The things that make this item great are: 1) FAST - High RPM drive means noticeably faster access times than most large TB externals. USB 3.0 means fast transfer speeds.2) Cheap - Post hurricane storage prices have not been coming down at all. [$] for fast 4TB is a STEAL. I bought this as a drive to attach to my WD TV media center. I was a little bit worried that the USB 3.0 wouldn't work with my media box, but there have not been any problems at all with USB 2.0 backwards compatibility. The USB 3.0 boost in speed is noticeable when I connect to my computer.Another thing I like about it is the 2 year warranty. WD just bought Hitachi. I was skeptical about buying a non Seagate or WD drive, but now the drive is backed by WD and I feel a bit better. Because of the hurricane the only drive to currently compare this to is a seagate goflex 4tb (WD does not make a 4tb drive). I am turned off by the design of the goflex (it has to stand up, it has a weird base interface), so this drive's simple design is a big plus for me. However, it is oversized (much fatter/thicker than my WD Elements drives), and it has a bright blue blinking neon light that can't be turned off that can be kind of annoying. I think these drives are meant to be stackable, but the casing doesn't have the strongbox feel that the WD Elements drives do. Also it runs a bit hot. So I'm hesitant. All in all, though, these things have been running great. As soon as I plugged it into my PC it ran fine. I haven't tried the free 3gb of cloud storage, so can't speak to that feature.

Aside from the drive not being very fast on my 2012 fully loaded iMac27, one of the two drives I bought (not from B&H) lasted one year then died. Fortunately, It was covered under warranty and I shipped it back and got the drive replaced. The second one just made it past the two year warranty and just died tonight.

I used one drive to back up to TimeMachine on one partition and media and project backup on a second partition, which was then was mirrored to the second drive. I have very little confidence in the replacement drive lasting much longer and I am shopping for two new drives to purchase now.

I have purchased only Seagate drives since 1996 with great success. This is the first time I purchased this brand. I would not recommend these drives at all.

Comments about HGST 4TB Touro Deskpro Hard Drive 7200 RPM:

The reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because I have not owned it long enough to be certain.

I bought this drive to back up my hard drive and preserve my data. Therefore, reliability was my primary criteria. Based on my research, of all capacity of drives, 4 terabyte drives are the most stable and least likely to crash. Furthermore my research revealed that HGST Makes the drives that are least likely to crash , thus the best made drives. If you want to see what I was looking at, Google The following: Hard Drive Reliability Stats for Q2 2015. The stats come from one of the largest cloud backup services, and refer to tens of thousands of drives that they have in-service. Every article I saw out on the web about the reliability of drives seems to be based on the same statistics.

The drive case is thick and chunky. I believe this is intentional to give space around drive to help dissipate heat and to keep the drive cooler, but I'm not sure. That fits in with the reliability of these drives, though a drawback if you are looking for portability.

It comes formatted for PC, but I ran Mac Disk Utility and erased/reformatted the drive. It is easy to do.

Used to add storage to a Xbox One Day One addition. Hooked up quickly and was using it very quickly. Games do load a bit faster than the internal 500MB 5400RPM drive that is inside the XB1.

I have this plugged into a USB 3.0 port in a Windows 7 PC. It is unbelievably slow to read/write even small DOCX files. It took me over 30 days to convince myself fully of this. Too late to return it now. I'm extremely disappointed in this drive.

Comments about HGST 4TB Touro Deskpro Hard Drive 7200 RPM:

I use the product to back up multiple PCs as a NAS was far too slow and the NAS dumbed down interface was unsatisfactory. I removed the cloud storage offer as it was too small to be useful and buying more would be pointless and expensive. It does take a long time to backup 2+TB of data but USB3 speed was good and much faster than to a NAS. Though the enclosed HDD is still the most reliable HGST/Hitachi and not from the new owners, I like to keep offline between backups to extend life.

Pros: Reasonable price, 7200 rpm.Cons: I've purchased three units, two are fine, but third out of box has a plastic piece inside the housing apparently loose and will have to exchange at B&H. I realize things happen in manufacturing, and this may not affect function if the drive, but with item used for media data, need better Quality Control.

Comments about HGST 4TB Touro Deskpro Hard Drive 7200 RPM:

I'm happy with it! Works for Mac or PC, has a ton of space, and so far have had no problems with it (it's been about a month.) Set up was easy peasy, and the machine itself doesn't get too hot. The whole set up is super simple for storage and time machine uses as well. Only thing is that the fact that it needs a wall plug-in with no on/off switch is slightly annoying, because you have to unplug whenever you're done instead of pushing a button -- but it's pretty big and meant to be an at-home-use drive anyway, so not too big a deal.

Though I've only had this for a month, I've used 1 TB touros for the past 3 years, and I'm extremely happy with them. I've used them A BUNCH and taken them around, and have never once had an issue with them, so I'm a fan of htis brand.

I used the 4TB Touro Deskpro Hard Drive 7200 RPM for backing up my computer, which had two failures. It was quick and easy to store my data to the Touro. I did some comparative shopping, and the price I paid was very reasonable. I also purchased the two year warranty in case of drops and spills.

Pros:Tons of space. Hard to complain about 4TB. And it is reasonably fast. The price/performance is good.Cons:Feels cheap. Noisy. If it has been idle it takes maybe 15-20 seconds to wake up and open for use. Mac users will have to jump through some extra hoops with formatting; the website is not clear, but their search function yielded necessary QA for steps on formatting.

Bought this to replace a Seagate unit that had failed. Originally connected via USB2, and found it to be incredibly slow. Moved it to my other system that has USB3 and found again that it so much slower than my other Seagates. Probably won't return it, but it has been assigned to very limited use.

Use this to backup large image and video library. Faster 7200rpm speed an asset. A breeze to install.

Great price for what you get. I had a seagate 1.5tb usb 2.0 5900rpm's, and it was in the same price range when I purchased it.

The 4th drive out performes my old one easily!
