A great choice at a great price after a long search

Comments about Oben AC-1331 Aluminum Tripod with BA-108 Ball Head:

Took me way too long to find a new tripod and I think the reason is no one tripod can do it all. I wanted something lightweight enough to travel, yet sturdy enough to stand very still for a long exposure, tall enough to not be crouching too much, yet packable.

For the money, the Oben was hard to beat. Yes, it is B&H's captive brand, but the materials seem sturdy though light, the ball head was fine for my needs (about 8 lbs capacity accommodates my Olympus EM - D series camera with any lens I'm likely to use, and it has several features the higher priced brands seemed to exclude on their "lower" tier models. The Oben included several bubble levels, a hanger hook for added stability, and a padded carrying case. I chose the three leg piece extension model and everything seems to work smoothly. The ball head is metal, operates smoothy, doesn't seem to have any "give" after tightening, set-up is quick and the camera seems quite secure on the quick release head. It also has a relatively long warranty so I'm not too concerned about longevity especially for the price point. I don't see any real weak spots from a materials standpoint.

Only thing I didn't like was that the head plate contains a spring loaded pin that you normally would see used perhaps with a camcorder where it inserts into a second hole on the camera bottom. My DSLR doesn't have a second cavity for it, so I removed it from the tripod plate rather than have it simply abrading the bottom of my camera. No big deal, but I don't see those pins on too many of the other tripod brands.

I'm sure there are much better tripods out there for much more serious photographers. The very best for travel (long hikes, carry-on luggage, etc.) are more compact and the best for long exposures in bad conditions are likely much heavier and spiked. But as a compromise for both those purposes, I'm quite pleased with this choice.

Comments about Oben AC-1331 Aluminum Tripod with BA-108 Ball Head:

The AC-1331 3-Section Aluminum Tripod with BA-108 Ball Head from Oben is a sturdy well made tripod.
My camera with the biggest lens weighs about three pounds and it doesn't budge when I lock it down. Great tripod for the price.

Comments about Oben AC-1331 Aluminum Tripod with BA-108 Ball Head:

The tripod is light and easy to carry but seems very sturdy. I had a bit of trouble with the quick release on the head but discovered it was because I was using a plate on the bottom of my camera the hold both the tripod quick release head an my camera strap. It made for a very tight fit. Now I take the camera strap off and the quick release works just fine, I have a Nikon D7000 with a fairly heavy zoom lens and often use an external flash. The tripod holds the entire unit very securely. I'm very pleased with the tripod--especially for the price.

Tripod is lightweight, well balanced and sturdy. The height of the tripod is very good too. I carried the tripod on mountain hikes in the Cascades with no problem and found the setup to fast. It also held up to the winds

Comments about Oben AC-1331 Aluminum Tripod with BA-108 Ball Head:

After buying a new DSLR I figured it was time for an upgrade in the tripod department. After doing some research I decided to go with the Oben AC-1331 with the BA-108 head. I have to say that so far I've been Impressed with it. When it is set up it is completely rigid and there is no play in any of the leg joints. The ball head is smooth and progressive with the tension adjustment. Snug it down lightly and you can position the camera where you want it and then lock it down. The materials the tripod are made from are of a good quality. The only possible concern long term are the lever locks for controlling the leg extensions are plastic but having said that they appear to be solid enough. All in all this seems to be a quality product and I would buy from Oben again.
