Canon has done it again with this amazing camera, it has an excellent performance and image quality way better that the 5D and 7D.As a Director / DP, I've been shooting with HDSLR's because I like the flexibility that this cameras offer and as a 7D owner, I was looking for an upgrade that would give me the same benefits and that would play well with the accessories that I already had.The 1DC has it all, amazing 4K, really good build quality and ergonomics, unreal low light performance and 60 fps at 1080p, these features makes it the perfect tool for filmmaking and commercial production.

I'm a high end wedding videographer and bought this to up my game. While it's a great, solid camera, it just isn't much better than a 5Dm3. The most useful feature is the full 1080p at 60fps, but that's about the only benefit I've gotten from this. The mjpeg compression makes it impossible to shoot in 4K for same day edits because no editing program can handle it. Premiere technically allows you to edit it without converting to prores, but it's so choppy/slow that it's impossible to edit (this has been tried on both the fastest current macbook pro possible as well as the new mac pro). If you don't need to edit quickly, you might find the 4K to be awesome and worth the money.

The main feature was excited about was the ability to shoot in c-log. Unfortunately c-log is completely useless because of the well known banding problem. In shadows and skies, or anything with subtle color transitions there is SIGNIFICANT banding when shooting in c-log (wish I had known before I bought, but researched afterwards and found out that it's a well know issue).

All in all, it's a decent camera that produces images you're used to seeing on a 5D. If you can handle having to convert everything to prores in order to edit 4k, this camera might be worth it. If you're in a fast paced environment where quick turnaround times are crucial, the 4k this camera provides is not for you.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

Its not a 1DX MK II, but is so close you will never know it. AND its so MUCH better having two CF slots rather than the rediculously expensive CF Fast slot.

What a camera

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

Wanted this camera for its dual usage. Eases the packing and reduces weight when traveling. So far have only used it as a camera. And what a camera. Shot a bunch of very low light shots and it is just super. Low grain/noise at higher ISO. Just what the doctor ordered.

I needed a b-camera...

By 180

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

I am a Canon fan and prefer to shoot with little else. I needed a b-camera to shoot c-log along side my C300. Since I also needed another still camera the 1D C seemed the obvious choice. 4K is a bonus with this camera and one I will use often but I would have rather paid a bit more to have 10 bit 444 and XLR inputs. The rolling shutter is also a pain but I can work around it. The follow focus option not being available in C-Log is a downer so I'll probably never use it.

The fact that I was able to pick this camera up for sub-$5K is the main factor in moving forward. Otherwise I would have stuck to shooting stills with my Mark II and upgraded my A-cam to a C500 (I'll rent the C700). No matter how you slice it... this is still a DSLR, but it is a fine one and well worth the sub-$5K price point.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

The Canon 1DC is a camera that is future proof. I'm currently shooting a lot of wedding movies here in Seattle, WA. The versatility of this camera has allowed me to get the shot when needed. With it's ability to quickly switch from Full-frame to Super-35 mode with a quick switch using the Q-button it allows me to get a wide shot and a close up shot using the same lens. In the wedding cinema business it is crucial to record the moments before they are missed. So far I am using the 1080p features. I plan to get an external recorder/monitor for commercial production, which will allow me to shoot 4K internal and 1080p external ProRes.

I remember the T2i/7D days when the HDMI couldn't output full 1080p. Now, with cameras like the 5DIII and 1DC you can output full-HD. I would say even the 720p60 on the 1DC is sharp. It may sound strange to purchase a camera at the $8K price for only shooting 720p60 but if you think about it there are only two fullframe cameras from Canon that can record 720p60. On top of that, if data permits, the 1DC has 1080p60. The 1080p60 can cut well with the 4K (4096x2160).

After using this camera for cinema, I began to realize how great of a photo camera it is as well. The AI Servo for walking shots is spot on. I would have a wedding couple walking toward me and every photo is sharp with my 85mm at 1.8. Very quick tracking focus for photo!

I knew eventually I would get into photography, but now with the 1DC it has made it very easy. Using the new RT system, with the 600ex-rt speedlite I can easily take off-camera flash photography, and change the brightness from the st-e3-rt wireless trigger on top of my camera hotshoe.

I'm telling you this camera pays for itself. That's the best way to justify the price. Get out there and make awesome images. People will recognize. And you'll have more fun with this camera. It gets better every day I use it. I'm still discovering new ways to use this camera. I see myself using this camera 10 years from now.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

We bought this camera to create 4k footage for a patent pending software product, and to date have not been disappointed.

How it performs in a tropical salt water environment is yet to be seen. So far so good. We are cautiously optimistic, and plan to take it on many future trips if it does well next week in the caribbean.

We selected this particular camera because of its affordability (compared to cinema cameras like red), and also because we were satisfied with the quality of sample 4k footage that demonstrated its capabilities on YouTube, and the many reviews which suggested that it was one of the most durable and weatherproof products in it's class.

Be aware that many software media players have trouble smoothly playing the 4k movie files this camera creates, however transcoding the video using Final Cut Pro solves the problem, and is not an issue for us.

Also, be aware that the 60 frame per second 1080p video is somewhat disappointing, but the 1080p 30 fps is spectacular.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

I've used Canon since the FTB model in 1975, migrating through all its generations. THIS model is not, and was not, EVER intended to be a "VIDEO" camera. If you want to shoot video, get a C100 or C300 or C500, or a Sony F55 if you really need to step to the edge.

The EOS-1D is without a doubt the finest SLR "still" shot camera on the planet, which only has peers, not superiors -- at least in the 35mm sensor zone.

Admittedly, it is "convenient" to do video with this camera, where speed capture is NOT needed, because it will fail. It was NOT designed for that. What it is designed for, is what it is the best on the planet at.

Yes, I am bias. But once you get to the 99.99% zone of SLR still photography, the ONLY competitors to this camera will be chosen based on the bias of their followers too. For high frame rate action shooting, or breathtaking long shots to macro, all taken with lenses of similar caliber as this piece of art deserves, this is the big leagues. The rest is just personal opinions.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

This to me is the ideal camera. Beautiful stills and great video. The S35 1080 mode creates great HD video. Best that I have ever seen in this form factor. The 4k is stunning. Just don't record in c log under ISO 400 though. Editing the 4k motion jpg is pretty straightforward if you are a Mac user with fcpx. Fcpx cb transcode the motion JPEG to prores pretty quickly and this prores file plays easily even in QuickTime. Overall great camera for my needs.

A 4K Workhorse even in competitive world

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

We bought the 1DC when it first came out and, while choking on the price, it has proven to be rock solid -- never letting us down. Superb image quality and tons of flexibility. All the new cameras coming along have great 4K images and smaller price tags...but each comes with a caveat, some compromise, that makes me glad I have the 1DC. Frustrating how flavor of the month cameras can overshadow a real professional tool. We love the 1DC.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

Before purchasing the 1DC I read a ton of reviews. Some loved it, and others loathed it. As is often the case, what makes a great camera (or any product for that matter) is in the eyes of the beholder. For me, somebody that enjoys video and photography, this is a fantastic camera. You get the best of Canon's DSLR lineup with 4K and Canon Log.

Are there aspects of the camera that could be better? Sure. I mean who doesn't want 5K RAW with 16 Stops of Dynamic Range recording on CF with XLR inputs and built in ND filters. More seriously, the lack of zebras, peaking, and some other simple video features is a little disappointing. But, there is no perfect camera, there are always trade offs and this camera delivers a lot in a small package. That being said, this is a great camera for those who need/want to take photos and video.

I rented the camera before buying and had to have it. I have been really enjoying it over the past month. I had been thinking about upgrading to a 1DX for months. After the C100 upgrade I had thought about picking up one of those. The 1DC just made a lot more sense.

I would highly recommend this camera to anybody looking to shoot photos and video.

I used this camera for filming, it's a very good camera easy to use but the only thing that i didn't like is the 4GB file limit.
It's enough when you shoot in HD but when you shoot in 4K that means 60sec for each clip then it will be split to 2 files, so it's hard to take long interviews in 4K.
That's why i'm giving this camera 3 stars.

I use this for all types of shooting, weddings, action sports, and anything else that comes my way. I only bought it for the 4k, that has been amazing, I do wish it had a bit more than just 8 bit which makes color grading skin a bit more difficult. Other than that, the camera performs just like all my other DSLR's and was everything I expected it to be. Overall I love this camera for the 4K the best part is recording to CF cards and having a light compact DSLR.
Cons for me are again just wishing there was a bit more bits from the 4K. 10 or 12 bit would be awesome.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):

Video/photography . Having the Mark III and the 1 DX I was a bit skeptical about the 1 DC. The technology promised seemed a bit over board. I borrowed this camera from a friend and shot 2 weeks in France. Came back and used photo shop cs6 for editing and was amazed! Takes beautiful still shots and easily switches back and forth to video mode. This camera is the future of photography .... If you've got the money BUY it. After my 2 week trip with the borrowed 1 DC I immediately purchased it after getting home. You won't be sorry.

Like the 5d mkii, this is the technology the film industry doesn't want to exist!
