I bought this in January 2017 and has been using it for taking long time exposure pictures. It is a great product and I find no problem using it. If any, I think the Canon 3-pin connection does not feel like connecting very sturdy. However, it does not bother me using it. Furthermore, you could not beat the price compared to the Canon one TC-80N3. 5 starts overall!

This is just my experience and I'm only one person but, boy was this a disappointment! I used it exclusively for shooting timelapse photography and for the first two months it worked as designed. After about two months, using it exactly as I always had, the shutter randomly wouldn't trigger every couple of intervals, ruining the timelapse shots. And then on my way to shoot at Niagra falls the Shutterboss just failed completely. I checked the user manual, forums, pressed the reset button, swapped the batteries. It just doesn't work. Never got it wet or dirty or dropped it. It just doesn't work. Still can't figure it out.

Lightly used accessory but when I was light painting it just stopped working. What a disappointment. Less than 2 years old...I have watches that still work after 10 years. Can't recommend this one.

I needed a second timer/remote switch for the eclipse. Ordered at the last minute and B&H delivered. Shutter boss was easy to learn and use. It preformed flawlessly for the eclipse.

pin connections loose

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

I bought this to operate a 2nd Canon for the eclipse but found the connection pins fit too loosely and won't fire the camera or fall off unless held or taped to the camera. Returning for refund. The display and programming operation are nice otherwise.

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

I like:
- AAA batteries instead of more expensive non-rechargeables.
- multicontroller like on cameras for navigating settings, and an easy to understand display (I have to keep the manual around to figure out my other remote).

I like the remote control itself, but it would be better value if it had interchangeable connector cables (common with other brands), so that it could easily be used with other camera models.

I don't like: the camera connector. It isn't made to spec: the female pins seem to be larger diameter than the male pins in the camera, so the electrical connection may be suspect. Also, the plastic shell of the connector needs to be jammed into the camera to stay in place, and makes me wonder about long term wear on the camera connector. I'd be concerned except I plan to chop the cable anyway (I will add a custom connector to use this through an extreme-weather camera housing).

ShutterBoss II Works Great as Interval Timer

By Ralph

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

ShutterBoss II worked great for the total solar eclipse. I set the interval timer up for 1 minute. It took experimenting with it for it to work with auto exposure bracketing on my Canon 5D III; the 5D was set up with high speed continuous shooting and using two custom programs for 5 shot bracketing and 7 shot bracketing. I set the LONG exposure time on the ShutterBoss II to 1 second and that triggered the auto bracketing. I may have gotten more photos than necessary, but the bracketing was accomplished.

Fantastic tool to have, very versatile, feels well built, reliable, and for the price why would you buy the brand version at twice the price when this does everything it supposed to do and more. Hasn't failed me yet and I am glad I have it my bag.

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

I've used this several times now, for panorama shoots and wildlife close-up work. I'm very happy with it - it worked flawlessly each time. My only comment (not complaint) is that if I hadn't purchased the extension cable, the standard cable would have been way too short. They might consider a 10' default length.

The instructions need some work, but an otherwise great product. Timed exposures, intervalometer, self timer and just a shutter release. Good build. Easy to use in spite of the instructions. Highly recommended.

Stopped working after only 10 months

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

My wife purchased this from B&H on 9/22/16 for me and it worked well until it didn't. It was not used heavily and in the middle of a long exposure session early in July 2017 it stopped working. The trigger button would no longer work and the long exposure setting started taking photos every ten seconds when set to 6 minutes. Also the three-pin plug doesn't fit as snuggly as the canon plug. That isn't a big deal but the reliability is.

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

Bought this entirely because it was on sale, as my old Intervalometer didn't work with any of my newer cameras. Turned out to be a pretty good decision-- it's easier to navigate than my old one and did a perfectly good job even in the transitioning temperatures I used it in.

So far, I have nothing bad to say about it. It did its job without any hiccups.

Used it to make the video below.

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

Three words: on/off switch. To quote Buff, 'Hello! McFly!'. Seriously though, having to remove batteries from a trigger so they're not dead the next time you go out.. just enough to torque you off. Learned that lesson the hard way. Suppose that's what you get with a $10 trigger though. Gots no one to blame but yourself.

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

Does what it's supposed to. Pretty new, so I will update this if it has any problems. My only issue is its short cord means that leaving it means it hangs, my guess is this is the cause of many of the negative reviews about the cord having separations.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me...

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Canon with 3-Pin Connection:

I'll echo several of the negative reviews of this product. I've bought not one, but two of the Vello remote switches and been let down by both. Each worked fine for several months, and then suddenly, for no discernible reason, each became sporadic, only occasionally triggering the shutter as intended. Fortunate, in each case, I was shooting locally and had already gotten the shots I wanted. But had I been traveling or the timing less forgiving, the failure of this product would have ruined my shoot. While I was drawn to the compelling price of the Vello product, I've learned my lesson twice over and will now be purchasing the cannon shutter release.
