I use the Version II to activate the shutter in mirror-up mode for the Nikon D800E. This is a big help, since it avoids camera shake on a high-resolution image. I don't touch the camera during the shutter activation process. This appears to make a big difference in the clarity of the final result. I gave it 5 stars due to the pricing and features vs. the Nikon equivalent. It appears to be a worthwhile accessory for the Nikon D800E camera system, which, due to the high-resolution sensor, makes vibration reduction important.

I've had this unit for about 2 years and used it intermittently for long exposure and interval shooting. It worked very well the few times I used it. Just recently decided to use it more frequently to reduce camera movement caused by pushing the shutter. Found that it worked only intermittently causing me to miss some great shots. Finally determined that the cable connection to the unit has been damaged. Not sure what caused it but I don't believe it was excessive use or mishandling.

Dependable multi-function wired release

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

This is a very nice, dependable wired release with a lot of functions. Batteries not needed for basic trigger function, takes power via. 10-pin from camera. Batteries needed for interval, timer functions, etc. and the batteries last a long time.

Looking for a great Remote Switch?

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

Very easy to use and a bit more intuitive than another generic brand that I purchase a couple years ago. No issues with its operation, and it appears well designed and constructed. I use it with the holder that straps to one of the tripod legs, so it's always handy. Nice intervalometer.

Works great!

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

Batteries were even included, and the product works just as advertised. If I have to pick a nit, the collar that screws into the camera is hard to get going, but it doesn't affect operation, and hasn't posed a problem- I just plug the connector in and go.

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

Surprisingly this is a good solid unit for the price! Instructions are clear and to the point, wiring from the unit at both connections very well reinforced . Only small negative issue viewing screen maybe at time a bit hard to view with some of it's figures .

I purchased these for macro and firework photography to avoid camera shake. The XXX for a Nikon 10 pin works great. Fits snuggly and secure with the screw-in camera attachment.

ShutterBoss Timer Remote is an excellent product

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

I purchased this to replace a Nikon remote timer whose cord had frayed. The ShutterBoss is far less expensive and is as well made (same mfgr???) as the Nikon version. I am very pleased with it.

Very Good

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

Works well and is very inexpensive compared to alternative options. The plastic feels a bit thin and cheap, but it gets the job done. The cable is a bit short, so I would look into the extender.

I used the remote together with the Vello 10' Remote Shutter Extension Cable For Nikon 10-Pin Connection and it gave me a great reach to work on self portraits. Couldn't be happier.

Worked well, but...

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

I bought this product to use doing variable star photometry/astrophotography with my Nikon D200. At first I was thrilled with the performance. It made my photography an order of magnitude easier. The trouble is, before it was four months old the 10-pin plug went and the thing stopped working. The plug seems to be the weak link with these off-brand timers and releases. If you are a light user of these things then it will probably serve you well. Heavier users will want to get something more sturdy.

Great set of features. Poor quality, won't last.

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

In theory this should be a great remote; it has a strong set of features and is easy to use.

Unfortunately, this unit stopped triggering the shutter just past the warranty expiration period.

I engaged the company and they are not interested in standing by their product.  Look for alternate solutions if you want a remote to last beyond the 1 year warranty period.

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

This product works great and it's half the price of the version with the cameras brand name on it. Learning curve is a bit longer than I would like. I actually had to read the instructions.

Suckered again, last time!

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

So the reviews are good, I want a remote that has on on/off switch unlike the twice as costly Nikon, here it is...I thought. Maybe the second time I used it, plug in, set MLU...press button....nothing. Mess around about five minutes, what did I miss? Start fumbling with wires, click! A short in a near brand new unit? I'm not sure about these stellar reviews, this is my SECOND bad unit, the first went in the trash long ago. Sorry Vello, not again!!!!
Next time I'll pay junk price for junk....

Comments about Vello ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:

I use the ShutterBosII Timer Remote Switch on my Nikon D800E for timed exposures, time-lapse and all around shooting white using slow shutter speeds. The price was right compared to the Nikon. I like the lighted timer function so I can see what time has lapsed during darkness
