Considering the price, this lens is a real gem in my opinion. This is the second example of this 14 mm w/a lens from the Korean producer, the previous one was sold under the Rokinon brand, yet those lenses are identical. Both my lenses have been used on full frame DSLR cameras, the 5D MkII an now 5D MkIII, and my evaluation is purely based on its properties when used on FF cameras. Those who like w/a lenses and the effect they can give must like this lens. One has to be aware that this lens does not autofocus, nor does it communicate with the camera in any other way. Both focusing and setting the aperture have to be done manually, the latter by turning an aperture setting ring on the lens.. The most obvious camera setting is thus AV, and the camera will set the correct exposure according to the aperture setting. Everything is manual, and for the inexperienced, this can bebe a problem. However, getting everything in focus when shooting landscape in bright light is almost a no brainer; opting for f/11 and a focus distance of 2 meters brings everything in focus from 0,8 meters to infinity. Focusing on near subjects with the lens wide open can be tricky through the viewfinder, and is best done using Live view, if the camera has got that option. This lens is sharp from corner to corner, and C/A is no more apparent than on more expensive lenses. W/A or perspective distortion is as should be expected with a lens that wide. A "trademark" for this lens is a rather nasty phenomenon, "moustache distortion", not so much a problem in landscape photography, but a real party spoiler when shooting buildings and structures. This effect can be overcome when processing raw files in PS or LR by using a special lens correction profile for this lens. The profile does not work for cameras with APC sensors.Color rendition is generally good, the lens has its own character in this respect, and it takes a bit of practice in PPS to get the most out of it.Having gone through the initial learning curve, this lens is a real joy to use, and opens some exciting opportunities for creative photography. It will deliver fine results when in hands of a photographer that really knows how to work with w/a lenses, and who can master the old trade of operating a fully manual lens.

This lens gives me a nice sharp image on my canon 6D but in all my images the exif data shows as f0. This means that later on when reviewing my images I'll never know what my aperture was. When using a flash with this lens it fires at full bore all the time in E-TTL so I have to go manual all the time. There is no little green dot to tell me my focus is on target. Unless you can see like a hawk focusing is going to be a challenge. The sharpness and the lens build is worth the price I paid. All the extra work to get a sharp image may not be worth it .

I become to live this lens. At first I was unsure about buying a manual lens because I often miss with manual focusing. But with 14mm almost everything gets in focus, especially when shooting landscapes and closing the aperture down. The lens is sharp indeed.
Lightroom version that I use has a ready preset which fixes some of its distortions and vignetting.

This lens is incredible for the price. It is especially great when taking landscape photos as well as astrophotography. It also functions as a great lens for video if you are interested in blogging or anything like that. I would recommend this lens to almost any amateur photographer or any photographer who wants a great lens for a phenomenal price.

bought it solely for the purpose of using it on a 1.74 cropped mark 4 to shoot 4K. That 14mm translates roughly to a 24mm

Comments about Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

Great lens! It feels relatively sturdy and its front element is beautiful. It is all manual focus but man, is it sharp! It offers excellent image quality for the money and I highly recommend it for people on a budget for a super wide angle prime lens. Coma performance is as good as similar lenses costing thousands more.

Comments about Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I recently purchased this lens and only have used it a few times. The 1st thing that catches your attention right off is the amazing depth of field, even without trying! Just putting it on f8 and guessing the distance produced surprising results. I suggest reading or watching videos on how to use an ultra-wide angle lens as it acts very differently from a normal lens. I keep looking for more ways to use it, and have a lot to learn about it's capabilities. Manual focus does take some getting used to, but overall great buy!

Great lens for a really GREAT price!

Comments about Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

WOW!! Love the price, REALLY love the lens! I have wanted a 14mm, but the more known brands are untouchable for me right now, and I'm just getting into night sky photography (which I haven't had a chance to use it for that yet) and didn't want to break the bank on an ultra wide-angle lens, so this fits the bill! I have used it for landscape, and can't find a thing wrong with it! LOVE!!!

Thoroughly excellent wide angle lens for many camera bodies

Comments about Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I purchased the lens for astrophotography, but it does landscapes very well also. Knowing that it is a manual focus lens I prepared to test the focus and tape [lock] the focus in place for night photography. I set the lens on f/2.8 [has f/22-f/2.8 capability] and it already had sharp focus. It is sharp both at the edges of the frame as well as the center. Disadvantage for me: it is made of heavy Korean steel, but on the flip side it seems indestructible and who cares since it sits on a tripod for night photography. You can choose the same lens with a different mount for a variety of cameras. both APS-C and full frame. Fisheye + hood

Comments about Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I bought this lens for using it in astrophotography, i.e. northern lights (aurora borealis) and the milky way. So far it has worked very well in my APS-C canon 700D (Rebel 5i). It has been also great in landscape photography although focusing it is a little bit tricky. Just follow the advice in other comment: f/11 and focusing in 2m with the lens ring. Unfortunately I lost the front cap very quickly (my fault) and it seems there is no replacement. I have also used it in interiors (cathedrals) and it has worked well except for creating panoramas and the tricky focus. It seems it is the wrong usage for that kind of lenses

Comments about Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I got this lens for night photography. With f/2.8 as widest aperture, this lens provides clean image and a very good results.
As for day light photography, with higher aperture values of the model in my possession, a significant high noise is present, especially as the aperture went higher. At f/22 it was impossible to use.

Feels sturdy, well put together. I use it for landscapes, mostly, so distortion is not a huge issue. Image color and sharpness are great (I use live view to help with focusing). Great lens for the money, and will be playing with it, especially for night shots.

Tack Sharp Infinity!

Comments about Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

What an amazing lens at a budget price.  This is my first prime lens and the reviews I saw made me think it would be perfect for astrophotography and storm photography since both end up requiring settings that result in focusing at infinity.

It turns out that I can pretty much forget the manual focus almost entirely when out chasing or during night photography.  I simply keep it at infinity and the image is spot on.  The quality of the the color separation and near zero chromatic aberration makes this a terrific lens.  I just look for excuses to use it now.
