I was a little skeptical at first if this small bag would fit my SLR with wide angle attached and 2 other lenses but it worked out perfect. Although I might be defeating the purpose with packing tight and not being able to use all of the handy storage areas, It carries what I only need for my trip and its not too bulky and looks casual! Everything I look for in a perfect camera bag. It all depends on what you use.

I bought this based on a recommendation from a few dicussion threads and blogs. I used this to carry a Leica M8 with one lens attached and a couple lenses with the SD24 flash and a Polaris light meter.

Needless to say, all of these barely fit in this bag.

The shoulder strap is also waay to thick. The velcro silencer is next to useless..as you will just end up not closing your bag properly and have your expensive camera equipment fall into a concrete floor.

So I bit the bullet and bought the Billingham Hadley Pro. If you are buying this bag because you think the Billingham is expensive, I'm telling you that it's worth it...don't do what I did where I ended up spending more.

Perfect design and execution, just too small for my needs

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

I'd give the Retrospective 5 two stars, since I just returned it because it's too small for me. BUT, that's my problem; clearly it's the right size for the needs of the overwhelming majority of reviewers here. Sooooo.... since i just returned the 5 and ordered a 7 - here's a review of the design and execution of the 5. Pinestone Grey color is out of this world, and the canvas is tough-looking yet soft enough to not worry me about the equipment to go inside. I love it. (It's still pretty nice-looking for those who don't want to advertise the valuable contents: not as fine as Billingham Hadley line, but much nicer than Domke's canvas.) Sewing, thoughtfulness and execution of the features, and looks just can't be improved upon. read the other reviews and watch the youtubes regarding the uses for the features (pockets everywhere) and the quality of everything from the velcro (or not) closures to the ample, no-slip shoulder pad. I'm already duplicating all the plusses that are covered in the other reviews, so i'll stop here, except for explaining why it was too small for me. I'm taking a X-T1 and Fuji X lenses (32 - on the body-, 90 and 16) on a trip. Although they all fit, there is no margin. It's a squeeze. I can stand to have a bigger bag if it will give me more flexibility, and I'm sure the 7 will do the trick. One thing that jumped out at me in one of the reviews here was what steered me away from the bag last fall: "The problem is they preserved all of the features of the larger bags even though this bag is too small for these features to be useful." I agree 100 %. Looking forward to the Retrospective 7. By the way, I do have a Hadley Pro that is perfect, except for the too-fancy-for-some-trips aspect.

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

Nice bag. Holds a surprising amount of gear while remaining comfortable. In mine I carry an A7Rii with an attached 24-70/4 Zeiss (hood in shooting position), four spare batteries, a small flash, a polarizing filter, a battery charger for the A7Rii, a combination charger and power bank for the flash batteries, a bulb blower, lens cleaning solution and microfiber cloths, an SD card reader, a neck strap and wrist strap, a lenspen, a white balance card, a small note pad, a pen, a rain sleeve for my camera, and the rain cover for the bag. The bag has side strap to which I have attached carabiners for clipping items like hats, keys, and a water bottle carrier. Highly recommended.

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Sandstone and Leather):

I use it with a Fuji XT2, and it is the perfect size for carrying around the camera with 16-55mm f/2.8 attached, 4-5 batteries, memory card wallet, lens brush and small flash, plus a guidebook (for whatever city I'm in), passport and wallet. Looks good, comfortable strap makes it nice to carry, and quality seems very good.

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

Its smaller than I thought, but maybe that will ensure I only take what I need....been tempted to send back since day one. The material in look and feel is very different than I imagined...its sort of a thick tweed that might be on a couch. Because its so different, I wish they would have shown a close up to keep people from being disappointed.

Just right for MTF

By Bob

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Gray with Brown Leather):

Small, good looking well made. Does not look like a camera bag, no logos and carried just he right amount of MFT (micro four thirds) equipment for me. In the bag I have two GX8 bodies with lenses attached. On one - the Leica 200-400 with lens shade reversed. This fits lefts to right. One the other is a 12 - 60. Also in the bag, A 60 macro. 15 prime, 42.5 prime. two flashes. Assorted filters, small reflector, wireless remote triggers and i could still comfortable fit another body or lens.

Shoulder strap is 59 inches. easy to wear over the should or cross chest. Well thought out - with strong velcro and buckle under the flap. For when you need the bag to open and close silently - the velcro quickly hides away. Making the bag open and close silently. You can also fold the flap back leaving the bag wide open making it easy to work out of the bag changings lenses etc.

Well padded, feels stiff when you first unpack the bag - softens nicely in a day a so.

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

I still can't believe how much I can fit into this one bag! I got it for travel purposes but also for engagement shoots and to carry during weddings. It's ideal always. I ride my bike with it and it's very comfortable. I don't have to worry about the bag accidentally slipping open because it's so secure.
I highly recommend it!

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

I wish the material was nicer for weddings but it's super practical for travel and weddings as well. It's surprising how much I can fit in it!! I got an Ona bag before this one and had to return it. This was a much better investment!!!

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Sandstone):

Lately been shooting macro at a nursery, thus hot, tight and people. Will carry camera on tripod along with the Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag which will conveniently carry an additional lens, flashlight, filters, small diffuser and reflector, lens cleaning materials, towel (for me), wallet and phone. No need to schlep around a backpack in these conditions. Overall very nice. Great construction and wide color/style choices. Works for me rather well.

Think Tank, think well made and thought out, its amazing what will fit in a Think tank bag.
I love the larger Think Tank bag I have that holds 2 bodies and 4 lenses but i was looking for a 1 body / 2 lens small bag for quick day use or nights out when i don't want to carry a full kit around.

Think Tank has thoughtfully designed its camera bags for usefulness. They've considered what photo enthusiasts need and have delivered.

This bag is well-made, intelligently designed. I got it to replace my OnaBag "Prince Street" which is too boxy and not supported by ONA -- they could not replace a shoulder strap pad.

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

This is my third Think Tank Photo camera bag, which I purchased for a trip to a foreign country. I wanted a nondescript camera bag that would fit in an urban environment without being conspicuous. The only manufacturer label on the outside of the bag is placed on the back where it is concealed when I am wearing the bag. The bag's construction is typical of Think Tank Photo -- thoughtful design with high quality materials. When I was packing my Fuji X-E2s and lenses, I realized that the bag was too small to carry all of my Fujifilm lenses which forced me to be more selective in the lenses I planned to take. Currently, my Retrospective 5 contains: Fuji X-E2s with 18-55mm lens attached, Fujifilm 10-24mm lens, Fujifilm 55-200mm lens, Nissin i40 electronic flash with dome, Fuji RR-90 remote release, two extra Fujifilm batteries, Ruggard four-pocket filter pouch, microfiber cleaning cloth, and a Manfrotto Pixi Evo mini tripod slipped into an external pocket. It is a very compact kit which contains a focal length range of 10-200mm (15-300mm in 35mm equivalent), in an inconspicuous, high quality camera bag.

I wanted a smaller bag for vacation travel. After 30 years of DSLR photography I have added a Fujifilm mirrorless system. I chose for my kit 3 prime lenses along with the usual extras. The Retrospective 5 bag is perfect for my needs. It has loads of extra pockets. The dividers can be customized for camera and lenses. The build quality is superb, I have no question that it will last for years. Also it has an included rain cover that is a very nice addition. I have no reservations about recommending this bag

Comments about Retrospective 5 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

I've only had the Retrospective 5 for a while, but it seems perfect. It has room for a mirrorless body and a couple of other lenses, and plenty of space for batteries, cards, etc. The only minor quibble is that the rain hood is pretty much a joke, but I probably wouldn't have used it anyway. I took it out of the bag and reclaimed the space!

fits nicely in the back pocket!

Finally, getting away from the traditional "camera bag" look. I love what Think Tank has done with bags in terms of style and functionality. I bought the Retrospective 5 and 7 for my mirrorless system and they are perfect. Great for walking around the city, traveling or even as my "grab & go" bag. The 5 has enough space for camera, several lenses, flash, and accessories. It is stylish - my wife doesn't tease me about looking like a tourist anymore.

Thanks Think Tank for great looking, yet very functional bags.
