Excellent starter/backup tripod

Comments about Oben AC-2341L 3-Section Aluminum Lateral Tripod Legs:

Basically this is almost the same as the Vanguard Alta Pro 263/264

Depending on your past gear use/experience, this could be a great starter tripod, or a good, inexpensive backup..
If you don't need to support super tele lenses (this only has 11 lb load capacity) and or won't shoot in extreme conditions this will do a good job, without breaking the bank. That said if you see those larger lenses or heavier gear in your future go for a sturdier one. Always better to invest in quality and you won't need to buy things 2x.

I got it for backup, wanted something light and adjustable.  Put an Axler QRA-501S and a ballhead on it and it's ready.
Comes with a quality bag, that is better than the ones came with my prev tripods, even the more expensive legs.. You can even squeeze an umbrella in it. Allen keys are included (they come with a little snap on holder) so you can adjust the legs if needed.
The feet are the same as the Vanguard, it's great if you need it on any terrain, grass, rocks, sand or hardwood floor no problem. No need to replace anything just screw the rubber feet up or down.

The issues: The legs have 2 warmers should be 3, but that can be fixed.
What I really don't like is the adjustable flip locks. It's a messed up design.
Maybe Oben did it because it's cheaper than the way Vanguard solved it, but that is a closed system.
The Vanguard legs are easy to adjust with a push of a button. This is OPEN, for any debris, SAND to get in.
If you're shooting on/near the beach the wind eventually will blow stuff in..
Also every time I touch it and try to adjust it I get GREASE on my hand. Not ok Oben!
The flip locks won't come back on their own. You have to push them back, at least that's how they work on mine now. Don't know if time will make a diff..
The locks on the column are not firm enough, had to tighten them with some force to prevent movement.
On my other tripods a half turn would do that...

Cut My Work Flow In Half - Well Built And Worthwhile!

Comments about Oben AC-2341L 3-Section Aluminum Lateral Tripod Legs:

I have been doing some hobbyist-level product photography for my Ebay business, and need to shoot items from many angles. I bought a lateral tripod arm that I was quite happy with, but changing set-ups to mount it was interfering with my workflow in a few "time is money" situations. I was quite satisfied with my Oben AC-1321 tripod, and after some discussion with B&H's excellent sales staff, I opted to step up to this model. What a BIG difference this tripod has made in my work! It has made my life MUCH easier due to its smaller footprint, greater stability and unprecedented maneuverability. Not only has my down-time between set-up angles been reduced to almost nil, but this infinitely adjustable tripod takes up far less room in my work space. It is so versatile and easily configured that I seldom even have to un-mount the camera while going from a vertical to horizontal perspective. It is rock solid, and even with a Nikon D7100 and a heavy telescopic lens fully extended in the lateral position, I have not yet needed to attach a counterweight for balance - it has stayed perfectly stable. The legs can be securely locked in any position with the handy allen wrenches, which come in a holder that clips to the legs for easy any-time access. The center post can be inverted for low-level shooting in almost no time at all, and the unit also has feet that can retract to pointed metal tips, to further secure its position for outdoor shooting. Like all of Oben's tripods, it comes with a useful, handsomely streamlined carrying case with a strap and zippered interior pocket. A great value, well-built and thought-out. I am glad I bought it, and recommend it highly to any amateur, hobbyist or professional.

Comments about Oben AC-2341L 3-Section Aluminum Lateral Tripod Legs:

Beware of first use stiffness, but after awhile of using it rgularly, it unstiffens, and becomes quite easy to flex into the position you want. I thought the knobs were confusingly placed, and it took awhile to get used to which was which. The lateral arm is a God send, once you use it, positioning and fine-tuning framing becomes a breeze. A very good investment for a sturdy, and very flexable tripod.

This is a great tripod for photo or video work and with the lateral head it gives you the power to capture some slick angles that you can't with most tripods.

Comments about Oben AC-2341L 3-Section Aluminum Lateral Tripod Legs:

Great tripod that is very sturdy. The lateral arm is a square tube so it is very solid and can't swivel. I was able to fully extend the center column at 90 degrees with my 3 pound camera and ball mount attached without the tripod tipping over but it wouldn't take much more weight to tip it (just don't extend the arm all the way).

The lateral center support/arm gives you great flexibility to do almost anything. The only drawback is the arm is not 2 pieces like the normal AC-2341 so when the legs are extended out to near ground level, you still have this 16 inch arm sticking up. Of course the arm could be extended out laterally but it would be nice to have both options available for use.

There is a loop on the tripod base for adding extra weight if needed. It would also be nice to have one on the center column/arm so one could add counterweight when the arm is fully extended laterally with a heavy camera on it.

I was really impressed when I opened the carrying bag and seen a small zippered pouch for the shoulder straps. I rarely use a shoulder strap but I like knowing I have one, it's even better knowing it is always with the bag. The entire bag is very well made.
