a magnification of 1.6 to 280 mm
I lose nothing in image quality as it can be perceptible. At 5.6 and a focal that it is even sharper. Uses for birds and photography fox and I am extremely satisfied.
But only compatible with the Series L, not all lens.
Also very useful when traveling.
Even though it is a bit expensive but it is very good quality. You pay for what you have!
A must to have!!
4 Start because it's not compatible with all lenses
You won't regret.

Look the picture at 280 mm, F8, 1/500 iso 200
No modification could be at 5.6 too,and it's not my best one!

I have Canon 70D and a EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L lense. The optics was good when taking some pictures of birds and a sunrise from a distance. However, the AF did not work. I read all the literature and based on that I thought the AF would work. I called Canon and they stated it would work only on certain cameras of their line, but not the 70D. I was disappointed because I paid the extra money for AF. I returned the extender and purchased a cheaper one and will probably have to manual focus. So I would check with Canon before purchasing this extender if you want the AF to work.

Good, but not perfect

By TNFotoGuy

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

I have used the extender mainly with the Canon 100-44 mm ii lens; there is, of course, a one stop loss, as expected. The autofocus is slow, also as expected, but at times the autofocus has difficulty locking in, which is a disappointment. Also, as expected, the addition of the extender means the lens needs a lot of light, or, in lower light situations, a higher ISO, which contributes to noise.

Canon Extender Awesomeness!

By Al

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

Beautifully made and works perfectly. A little softness at full zoom on a Canon 100-400, but that is to be expected and is very minimal, truly a wonderful addition to any photographers arsenal.

Useful with reservations

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

I've used it primarily with the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6, and only at the full 400 mm focal length (560 with the extender) for bird and small mammal photography.
There is no way it can be expected NOT to reduce image quality with an image the same size as without the extender. What I have experienced is that to get a picture with comparable "extender-free" quality, The file needs to be twice as big. For example I find I need at least a 600 KB JPEG image to get a exhibit-quality picture without the extender. That would need 1400 KB (1.2 MB) with the extender. 600 KB may be "acceptable" with the right lighting and contrast, so I can get images that at 300 KB would not be acceptable at all without the extender. This has value in the difficult conditions I work in which are mostly heavily forested. Auto-focus is a struggle in heavy shade conditions, but works quickly in good light provided I manually pre-set the focus to about what it will be. The stabilizer works as well as it does without the extender, which has enabled me to get good shade-shots at as low as 1/50 second. It only works on this lens with one center AF point, so it is not practical for pictures of flying birds.
I have attached a picture of a Northern Flicker taken at 20 meters distance.

This is a great addition to the 100-400 L II. Extends the range without greatly impacting max aperture or adding a lot of weight.

As good as it gets

By Mike

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

I got this without any great expectations, as a stopgap measure to extend my 70-200 f2.8 IS Mark III lens to a bit of a longer focal length - 280mm to be exact

I did not want to buy a longer lens, my camera bag is full & heavy already. And I rarely need a lens longer than 200. But once in a while you need a bit more, so I decided to try it.

I use it on my 5ds, 50mp body, on a tripod for that extended 280mm focal length.

It works quite well, no issues, perfectly functioning between body and lens. In the viewfinder it is tact sharp.

The files themselves are probably 95+% as sharp as the lens without the Extender. You will notice it a bit, if you really know what to look for. But most will find it an Extender without any image degradation.

Plusses are

-VERY small, only about 1"

-Fairly light, but it has some weight to it, which is not a bad thing, as that indicates to me there is real glass and metal and genuine components in there, rather than a tube with a coke bottle for a lens.

- Really great optical quality, NO Chromatic Aberration even to the edges, but that would be primary lens dependant, my 70-200 mk III is possibly the finest lens Canon makes optically, ( perhaps the 24-70 f2.8 mk III) would come in a close second.

- works perfectly with the canon recommended compatible lenses

- only one stop light loss, if you got a 300mm chances are it would be an f4 or slower, so to use this on a 2.8 lens, knocking it down to f4 is equal to having another longer lens in my opinion. But you do not have to invest in that or carry it around, especially if you need and use is occasional, like mine

If your needs and situation are similar to mine, this is a really great addition to your bag.

fyi, I have been commercial photographer for 30 years, NYC, SF, now LV shooting Food & Beverage for the major hotels. I am a former 4x5, 8x10 view camera guy, using sinars and schnieders, so I kinda know and understand image quality, and real job equipment practicality.

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

While you do lose some perceivable sharpness, it is minimal in real world use. This is the best extender made so I can't find much to quarrel with. It's a good deal at its price point also.

Extremely useful addition to my kit

By THE DEAFGUY

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

Purchased this about two weeks ago and highly recommend this extender. If there is any noticeable loss in image quality, the reach gained alone is worth the price. Have been using this currently with a canon 100-400 II, very impressed with the image quality. I live on a bay with a lot of boating activity and have been getting very sharp images of boats moving across the bay, like 2-3 miles away. Can't afford a long telephoto prime, so this gives me 560 at the 400 end. Love this extender, I leave it attached to my 100-400 II.

I love it! It works great with 100-400 II and 7D II. Only center point AF with 7D II, but it is fast and accurate! Great piece of equipment if you need more reach with AF.

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

I liked the Canon EF 1.4X III, but I returned it 'cuz it didn't work with the Canon EF Lens 100-400mm's AF settings while the Kenko's WORKED. Besides, the price is quite stiff for something that doesn't work with the same brand of lens. Sorry, Canon, you have to make your extenders work with ALL of your lenses with AF settings for the PRICE.

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

Purchased the Canon Extender EF 1.4X III to use with my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 IS USM lens and Canon 80D camera. Since the 80D has a APS-C sensor this gives me up to 320mm when using the 70-200mm lens. I have used this combination when shooting some wildlife as well as a Blue Angel airshow with great results. Photos are sharp! The extender is small so I easily carry it around in my camera bag in case I need a little extra range. Very pleased with my purchase and have no problem recommending, but be sure to check compatibility first with your lenses and camera.

Comments about Canon Extender EF 1.4X III:

I do a lot of bird photography with my Canon 7D Mark ll and Canon EF 100-400mm lS ll USM. This extender allows me to use auto focus. It is fast and almost to the shot crystal clear. Once I put it on the camera I haven't been able to remove it, I love it! It allows me to get many shot that otherwise I would have attempted to violate the birds space and loose the shot. Today, I photographed a hawk about 100 feet in the air leaving a tree top and it locked on to it and remained in focus until I let up on the shutter button. Absolutely amazing! I can't say enough good things about this purchase. I was very skeptical because I had an old Canon 1.4 and 2.0 which I had to use manual focus. I was never able to get my photos to be as clear as without the extender. I can't tell the difference in clarity with or without the extender now. What a beautiful piece of glass!

I had the Extender EF 1.4X II by Canon. It would not allow autofocus when used with my EF 500mm 1:4 L IS USM lens. The new EF 1.4 III allows autofocus. I'm very please with the results. Focuses quickly and images are clear and sharp.
