This lens sits on my NEX7 and it is great for outdoors with lots of sun. Once you are inside, it takes a second or two to focus in low light. I love shooting macro and this lens some what gives me that option. I would love to get more macro images out of it but it has it's limitations. Also, when carrying lens down, it creeps out (zooms out). The ring moves tight when zooming in and out especially when doing video. Over all not a bad lens, I shot over 4000 images and love it. People give compliments when they see pictures. You will love it too. Plus it is 18-200mm which I absolutely love. You can get closeups or those distant shots. I know NEX7 supposed to be one of those light weight cameras but this lens will let you know it's there. I had people laugh a bit about the size of the camera compare to a lens. But the lens gives me the reach I need when I need it. The laughing party was changing lenses (18-70 to 70-200 or 300mm) on their camera's while I was shooting. Laugh all you want, but I got my shots that you missed cause you were changing your lens.

I bought this to be my one go-to lens for my NEX-7. Yes, it's a little large and a little heavy, but the entire package is so much less to deal with than my Nikon that I don't find those issues. The picture quality is excellent, though there is serious vignetting at the lower zoom range, and even though the camera is fast I would have preferred a faster lens to better control depth of field. But overall the images are sharp and colors true. I find it slow to initially focus, particularly in sunny, moderately contrasted scenes (the lens or the software.... I don't know), and it's OK but not necessarily great at tracking. I also experience "zoom creep" -- unless the lens is level or locked it will open up or close on its own.

For what I bought it for this was an excellent choice. If you're a perfectionist you'll be happier with fixed length lenses but you'll have to carry them around and change them. Coupled with the NEX-7 it's hard to complain. Those 24 megapixels are amazing.

Comments about Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens:

The only drawback to this lens is that I received it the day before I left for the vacation for which I purchased the lens. I feel if you purchase it, you should have an hour or so....or maybe more....to play around with it to make sure you know it! Same with any photographic equipment.

I did get to know it pretty fast and it is a great lens! Works better with a tripod, obviously any telephoto type lens would. However, shooting from a skiff, it still did great. On some of the photos, I took two shots as "insurance" and that worked til I got totally comfortable with the lens.

Would recommend.

The lens lock is good to keep the lens from extending when not in use. Also, I like tightness of the lens for adjusting the focal length.

I've only had this lens and my new Sony A6300 for a short time and have only shot with it a few times but so far I'm extremely happy with it. The lens and camera combined are a nice comfortable weight and the photo quality has been excellent. So far so good. I couldn't be happier.

Definitely worth the money

By Donald Stull

Comments about Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens:

I thought long and hard about getting this lens. It's 50% more expensive than the Sony a6000 body, so it's not a small investment. But I took it, along with a 38mm, each attached to a Sony a6000 body, on a photo workshop in Cuba this spring. It's heavy. It's somewhat bulky. It is worth it? Yes! It is a great piece of glass. When I want flexibility to cover close ups and more distant shots, this lens handles it all. Its focus is surprisingly fast. I don't think I lost a shot because of the lens. In fact, it is a great street photography lens as is allows you to get some great candid shots without getting in the subject's face. Pretend you're chimping and shoot away! It worked for me for several hundred shots. I would recommend this as a high-quality all-around lens for the a6000.

Comments about Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens:

This is the second SEL18200 that I've owned -- I rather foolishly sold my first one a couple of years ago, but I sure missed it, and thus I bought this new one.

Extended-range lenses like this are always some kind of compromise, but the compromises in this lens are in how it is bigger and heavier and more expensive than most others -- and thus, the compromises are not in the optics or the image stabilization or the price, so "you get what you pay for." I think it's worth every penny of its cost. I'm willing to pay the price and to haul the big lens around, and the reward is excellent image quality. I'm definitely satisfied!

Comments about Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens:

I work as a ski resort videographer, and this is my go too lens for action. Admittedly, its not as crisp as its Cannon and Nikon counterparts, but its autofocus is superb and works great at 240fps.

At its retail price, this lens is really a bargain for shooting fast action over a wide depth of field.

I should add that this lens is somewhat fragile

Comments about Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens:

I am a retired pro, and moved to Sony e-mount system to reduce weight and space needs. Although this lens is fairly heavy, it's a great "one lens fits all" for travel, and very sharp, even at 200 mm.

I was worried about speed of auto-focusing, as I have been frustrated by the Sony 55-210 kit lens. I tested the lens at a soccer game, shooting at f6.3 using the a6000's 11 fps motor drive, and marveled at the speed and sharpness of the auto focus. I was also happy to find that auto focus work well on the Nex 7's contrast detection only AF system.

This lens came with my Sony NEX-FS100 and I never use it on that camera. It has fogged on me 3 times. This requires opening the front element and cleaning the inside of the front lens. Sony should have made this lens better for the elements.
I gave it 3 stars because of the results I get when using it with my NEX-7. I love it for a photo lens, but not on my big video camera.

Comments about Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens:

I want this lens to travel. The image quality and versatility are the strongest "pros". The zoom and focus zoom are smooth. Much better than some Canon lenses i've tried. But the lens have a design issue to use with Nex 6, 5 or 6 cameras: The diamenter of 67mm is too high and cover the AF assistance lamp. Ok, in outdoor conditions, this won't be necessary, but is a issue that you have to know. Keep you kit lens to use the camera flash and AF assistance lamp in indoors situations. And she is a little heavier than I expected. But its ok. Nice piece of glass.Great finish material.

Comments about Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens:

I acquired this lens when I purchased a NEX-VG10 video camera and really liked its range and flexibility with that camera, but have used it most on my NEX-7 and most recently on my new Sony a6000 mirrorless body. With phase detection on that camera body (and lens firmware upgrade to v.02) this lens has gained new life as an amazingly fast focuser. It's a whole new world using the 179 phase detection points, along with 25 point contrast detection. Sharpness is anywhere from good to excellent, depending upon shooting circumstances. I have a number of primes that I do use for special needs, but find myself always falling back on the 18-200, even though it adds a significant amount of weight and bulk to a very small camera body. Still, nowhere as heavy or large as an APS-C DSLR, like my D7000. Now, the combo of the a6000 and the 18-200mm goes beyond my Nikon D7000/18-200mm package!

Comments about Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens:

based on video applications with sony Nex fs 700.

the lens is great because in reality you don't have no other choice...unless you want to go fully manual in shooting video...which is a bit of headaches for sports etc...
Beware that adding the sony LA EA2 and a superb lens like the carl zeiss 24/70 f2,8 on a nex Fs 700 will give you no aperture control.the default aperture will be set at F 3,5.
unless you think to get stuck at F3,5 on vidéo is great...you will kiss this lens because there is no other choice.
The quality is excellent in vidéo and i have done some footage in slow mo for kitesrfing with a perfect auto focus.the result is brilliant.
my final thought is to wish that more E mount lens will come with higher aperture

poor quality at high zoom range. my other maker outfit with 70-300mm was superb at ALL ranges of the zoom. I have given the Sony to a son who thinks it is adequate but I regret using it at max. zoom on my Africa safari. It is very adequate at the 18-30mm zoom range but not the lens for me.

I've been using this lens on a Sony NEX-5n for one year and I've only been more and more impressed with it the more I use it.

          Pros:

          - Incredible image stabilization at full zoom.
          - Very sturdy construction
          - Impressive image quality for an 18-200 lens.

          Cons:

          - Very heavy
          - Lens creep

If you have a Sony NEX camera, this is the first lens you should buy. It does a lot and does it surprisingly well.

I have this lens mounted on a NEX 6 camera. I use this setup for outdoors pictures. I find the lens very sharp through the whole zoom range. The lens is not all that heavy, as some have said. It is about the same as my 17-40 cannon. the color and picture quality I Think are better then the 7D with the 17-40 lens Sony pictures are a little cooler, and more true to life at least in the outdoors. The colors of the red rock, sky and canyons is more true then the Canon. Some complain of lens creep, but I have not found that (I do keep the lens locked while walking. I live in SW Utah, and carrying the NEX6 with just one lens (18-200) with the quality of pictures I get. I sold all my Canon equipment, and hike the desert and mountains and enjoying it more. The only drawback, is the silver color. I wish they had made this lens in black.
