I use the i1 for linearizing profiles in my Bowhaus True Black and White RIP for use with my Canon IPF6300. The Bowhaus RIP accepts data input from the i1 automatically. The ICC profile for Canson Infinity Platine from the manufacturer was laying down too much ink and the profiling really cleaned that up.

I also use the i! to profile my 24" LCD. I have an old i1 Display2 and recently profiled my monitore, when I redid the profiling, the new i1 did a more accurate profile.

The included hardware to calibrate, mount the spectro to the strip reader panel and mount the spectro to the monitor are well designed, snap in firmly (almost too firmly at the beginning, but that was just because it is new--I would want it to be any other way).

I am torn about giving it 5 stars because of the price. I don't ever see myself using the projector calibrator, and would have preferred to not have to pay for it. But since I can't rule that use out in the future, I went with five stars.

Oh yeah—the case is brilliant. It is design so if you accidentally open in up upside down, the gear won't fall all over the place. Nice job X-Rite!

All in all a solid piece of gear to keep my Black and White, and Color processes where I want them.

If you order this, please be aware that it *only* calibrates RBG printers! We have an Epson Stylus Pro 7800 series printer, and even though the inks are CMYK, the software thinks it's an RGB printer, and calibrates it just fine. We also have a Xerox 7800 laser printer which also has CMYK cartridges, yet the software thinks it's a CMYK printer! So, I printed out the calibration pages for the 7800, scanned away, but when I went to save the profile, the software told me that I wasn't licensed to save CMYK profiles, and I needed to connect the correct dongle! It was nice that the software let me go through the whole process before telling me this, and even nicer that this restriction isn't displayed somewhere! As an aside, the software, from a user perspective, is terrible. I contacted their customer support, and they confirmed this restriction and said I needed the Publisher 2 version of the software. So far, I'm not terribly impressed with the product, or the company.

Best on the Market

Comments about X-Rite i1Photo Pro 2 Color Management Kit for Photographers:

In my opinion X-rite makes the finest, easy to operate, affordable color management system on the market.
Making your own profiles for printer, paper and ink makes this product pay for itself in reduced waste of materials alone. Add the fact that once your preliminary calibrations are done, you will also save time and increase print production. This updated model, allows you to profile camera and projector for consistent reliable color from display, projection or print. I had purchased two of these units for our college back in 2009 and they proved to be an invaluable teaching tool for my students, many who have gone on to start their own photo businesses.

Easy to Use Quality Product for Making Your Own icc Profiles

Comments about X-Rite i1Photo Pro 2 Color Management Kit for Photographers:

I purchased the i1Photo Pro 2 as an upgrade to my i1Display Pro as the latter device is only useful for display calibration.

The i1PP2 is a nicely assembled kit and comes in a semi-rigid case that contains all the components, manual, and software. The workflow looks to be about the same as with the i1Display Pro.

Monitor calibration was straightforward and essentially the same process as with the i1Display Pro. I always use the maximum number of display colors during calibration as this option only takes a few extra minutes.

The i1PP2 calibration device must be calibrated before each use. This is easily done with the device holder that contains a calibrated white tile. Calibration takes a matter of seconds.

I profiled three Epson papers using the basic workflow and the 1600 color patch option. Scanning is pretty easy using the rigid backup board and ruler. It took me about 15 minutes to scan 1600 color patches so I recommend this option if using the basic workflow. Make sure to turn color management off when printing color targets. I only had to repeat a few scans while profiling three different papers.

The prints that I initially made using the custom profiles are pretty close to what I see on my monitor, both as to relative brightness and color. They are definitely better than the paper manufacturer's profiles. I am still working with the i12PP2 product and haven't yet tried different options such as the advanced workflow. If you really want to get better color management and take this capability in house this product is worth purchasing. There are less expensive devices available but the x-rite i1PP2 is a quality product that seems, so far, to give reliable results. My 4-star rating is based on current experience with the product.

      Very good investment

Comments about X-Rite i1Photo Pro 2 Color Management Kit for Photographers:

Working with other calibrator systems ranging from colorimeters and spectrophotometers, I have to say this is the best cause it does it all. The Isis system was tempting cause of its ease of use but it doesn't include a monitor calibration system. I use this with my Eizo graphics monitor using the monitor's hardware calibration software cause I know a spectrophotometers is better than using the colorimeter included with the monitor. I also use this device to make a custom printer/paper profile with 1600 patches, although I find very little difference between 800-1600 patches, I do it with 1600 cause I can. You can also make up to 6000 patches although i feel it's overkill. I haven't unleashed the full power of the software and hardware's resources but excited to one day use it. Haven't tried the spot measurement yet or the quality assurance of the monitor yet cause the monitor is brand new, will probably try around a year or so later. So far, I love the device and I'm hoping it'll last me many years with no issues. By the way, with the ruler, it takes me physically, about 20 minutes to scan 1600 patches on a dual pass for the use of the OBC feature. Good but and highly recommend for those that do their own printing.

Comments about X-Rite i1Photo Pro 2 Color Management Kit for Photographers:

If like me you have been taking a piece meal approach to color management using different profiling apps for the scanner, printer and monitors save yourself a lot of hassle and grief - buy the i1Pro 2 Profiler for Photographers. I now have a set of profiles that are coordinated and consistent -- and were very easy to produce using the i1Photo package. I already have IT8 Reflective and Transmissive Targets, but the kit does not provide any. You will need one or both to profile a scanner - but you can use the X-Rite Color Checker Card if you have one.

I have a ColorMunki but wanted to get that extra this Pro version of the hardware and software could offer. Calibration of both the display and paper profiles was easy and got me that extra I was looking for in the darker areas of my photos using 16bit workflow. Each paper profile provided exactly the same color and tonal values and was as close to on screen projected viewing as I've ever seen.

Comments about X-Rite i1Photo Pro 2 Color Management Kit for Photographers:

The final output product of this X-Rite calibration tool does everything it says it will do. I am extremely happy and pleased with the final results. What I see on my monitor now matches exactly what I see coming out of my printer. That was my original purpose for purchasing this device. If I can now get my camera (Canon 5D Mark III) to match the monitor and/or get my scanner and/or my projector to match what I see on my monitor than I will consider it bonus points. The process of calibrating the monitors was pretty straight forward after using the X-Rite i1Photo Pro 2. However, the process of calibrating the printer (Epson 4900) was a bit of a surprise at the amount of effort and time required. It requires reading in over 2 thousand colored tiles. That takes some time. It became much easier once I adjusted to the routine and the process. In the end, I do not think it will take as much time, nor effort, the second time around now that I know what I am doing. The important thing is the results of all this money, time, and effort, and that is worth shouting about. What I see on my monitors after much work in Photoshop CC or Lightroom 5 is exactly what I see come out of my printer. It was worth the price - no further comments needed. It is top of the line in the final outcome.

Somewhat unusal application. Three separate, different manufacture LCD monitors in a 3 monitor wide desktop using Win7 Ultimate 64.
Does a better profiling job on monitors than the Color Munki it replaced. Does not match all three monitors without minor monitor manual adjustment after profiling.
Does a much better job profiling printer than the Munki did.
Happy with the purchase even though it is not perfect with my PC system.

We use this product in a museum setting were color accuracy is very important. After checking the color profiles in Colorthink we saw a greater gamut in the new Pro 2 profiles, in the red an yellow areas, compared to our older EyeOne unit. The puck balances better on the monitor as well. I haven't checked print profiles yet.
