Excellent sharpness, good colors, excellent mechanical construction. Fairly compact and not too heavy.

The only flaws are the D800 sometimes thinks it's a DX lens (so need to turn off Auto-DX) and Lightroom does not automatically recognize the lens profile for lens correction (so have to tell it that this is a Tokina, then it works fine).

The Nikon 16-35 VR is marginally better but for double the price the difference is not worth it. And the 17-35 2.8 is 3x the price.

This is an excellent buy.

First of all, this lens is great. Its sharp in most of the frame stopped down. It feels strong and durable. Low distortion and not too bad vignetting.

However, my first little problem is this lens front hood thread blocks the Lee wide angle adapter from attaching to the front of lens.
I might be too demanding of this product, but my biggest problem with this lens is in the cold the focus goes beyond infinity and wont let me bring it back until it warms up. It doesnt freeze, I think the materials shrink and distrupt the focusing. It works perfect once it warms up again. I live in North Dakota where it is below freezing usually over 5 months of the year. Happy with my purchase

Comments about Tokina 17-35mm f/4 Pro FX Lens for Nikon Cameras:

I needed to make a quick purchase for some real estate photography. I was hesitant in buying this because I have never bought a lens made by anyone but Nikon, but the price difference on a wide angle lens is something I just couldn't swing at the time. This lens was a nice surprise, it has definitely done the job with no complaints. Its very clear. I've used it for real estate and portraits. I'm glad that i chose this lens and i would do it again.

This affordable lens provides a large angle of view, even for small rooms such as bedrooms and baths. I chose it over others, because it takes filters. I purchased a uv filter to protect it and may eventually purchase a circular polarizer, should I decide to use it for landscapes.

Comments about Tokina 17-35mm f/4 Pro FX Lens for Nikon Cameras:

After reading many reviews, good and bad, I decided to try it out for myself.
I was concerned about the softness in the corners and the 'slow' F/stop.
I tested it extensively with my Nikon D610 all through the focal lenths and in third of a stop increments.
My tests were against taking a picture of a brick wall and also a real life scenic shots.
The results were very pleasing: The lens is soft wide open at 17mm, but to a very accepable degree. Stopped down to f/5.6 it became minimal and completely disappeared at f/8.
At focal point 20mm there was NO soft corners even wide open at f/4 and very sharp throughout the picture- corner to corner.
I did not notice any CA with this lens.
Basically, for me- this lens works perfectly. Before buying this lens I rented the Nikon 14-24mm and played around with it. I don't feel the incremental difference (if there is any) justifies the price.
I was thinking of the Tokina 16-28mm, but for my purposes, i.e. being able to put filters on, I skipped the latter and bought the 17-35mm.

This lens gives me some reach and is the perfect combination between extreme wide angle to medium wide angle.

If you consider buying any lens,it's best to read the reviews, getting a sense of its limitations, test it out and decide after looking at these areas- and only then decide if it works for you.

I am very satisfied with this lens.

Very clear, sharp results even at 17mm. A little slow at auto focus in low light conditions, but using it mostly outdoors for landscape it's not much of an issue. 82mm filter, would have been happier if it was 77mm.

I shoot interiors with this lens and it has been a life saver on some jobs. The glass is very sharp, (Nikon 16-35mm a bit sharper), and has very low distortion and little vignetting. It is well built and reasonably light to carry and has a high quality lens coating to prevent flair as well as close focusing capability. Excellent value for the money and you can achieve pro results.

Comments about Tokina 17-35mm f/4 Pro FX Lens for Nikon Cameras:

Landscapes, townscapes, interior of buildings. It is fast-focusing, relatively small and light. The pictures are very good with little CA and excellent bokeh. For the price this is a a great addition.
The lens is not a fast one, so if you need it for low light the Tamron maybe better. However this is one of the few lenses at this focal length that has the ability to take filters and is safer with no protruding glass- especially on long trips etc.
