I use a 70-200 lens for a lot of my work. No secret it's long and heavy. The lens makes the camera an awkward load. Seems I'm always trying to keep it under control and out of the way. The equipment becomes a literal pain in the neck (or shoulder) on long jobs or walking from location to location.

Seeing the Spider holster in ads, I thought it looked a little odd the way a camera hung from the holster, but trust me the designers got it right. The holster is so well designed that I can lock a camera in the holster, and comfortably hike a mile to our local park with the camera strapped to my waist. It stays put and doesn't cause undue discomfort.

I prefer to let it ride off my left hip and sling a little lower on the right, just about mid cheek on the right. This puts the camera about quick draw for my right hand, and is a little more comfortable overall. Some might like it a bit higher around the waist. I found the waist strap caused some discomfort if it was strapped directly over my pants belt. So I hike my pants up and strap the holster just below it. Let the camera hang upside down with the lens turned in across your butt. I know it looks strange, but this keeps the equipment out of the way, and is the most comfortable. The designers knew what they were doing.

On location the camera slips in and out of the holster smoothly and easily. I was surprised how quickly I got accustomed to the process. You get two hand use to set up shots or pose subjects (carry on a conversation if you're a hand talker). Then you just reach down and pull the camera up to sight the image.

The camera locking mechanism operates with a thumb flick. On location I feel comfortable leaving it off. The holster is that secure. If I will be not shooting for a while, or if I'm changing locations I engage the lock. It wouldn't surprise me if you could hang upside down with the holster and not lose the camera.

I still have a shoulder strap attached to my camera which is a bit of an annoyance. The strap hangs and bounces around, and can get caught on stuff it you aren't careful. I will be switching to a hand or wrist strap now that I trust the Spider.

The Spider holster is secure. The locking systems for the camera in the holster, and the belt to the waist are solid. Having experienced the latching systems, I'm over worrying about losing the belt or camera to a latch failure. Also, I believe, they make it very difficult for a snatch and run robbery.

I'm 6'4' and in reasonable shape. I don't know how this might work for a slighter frame.

This is a wonderful invention. It is crazy-well designed. The dread of lugging, losing, or controlling that big beautiful wonderful load of a lens is gone.

I have photographer friends who love the spider holster and encouraged me to get one. I like that it gives me the ability to shoot with multiple cameras and not lug around a camera bag but the belt is just too big for me! I'm an average sized female and I have the belt on the tightest setting and it still hangs off my waist by a couple of inches. I dont feel like it's very secure this way because it's loose and swings around.

I really like the product but just wish they made a female size for it.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

Simply would not buy because Spider did not bother to make a left handed version, The instructions, say to try it right handed, I have two finger tips missing and cannot safely hold the camera, Oh, Spider says turn the belt around, why not make the left hand version and keep the buckle in front?

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I have used at least three different types of camera straps. I carry two DSLRs (one with a 100mm - 400mm) and walk sometimes several miles while taking shots. The problem with my other straps was the weight was on my neck and shoulders and after even a short hike was hard to deal with. The SpiderPro puts that weight on my hips and so far I find it to be more comfortable. Its a bit pricier than my prior straps, but its well made and worth every penny.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I purchased this product a few weeks ago after having back pains using the chest/shoulder strap. Having my camera held tightly at my side without the weight on my back and shoulder is great. I like having the camera very secure when I bend over or am carrying other equipment. It takes a little getting used to hitting the same spot each time to "holster" the camera, but after a little bit it gets easier. It's a well made product. The only small snag I found, its wearing a slightly longer shirt that is not tucked in, it then covers the belt/holster and your shirt gets in the way.. but not a big deal.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I had always before had my camera with the neck strap which allowed my camera to swing - not a good thing. Now with the SpiderPro holster it will be a lot safer for the camera and easier to use.

I love this spider holster, as it allows me to have my camera with me, and not always need to hold it or have it over my shoulder weighing me down.  I use this along with a arca-swiss clam and bracket for my tripod.  All three pieces work really well together.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

Been using the product for about 2 weeks now and it's the best thing I could've done for my back as well as just the ease of my photoshoots. From weddings where I needed to stop and help bustle a gown to my studio where I needed to quickly move a piece of lighting or change a lens. Don't want to be without it ever again!

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

Using this with a Canon 7D with battery grip and a Sigma 150-500mm telephoto lens, heavy to carry. Camera and lens ride nicely on my hip and is easy to release when I need to shoot. Pin is mounted to lens and the only draw back I have is the tripod mounting bracket keeps coming loose, will fix this with some lock-tite.

Finely able to get the weight off of my bad shoulder's and down to my hips. Camera and lens rid,e nicely on this holster. Will have to watch the pin as told to me by the manufactor as my camera and lens system is heavy.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I was first tempted to buy a similar but less expensive product, and wanted initially to buy some type of body rig to free up my hands so I can use two cameras while at an event shoot, and have been struggling to figure out just what would fit my needs. The reviews on this were very good; purchased it and it is very good. It fits me perfectly and the build quality is outstanding. I recommend this product.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I took a chance on a rather expensive belt and after 2 weeks in New Zealand outdoors I proclaim it fantastic.
I shoot with a full frame Canon 5D and use the big speed light with it. I hiked trails and walked streets. Very comfortable. The camera was always secure. It does make your profile wider but the ability to carry the weight on your waist as opposed to your neck or shoulder is wonderful. It quickly goes into the belt and back out again. And after you fiddle with removing the belt a few times you will A) find it a very secure closure and B) you will learn to get it off quickly and easily.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I use the SpiderPro for wildlife photography. Generally I use a large tripod mounted lens and then a smaller lens & body (Nikon 300mm f4pf) in the holster for when wildlife comes too close for the big lens. I also sometimes put a second body only in the holster so I can quickly change from full to crop body on the tripod mounted lens. I like the secure manner that it holds the camera. While not as quick on the draw as the Black Rapid strap I used to use, I like that the camera is not swinging around hitting things. Highly recommended.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I was very skeptical when I first saw this system at WPPI. I do not like slings or other camera straps that fasten to the mounting hole on the bottom of the camera as I use a tripod often. I thought it looked clunky and cumbersome too.
I fell in love with the Spider Holster the moment I tried it on. It is comfortable, takes the weight off the neck and moves it to the the hips and waist where it is easier to carry the load.  The cameras' stay put even with long lenses attached (I have the dual system and both cameras stay put and are easy to reach). I can actually move about rather quickly without worrying about the cameras falling or having them flop around getting damaged in the process. Additional safety comes in the form of a latch that locks, not allowing the camera mount to slide out of the holster.
The camera mounting bracket is made of cast steel and has a a spring-loaded, integral storage pocket for the included Alan wrench that tightens the mounting screw to the camera, a real welcome feature.
I mentioned that I do not like straps that fasten to the bottom mounting hole on the camera due to the fact that I use a tripod and usually have the tripod mount on my cameras. I have Manfroto tripods and found the mounting bracket can be fastened to the Spider mounting plate. In addition, the mounting plate stays firmly in place on the Spider mount unlike others I have tried.  Another big plus!
After purchasing the holster at the show, I fastened my 5D with the 24-70 lens and walked the exhibition all afternoon. After a few minutes, I did not even realize that it was there. that is how comfortable this belt is. when I did need the camera, it was right there and easy to retrieve.
Overall, the Spider Holster is very well thought out and of excellent
quality and construction. It is easy to wear and convenient to use. I am completely impressed!

I love this belt! It is so comfortable to wear on your hips. The camera locks or unlocks easily. The camera is not in your way and its so easy to pull out the camera. The belt is made of strong fabric with a velcro strip which I can hang from. Its that strong. I recommend this highly. I'm so glad my son, the photographer, put me on to it. Love, love, love!
