Does this Sandisk SD card reader read/write files at faster speed over USB 2.0 than my built in computer's card reader??? I don't have USB 3 yet, and can't add it to my computer (all-in-one HP Touch Smart 600) given lack of space inside the all-in-one.
I couldn't find the answer to this question on reviews, in terms of specific speed rates, so I did my own testing. ***I'm not sure if these rates will apply to your computer as I don't know if your computer card reader reads at same speed as mine. I used a 64 GB SanDisk Extreme SDXC UHS-I card which writes/reads at maximum of 45 MB/second.
TRANSFERRING A 600 MB VIDEO FILE OVER USB 2.0:
1) Transfer from SD card to desktop:
Sandisk SD card reader (~30 MB/sec [~20 seconds]); My HP computer's SD card reader (~18 MB/sec [~30 seconds]).
2) Transfer from desktop to SD card:
Sandisk SD card reader (~20 MB/sec [~34 seconds]); My HP computer's SD card reader (~15 MB/sec [~43 seconds]).
I did the same tests with other various size files, including 1 GB video file, 32 GB of videos/photos, and 16.4 GB of photos/videos, and got similar rates.
Other issues- I agree that the magnetic mount is flimsy, but I got used to it, and it's not a big deal for me, but would prefer a tougher mount. It is a bit tougher than usual to get SD card into the slot, but I got used to it now, so not a big deal.
At least for my specific computer, this Sandisk Card reader transfers files at higher speed over USB 2 than my computer's SD card reader. The speed differences listed above are useful for me since I transfer large amounts of files and these speed differences become significant with large file transfers.

This model has big problems. In 2013 I changed four times this
Sandisk card reader. One reader I threw it in the trash. Problem: broken pin for CF. Changed twice a SanDisk card reader for 7 days. Problem: a broken and bent pin in the CF slot. I bought a fourth Sandisk card reader this year, he again does not work. Problem: does not recognize the SD card (hc, 16 GB). All my life I've used Sandisk cards and SanDisk card reader without any problems. Gentlemen engineers, what is this now? Be serious and solve this problem or I have to stop buying your products! (heavy heart).

Not much to review here. It's a card reader. It reads cards. Works fine. Would have given it 5 but it tips over easy. All good though.
Lightning Speeds. Love it
Great speed and fits almost anywhere, never really used or needed the stand though, makes everything be at a wierd angle and doesnt have enough grip to hold it in place when you want to remove a card.
A MUST HAVE DO ALL CARD READER
Long time pro photgrapher here. Bought this for the usb 3 speed. ..which is great. Construction quality is junk. I have never seen CF slot pins bend.. but several did within months of use.Â
Forget about it staying on that 'magnetic base'. Will always fall over!
This is a great card reader. Compact, flexible, and well built.
This is a great card reader that works with most memory cards that you might be working with. The stand connects to the device magnetically which is very cool, and makes for easy detachment (but not too easy that it doesn't stay on the stand.) Reasons I deduct 1 star from the 5: the cable is a bit short, about 3 feet, so running it behind your desk isn't really an option for most people; the device is a little larger that i was hoping for. It is a very sleek looking device though!
I only used this a few times. Now it won't read the SD card. The stand was worthless. Very disappointed.
Very well constructed and easy to use. Card reader mounts to base which is magnetic so that you can remove and reattach easily. The only issue is the base is lighter than the long usb cable which makes it tip easy if the cable isn't balanced properly on the desk. I like the fact that it can be stored vertical which takes less space for desk top placement. What else can you say about a simple card reader, it works well.
This reader works great and fast in USB 3.0 port. The stand is a nice plus.
Just what I needed... one ring to rule them all... oh, I mean one device to input all manner of cards. I shot with a mix of cameras this past weekend and wound up importing microSD (GoPro), SD (Panasonic) and CF (Canon) cards from the shoot. Woot!
i'm no expert or even a rank amateur ... purchased for use w/i-pad for photo download. upon power-up response revealed inadequate power supply. Works on the Mac. Now i i-cloud i-pad to Mac and Mac to my storage card... simple ... yuk yuk yuk
We had a family reunion where several people took pictures. After the activities, those photographers handed us there memory cards. I ordered the ImageMate All-in-One USB 3.0 Reader / Writer from B&H and was not disappointed. It accommodates several different types of memory cards. We easily moved all of the pictures from those cards to our Mac laptop for editing.
Quick and easy no set up required.
had the same but USB 2.0. purchased this one for faster D/L to computer and it does exactly that!!
it's nice to have all the card types in one reader (except CFast 2.0).
The 4th time I got disappointed again by Sandisk ImageMate All-in-One USB 3.0 Reader/Writer.
CF slot pin got spoiled for the fourth time. I lost my money 4 times for this manufacturing defect.
Always got the reply from local store that Physical damage is not under warranty! So frustrating!
I can down load My
Compaq flash cards plus I think som over cards
ImageMate All in one usb 3.0 writer, was disappointed, am sure was a factory overlook, would not connect properly, discarded it as cost of returning is not what I want to do. Other than that, B & H is great, they had no way of knowing there was a problem with it.
I own two of these, had to replace one right away and now the replacement one has failed. I'm moving on to a more reliable brand.
Whenever I transported the card reader in my camera bag, the pins would bend and I would spend a lot of time trying to get them straight again, most frustrating!
