In short, so far this product is a winner. It fits my intended need – simultaneously feed two HDTV's and record a third channel. My downstairs TV connects directly to a PC and the upstairs TV is connected via an Xbox (used as an extender). The PC runs on Win7, Windows Media Center, with the interface for the HD Homerun Prime entirely through my router with a Cat6 link to the Xbox. The bonus – I can also view TV independently on my networked PC's. Set up for the HD HRP with Comcast was easy. I picked up a CableCard (first one is free) at the local Comcast Office and activated the card over the phone using their special number. I have ditched my Comcast boxes – note that On Demand and Pay-Per-View is not accessible

I am super excited to try out the HD HomeRun Prime, but it looks like I will have to wait a bit, when I plugged it in for the lights lit up, and then nothing, they all went off and never came back on. I am working on the RMA process now with B&H and that has been very pleasant. Thank you for all of you help B&H sometimes thing break, their complex electronics. The important thing is how you help us to resolve them.

I will update my review once I get a working item.

I use this HDHomeRun tuner alongside my Apple TV Gen4 with the Channels app and they work perfect together. No more cable boxes for me, just a tv card.

Good piece of equipment, but encounter problems.

By Charlest

Equipment works on my 3 computers using WMC, but have problems keeping it working all the time. At times it will not find the WiFi TV signal, or if it finds the signal it's garbled, or will become garbled. Working on the various problems considering signal integrity, but wish I understood what's going on a little better. Equipment is not truly plug and play you have to mess around with it quite a bit to get it running. On the whole nicely designed piece of equipment just wish I didn't have continual problems.

Does exactly as it was made to do.

Not for users that are not tech savy since you need to understand you need a client of some sort to access. Can be a bit of a struggle to set up with cable company so do your home work prior so you understand what is needed. The tech on the other end may need your help.

But love it, saving 30+ bucks a month after turning in my cable boxes. Hope the client software evolves a bit in the future but is very good as is. We have xbox ones connected to all our tvs since were gamers so made it easy. Picked up some media remotes & use with kinect to control tv.

Less expensive than a cable box

By Menachem

Previously we rented five cable boxes from our local provider at a cost of about $31 per month. Understandably, they charged as much as $500 when you damage their equipment. With children and pets, that's a real possibility. With the Silicon Dust tuner, I've returned the cable company's rental boxes and just use an Apple TV with the Channels app instead. It will pay for itself in a short period of time, and it's allowing me to watch programs on my iPad or iPhone as well as the television. I've not noticed any issues with picture quality - in fact in appears to be better.

HD Homerun Prime Tuner is the best thing to happen since sliced bread was invented. It cuts down on the number of cable boxes that you have to rent, and creates the flexibility for everyone to watch cable wirelessly on our own devices.

Saves time, money, headaches, and even replaces WMC!!!

After building, maintaining, updating, and repairing a Windows Media Center home theater PC with two Ceton InfiniTV 4 tuners for the last 10 years, I have been taking my time researching and deciding upon a replacement system, now that WMC has been discontinued by Microsoft. I recently purchased a new Samsung 8000-Series SUHD TV, and learned of HDHomeRun's RUI direct connection to this TV, and decided that it was worth the $115 for the HDHR Prime to check it out, especially now that Silicon Dust has released a DVR software (still in beta). I must say, I am completely blown away by this product! When it arrived, I had it setup within five minutes, and was happily streaming live TV directly to the Samsung TV, controlling it all from the factory remote. Five minutes after that, I was on the Silicon Dust website signing up for the DVR service for $60 a year. As quickly as I had set up the device itself, I had the DVR configured for recording. I immediately cancelled all the future recordings in WMC, and moved them over to the HDHomerun DVR, and they have been recording perfectly ever since. Then I downloaded the HDHomeRun View app to my tablet and my phone, and I was accessing live TV and the DVR from both those devices as well! A week later, I found out I could connect the HDHR Prime to Plex through a channel called HDHR Viewer 2, and stream live TV to a Roku I have at a vacation home that has internet, but no Cable TV! What CAN'T this thing do? It is absolutely wonderful! No more maintenance! No more formatting, and rebuilding year over year! No more huge home theater PC sitting under my TV! All it requires is a direct Ethernet connection to a router, hub, or network switch, and (optionally) a designated storage area anywhere on the network for recording TV, and it is all set to go! The only downside with this device over WMC is the lack of support (currently) for premium cable channels, such as HBO, Showtime, etc. But for me, that's not a big deal.

Product works as intended. Simple setup with wiring, this is my 2nd HDHomerun Prime in the home. A Much easier process now that Comcast has a better handling of cablecards!

I use the product with the new Plex DVR product. Setting it up with Verizon was a little difficult as Verizon was not aware of it. But after a few bumps it was setup on my network and Plex was able to see it easily. I am loving it so far.

The product is extremely easy to setup. Took very little effort and everything was well documented. The silicondust support site interfaces directly with the device to help you configure it. I'm able to tune all the Verizon FIOS channels I subscribe to. Highly recommend!

Bought 2 to replace a 6 tuner Ceton Infinitv6 PCI card that failed. Downside is that each required it's own Tuning Adapter from Time Warner and I had to get a second CableCard (no big deal). Setup was no problem. Both boxes seem stable after a couple weeks. Infinitv6 card never was stable. I still use Ceton Echo extender boxes that don't care what brand the tuners are. Windows Media Center recognized all 6 tuners and just picks an available one transparently.

    Issues with TimeWarner

    By jgara

    from Cincinnati, Ohio

    About Me Power User

Important call out - due to challenges with my cable provider (TimeWarner), nearly all channels are marked with copy-once copy protection and are not supported by any turner product (not specific to SiliconDust). Without certain viewing agents (e.g. Windows Media Center - no longer supported), channels cannot be decrypted/viewed. Not all cable providers have this is issue. Rating as a four as this challenge should called out more clearly. I spent about 6 hours finding no solution around CCI.

The setup process was very easy. If you have a provider that doesn't protect with copy-once CCI, this is the only product I would look at for a powerful, simple tuner.

WMC not needed unless you need to record but Silicon Dust has available DVR software. I may try it soon since MS don't sell WMC feature on Win 8 and I don't want to buy Win 7. For now, watching tv on Kodi works great especially streaming to android minix box. Compared to Ceton easier to setup. I use Ceton in WMC on one TV for recording. I tried expanding to Win 8 computer but found out a little too late that I could not add features so gave this a try. So I now stream to Win 8 and Anroid minix with Kodi is great

Talk about a way to stick it to the cable company. Instead of paying monthly to rent their equipment, I have access to all my channels all over my house without having to pay those monthly fees. The quality is good, and the product is quick.

This my second Prime and has replaced the service providers stb with this unit. I run it with W7 WMC for now and soon Silicondust may have a replacement for it that will make android TV boxes great controllers for access along with other platforms. For now Silicondusts beta DVR can work on computers, some servers and some NAS devices.

Set up for me was easy just as it was for the first one. But if you have issues you can open a trouble ticket with silicondust or go on the forum and ask for help and there are many who can work with you to figure out the issue that is stalling installation.

On top of that as usual B & H delivery was fast, well protected and ahead of schedule.

If you are a bit of a techie and happen to have a XBOX 360 to use as a WINDOWS Media Extender, this will allow you to stream live TV from your cable provider to a most every type of tablet, smart phone, PC, or TV via DLNA or the Xbox 360. You will need a good wired network,(BEST), a MoCA setup,(Better), or very fast Wifi, 5GHz AC (Maybe) for this to be useful. Add a cablecard and a PC running WMC for best results. Recommend a Xbox 360 E, or S version, as they run much quieter
