I use a 70-200 lens for a lot of my work. No secret it's long and heavy. The lens makes the camera an awkward load. Seems I'm always trying to keep it under control and out of the way. The equipment becomes a literal pain in the neck (or shoulder) on long jobs or walking from location to location.

Seeing the Spider holster in ads, I thought it looked a little odd the way a camera hung from the holster, but trust me the designers got it right. The holster is so well designed that I can lock a camera in the holster, and comfortably hike a mile to our local park with the camera strapped to my waist. It stays put and doesn't cause undue discomfort.

I prefer to let it ride off my left hip and sling a little lower on the right, just about mid cheek on the right. This puts the camera about quick draw for my right hand, and is a little more comfortable overall. Some might like it a bit higher around the waist. I found the waist strap caused some discomfort if it was strapped directly over my pants belt. So I hike my pants up and strap the holster just below it. Let the camera hang upside down with the lens turned in across your butt. I know it looks strange, but this keeps the equipment out of the way, and is the most comfortable. The designers knew what they were doing.

On location the camera slips in and out of the holster smoothly and easily. I was surprised how quickly I got accustomed to the process. You get two hand use to set up shots or pose subjects (carry on a conversation if you're a hand talker). Then you just reach down and pull the camera up to sight the image.

The camera locking mechanism operates with a thumb flick. On location I feel comfortable leaving it off. The holster is that secure. If I will be not shooting for a while, or if I'm changing locations I engage the lock. It wouldn't surprise me if you could hang upside down with the holster and not lose the camera.

I still have a shoulder strap attached to my camera which is a bit of an annoyance. The strap hangs and bounces around, and can get caught on stuff it you aren't careful. I will be switching to a hand or wrist strap now that I trust the Spider.

The Spider holster is secure. The locking systems for the camera in the holster, and the belt to the waist are solid. Having experienced the latching systems, I'm over worrying about losing the belt or camera to a latch failure. Also, I believe, they make it very difficult for a snatch and run robbery.

I'm 6'4' and in reasonable shape. I don't know how this might work for a slighter frame.

This is a wonderful invention. It is crazy-well designed. The dread of lugging, losing, or controlling that big beautiful wonderful load of a lens is gone.

I have photographer friends who love the spider holster and encouraged me to get one. I like that it gives me the ability to shoot with multiple cameras and not lug around a camera bag but the belt is just too big for me! I'm an average sized female and I have the belt on the tightest setting and it still hangs off my waist by a couple of inches. I dont feel like it's very secure this way because it's loose and swings around.

I really like the product but just wish they made a female size for it.

Just got this and haven't tried it out on a shoot, but it looks fabulous. The idea of not having heavy cameras over my neck is great. The service was terrific at B&H. Has been every time I've bought something from them.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

Have already used it for 2 shoots and was amazing. I did not have to worry about putting camera down. Camera was by my side at all times. It is of good quality. Is easy to size to your waist since inner belt is Velcro. I also tested it with my Tamron 70-300 on my Nikon 750 and worked perfectly. B&H packaged it with bubble wrap inside a sturdy box..I called that exceptional packing.

Room for improvement

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

Great product and very well made. Saves your neck from a strap that is always annoyingly there. Never swings when one bends forward or kneels. Comfortable unless you wear a belt anyway then it has to sit above or below your belt.
a) Aesthetics ~ Most DSLR's are Black so why is the bracket (holster plate) not black, instead they chose an off silver.
b) I am sure the manufacturers could redesign the bracket (Holster plate) to include an Arca-Swiss mount thereby not forcing the user to add an additional bracket on top of the supplied one (Why spend double to purchase a dedicated Arca-swiss mount plate that is only finger tightened to a very expensive DSLR that attaches to an Arca-Swiss camer mount?) Secondly one will have to remove this additional Mount to attach it to a tripod.
c) Allen key supplied with the Holster plate is not the same size as all the other user mounts used (if one is forced to attach another tripod mount to the Holster plate)
d) Built in Metal silver bracket (looped over belt) exposed inside the belt could possibly wear clothing - haven't had it long enough to experience this if it happens at all.
Overall a wonderful and highly recommended product.

Best equipment for a long day shooting

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I'm usually shooting marathon,Mud runs, outdoor events, etc. Long days of 6 plus hours my back would kill me. With the Spider pro, I'm not only more comfortable, but my back doesn't hurt and I'm more free when its time to use my camera. When I shoot wildlife I usually carry the 70-200 with a body attach to it for quick access when i don't have to use my Big telephoto lens.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I shoot mostly track & field and cross country meets, so I am dashing about hurrying from event to event. I carry a 5diii and a 5dii, one on a strap and the other on the SpiderPro. I must say that the SpiderPro makes this practical or even possible. I would not be able have both cameras with me safely at the same time while hustling around. It is solidly built and the lock mechanism is reliable, secure and easy to work.

This is a must have product

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I've been looking for a while for something to make it easy to carry my camera and lenses other than in my backpack. I definitely get a sore neck and shoulders after hiking all day with my equipment. I have tried a few other brands, but this is by far the best. I have a Nikon7200 with a Sigma 18-300mm lens and a Sigma 150-600mm lens, plus other smaller lenses. I have carried both lenses on the camera with this system. The Nikon camera and the 18-300mm lens fit perfectly with the spider system. So easy to get my camera in and out quickly, especially when I'm shooting wildlife. I don't even know I'm carrying it. The 150-600mm lens when attached to the camera is a little more awkward, in that it can hit my leg a bit (not that much of a problem though and still do carry this on the SpiderPro System). I have found however, that it is really easy to carry the bigger lens in a pouch and attach it to the other side - works wonders. I am a female and just love this system. I hike for around 10 hours with the SpiderPro system, my camera and 2 lenses. I can now carry some of my other gear in my backpack (less neck pain) and so much easier to get some quick shots in.

no more shoulder discomfort

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

have had a sliding sling shoulder strap system to carry my camera and lens seemed to always be in the way or had to support with a hand. After trading up to this system what a relief, no shoulder pain and no worries about carrying the camera around. The system had the camera securely mounted and is very easy to remove and take pictures.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I love this holster. It got my heavy camera and lens off of my shoulder and neck and made it so easy to carry. Your mobility is greatly increased, you can bend over without the camera dangling precariously and moving. It is secure and feels like you are carrying half the weight.

Excellent holster

By Janet

from San Francisco, CA

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

This model is comfortable and it is easy to slip the camera in and out of it. It even locks in place. Camera is carried horizontally so it is out of your legs' way. I'm very, very happy with it.

MY PREVIOUS MODEDL had the lens pointing down which interfered with walking (mine is a large lens), but worst of all, you had to twist the camera to remove it from the holster which, on a regular basis, loosened the hook attached to the camera with the result that, 1) I could not remove the camera from the holster, or 2) the camera actually became detached from the hook leaving the camera to fall. Wow is that scary. THIS IS WHY I BOUGHT THE SPIDER HOLSTER which does NOT have these problems.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I really enjoy using this product. For the longest time I was slinging two camera bodies on straps across my body j-- it was ridiculous. I came across this belt while at the NYC location and was really impressed with the heft (a good heft) and build quality. It's allowed me to free up a shoulder and still have instant access to both cameras.

Love this thing and would buy it again ten times over!

The holster is great and there is no real assembly aside from putting the plate onto your camera. It is easy to use and adjust for a secure fit. The camera slides in and out easily. I got this after having had the Capture Clip and like it better for many events. I feel Capture might be better for more rugged activities while this Spider holster is great for most other activities.

Or perhaps it should be "Why didn't I think of this before my back started hurting?" I've only had this product for a week or two so I may have to post again later if threads come loose or any negatives arise. However, right now I am one very happy camper. From the first "holstering" of my camera/flash unit I've had a smile on my face telling everyone that all is right with the world. My last purchase was a Canon 70D which continues to have focusing issues and has taken the joy of photography way down. So it is a great joy to have a new product (Spider Pro) exceed my expectations!
