The only reason to pay more is to get autofocus. Really, in terms of optical performance it hardly gets any better than this.

The images come out looking sharp and the quality of the photos are good. I have no complaints other than when something internal became loose after a year of use. Seeing that it had a one-year warranty, I phoned the manufacturer Bower to let them know about the issue in hopes to have it replaced or fixed at least. However, they decided not work with me, saying that they have a "strict warranty policy". I got it on August 4, 2014 and I informed them of the issue on August 16, 2015. It was only a few days past warranty, not even a month and they couldn't cut me some slack for just a few days. Thanks Bower, I will not be recommending your unknown brand to friends like I did before.

Extremely good value

By Cass

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

Sharp, sturdy lens which performs on par with much more expensive lenses. Two drawbacks: a bit bulky and completely manual focus. The Nikon lens has a small cpu in it which gives you a an indicator if the focus point is sharp.

Honestly I see it as a chance to learn more while getting access to top notch performance.

Love it!

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

The Bower lens is exactly the same as the Samyang/Rokkinons. Focus confirmation for Nikon cameras works well. A bit of vignetting around the edges, but I actually like it, and it's easily remedied in LR anyway with the lens profiles. Colours are vibrant and saturated and images are sharp. AT f1.4 it can be tricky with such a small sliver in focus but when you nail it, it's just superb. I also own the 85mm f1.4 and the 135mm f2 Samyangs and I love them all, they just have a special something in their picture quality. Focus is very close - around 15cm not the 30cm marked on the lens. Well worth the relatively small amount of money it cost!

I didn't want to like it, but I do.

By Digitaltim

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

It's a large lens and slow to focus manually. It's my 4th Samyang lens so I had an idea of what to expect. On FX it produces sharp and semi wide pictures with good color. It easily creates out of focus areas that looks like decent Bokeh.. It's not worlds beyond my 24-85 VR or my 50mm 1.8d, but overall I do think this Samyang is a more capable lens. I will keep it for now.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

I read the reviews and was still sceptical about this lens but after using it this thing is awesome. Make shots with this lens just like you would with the lens that is $[$]. The only thing is this lens is manual focus only. There is no auto focus feature. So if you are not the best with manual focus then this lens is not for you.

    Great lens for the price

    By Mondo

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

Not a bad lens for the price. Yea its a little heavy but doesn't bother me. At 1.4 aperture the picture sharpness is not sharp. So I keep it at 2.8 from there picture quality is great. Great bokeh! It's a nice lens to have I like it so far no complaints. I would recommend this lens for anyone on a budget

    Great lens

    By Adam

    from Savannah, GA

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

Just as good as the Samyang version, only cheaper. Four stars due to the cheapo lens cap and hood. Only thing I've noticed is that my D7000 won't notice the half clicks in between full stops on the aperture ring. If I'm at 5.6 and click a half stop up, the camera will still register it as 5.6, when in reality it's 6.3. However this issue does not affect the light meter; when one tick over/under exposed, clicking a half stop will give you a correct exposure without changing the number displayed in the LCD.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

My favorite 35 1.4 is the Zeiss, I don't like the nikon 1.4, the nikon 1.8 is TOTALLY AWFUL, and I have yet to try the Sigma Art.

I recently used this lens for a video shoot, and it was quite lovely. Good bokeh, a little rainbow-ring type lens flare, but myself I liked it for the shoot and it does come with a hood so that could be prevented.

Sounds / feels a little hesitant to lock into my Nikon D7100, but no actual problems with it.

I'm picky but I think I really like this little gem.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

The Bower 35mm 1.4 lens is better than I expected it to be, and I had high expecations. It is decently sharp wide open. Stopping down to f/2 nets a big increase in contrast and by f/2.8 the lens is extremely sharp all over. What I like most is the smooth bokeh, those out-of-focus areas that render in a very pleasing way.

The downside is that this lens is very heavy, and focus can be tricky when shot below f/2.8. Live view with mangnification is pretty much a must if shooting wide open. It's especially critical for photographing people in low light situations. I've also tried this lens on a Sony NEX using focus peaking. It works very well with the exception of low contrast subjects. In those cases magnified focusing is recommended.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

I use this lens in a professional capacity as a wedding videographer. I use it on a pair of D600s and am incredibly impressed with it. I would say the most impressive aspect of this lens is the quality of the bokeh--it's really quite dreamy. I do wish it was just a little sharper at f/1.4 (maybe its my copy). The focus breathing is also pretty substantial with this lens. With that said, it's still quite good wide open and more than sufficient for video work.

If you're a videographer, this lens should be in your bag. The 24mm and 14mm by bower are also incredible. Don't have the 85mm (yet).

Of course, if you're strictly a videographer, you might look into the cine version of this lens.

Great, sharp lens for the money!

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon:

A fantastic bargain and truly a well made lens! Manual focus is the only downside to this lens. Despite some reviws, the Nikon focus confirmation is dead-on for my copy! Lucky or perhaps the manufacturer has tightened up quality control.
